Journal 22/4
Another new earth student Kaia Marzipan
She seems to be sincere, although she doesn't talk much. She didn't have any armor, and her shorts were far too short. I gave her some long leather armor and a helmet. She seemed much more protected that way. I am glad she put it on without too much fuss, although I did have to chase her around a bit.
I saw a bunch of students bickering in the middle fountain today, and so Neil and I arranged a bonfire for them to sit around and introduce themselves. Myka Willowflame was difficult, Kaia was her usual slow ditzy self, Ammandon Hollingberry was teased a little about his name, Ardriane Salvatore, a polite young lady, introduced herself. Jinx Rose Opinius seemed to be offended easily at my lack of attention (well I WAS cooking sausages at the time!) and Nathan was enthusiastic to introduce himself.
After this was done, and marshmallows had been eaten, I took them to the sparring room, amidst many ooh's and aah's. Once they had all gone to their respective corners of the room, I called out some students to spar and show me their skills.
First up was Hollingberry and Opinius. Hollingberry seemed to have an argument with a breeze, and Jinx used flaming cards, which was quite creative, but also tried to use her nails, which was less than noble. Next was Willowflame versus Miss Kyung Mi Park. Kyung seemed very annoyed at the beginning of the battle, having just arrived and not knowing what was going on. However, after a few seconds of watching her dodge fireballs, it became obvious she was quite skilled. However, she did not move from her sitting position on the floor, which I find very odd for an air type. Willowflame tried to use fireballs creatively, but there is only so much you can do with fireballs. I told both girls go increase their control and creative use of their element. By this time, Most students were complaining that they had no teacher, and wanted pointers. I couldnt help them, as I dont know the first thing about controlling wind or fire- they're much too fickle for me. Neil was there, but he doesn't like instructing students, so he just ignored them.
Last up we had Sakura versus Retaw. Retaw got in an argument with Neil, which I scolded him for, and attatched weights to his wrists. Sakura was in a massive ballgown and seemed to have a lot of trouble even conjuring a spark. She seems like a very damp personality, not much of a spark at all. Retaw decided to drop his hands right down to the ground, and try to perform techniques upside down. The boy did a headspin! The water which is usually sticking to him whirled off and hit the poor girl he was versing, tearing her highly impractical dress.
She ran off, and Nathan promptly fainted. I took him to the infirmary as he was vomiting and I worried there was something wrong with him other than exhaustion, but apparently not. Also, Vermilliam wasn't in. And wouldn't respond to his radio. The infuriating man probably dismantled it! I issued them to all the staff everyone to keep in contact!!
Regardless, I sent all the students off to bed after this event.
Next morning I get an urgent letter from Miss Marzipan, saying that someone down in the water area was hurt. When I turn up, I find Hollingberry, Fort, Willowflame and Marzipan all huddled around Retaw, who was squirming in pain. I couldn't observe the problem, so I sunk him in a small amount of sand to hold him, and demanded answers. After pissfarting around for a while, I got the truth- Nathan Retaw had insulted Myka WIllowflame on her dress sense, and so she had thrown a fireball at his face, badly burning it. Although the boy managed to heal his facial wounds, his eyes had been too badly damaged to heal. He is now permanently BLIND. I issued Hollingberry and Fort with essays to write on the incident (because their general disregard for their fellow students welfare was quite unsettling- I have recieved one from Hollingberry already) and thanked miss Marzipan for her quick and appropriate action. I shall have to think of a reward for her. Perhaps an upgrade in armor?
I then guided Retaw and Willowflame to the headmasters office and sat them down, giving them a severe talking to. I had a right mind to expel Miss Willowflame, as she still was having snarky and insolent reactions to my lecture, and did not seem to care that she had potentially ruined this young boys life. I called in Tobius. He actually got the little brats respect, and we deliberated on a punishment. Strangely enough, Nathan believed her owed Myka money and a house for insulting her. I informed him this was completely wrong, and the most he owed was a sincere apology, which he gave easily. The punishment for Myka was decided as being to help her victim around school for the rest of the year, but this did not seem to phase her. Neil then contacted me via radio, having heard the news, and informed me that to prevent any further flame incidents from happening, she should be monitored and face severe conquences if she did it again. Then came the idea of the explosive bracelet.
I was truthfully all for it. Everyone has to learn control somehow, and if you cant, you are a danger to all those around you. It would be much more efficient if lack of control only blew up one person, and that person was yourself. However, Tobius wasn't keen on blowing up a student, and so this idea was substituted for an electric shock bracelet which would be activated if she used any of the elemental power at all. Teachers can obviously disable this bracelet, for classes and whatnot. Neil came in and offered me a muffin, then gave Myka another talking to. She had been taking a lesson from him very recently, and he was disappointed in her behavior and appalled at her lack of regret almost as much as I was.
After this meeting I quickly ordered the bracelet and attatched it to Miss Willowflame, and I bought the poor dear Master Retaw a blind mans cane. I hope that he uses it and can find his way around accurately when Miss Willowflame isn't around to help him.
So, after a long day and a half, I have another large pile of paperwork to do. Ugh. I need to hire someone to do this one day. I'd rather be digging a grave hole.
