Chapter 1:

Hi. My name is Adarina. I know that was a horrible way to start my story, and my English teacher would probably scold me for it. But she’s dead now. So its fine. Like I was saying, my name is Adarina Kole. My two best friends, who would follow me into the depths of Hell, are Miranda Schike, and Tammy. Tammy has always been extremely mysterious to me. Like she was hiding a secret from the world. Whether it be something small, or make a huge difference, I didn’t want to ask.
Today in 7th period Theatre Arts, we were all assigned a group together. We three were extremely surprised, because our teacher hates us being together. We never get our scripts memorized on time. No matter how hard we try. Probably because we are always off task and talking about our day, and if we have plans that weekend. Our whole play was about moral lessons. Miranda thought it was stupid. I think she said something like “Dude, this is so stupid. Nobody cares about this morality s**t” I don’t remember her exact words. For that time seems like it was many years ago, and not just yesterday.

Chapter 2:

Ever since we started 9th grade, after school, Miranda, Tammy, and I hung out in the woods behind Yeager, our high school. At first, their parents hated when we went back there. They thought that since our school was really ghetto, there would be kidnappers in the woods. But over time they started to become more lenient of it.
Today was like any other day. That is until the whole world was turned upside down into the worst nightmare anyone could ever imagine. But I’ll get to that later. The woods was very pleasing to me. Every time we took a step, the bright yellow, orange, and green leaves would crunch under our feet. But even the vibrant colors couldn’t cheer up the vacant forest. There was not a single living thing in sight. The sky was grey, like it was about to start snowing.
“Do you guys think that every snow flake is different?” Tammy asked, as if she had just read my mind.
“Yes”
“No” Miranda and I replied at the same time.
“Yes.” Miranda repeated, “Then it wouldn’t be any fun if they all looked the same”
“Exactly!” Tammy agreed
“But with all the snow flakes that have fallen, don’t you think there was at least two that were the same?” I objected.
“Nope” Miranda said without hesitation. “Every single snowflake is different in some way. Just imagine that snowflakes are like people. About 358,000 people are born everyday, and not a single person is completely alike.”
“Twins?” I objected again.
“Even twins have the slightest difference in between them. So therefore, every human and snowflake is different.”
Miranda and Tammy were both very unrealistic people. They always thought of the most insane explanations for everything that happened.
“Don’t you agree?” Tammy asked me.
“Yea, I guess if you put it that way.” I still sort of disagree with their logic though. I just wanted silence so I could think to myself.
I had just now noticed how cold it was. I probably didn’t realize it until now because I lived in Maine my whole life and came to Texas about three years ago. I came down when I was twelve to live with my aunt, because both my parents had died in a building collapse.
The wind blew slightly. Sweeping the beautiful leaves around. The wind was barely blowing, but the leaves flew up to at least seven feet high. That seemed a little strange and I started to worry. But as I realized what I was doing I calmed myself for overreacting about the silly wind.
Then all of a sudden, Tammy let out a piercing scream at the top of her lungs, and my right leg suddenly went numb as I fell to the ground. Everything went black.

Chapter 3:

“Nice going Tammy! Look what you did!” Miranda yelled
“What! How is this my fault?” Tammy asked. Above me, I saw Tammy and Miranda arguing about something. Tammy had always acted cheerful no matter what, but it looked like she was about to start crying. She could lift anyone’s spirit with just her smile. She had such a gorgeous face. The way her dimples came in when she showed just the slightest smile. The way her wavy blonde hair lay around her perfectly beautiful face. Her icy blue eyes always caught my attention, but now they were so purple they were almost red. Whenever it seemed like she was about to cry, her eyes got the slightest reddish tint in them. I didn’t pay attention to it earlier. It didn’t really seem to matter at those times.
I moaned a little to get their attention. Then Tammy gasped and flew to the ground, giving me a hug. It didn’t really bother me like it would to most people, how she is always hugging me. She’s always been over protective of me. Miranda pushed her away really hard.
“Dude! Your going to break her leg!” Miranda said in a really irritated voice. I sat up. My ankle was covered in blood. I must have had a terrified look on my face, because Tammy did her little smiley thing she always did when I was crying about something. That was her special way to cheer me up when I was sad.
“Oh, um…well” Tammy stuttered, as if she didn’t necessarily know what to say. Miranda seemed angry with her and gave her a really strange look.
“We were walking, and this huge scorpion looking thing came up behind you and bit your ankle. The poison knocked you out, but its nothing serious. If you can walk there is a river about a mile further into the woods where you can wash your ankle. We didn’t want to take you while you were still asleep because if we woke you up you would most likely die. There is a part of the poison that knocked you out. I heard that if you are conscious after you get bit there is a 97% chance it would be lethal. Which is why we didn’t wake you up. Your immune system is strong. Be thankful. You could be dead right now.”
Tammy seemed relieved.
“Yea, what she said” Tammy muttered
“Oh” Is all that I could say.
Miranda suggested that we should go now to get me cleaned up. I got up and took about three steps. Then I fell again. Tammy tried to catch me, but I was too heavy. She fell to the ground with me.
I have always felt bad for Tammy. She has always tried to help me with all of my problems, but I don’t help her with any of hers. I then promised myself that the next time something bad happened to her I would help make it better. No matter what.

Chapter 4:

Miranda was so strong. That is what I admired most about her. She carried me most of the way.
I remember always telling her to join the army. She didn’t want to though. She said that girls in the army get raped a lot. She is always worrying about stuff like that. So it doesn’t really surprise me.
I don’t know if they switched off with carrying me or not, because I was still in a daze. I just remember thinking about Miranda and Tammy.
Miranda is so strict about everything I do. She seems very disciplined,. Though at times she can be really immature. I like that side of her. She seems so carefree and happy. Unlike the times that she is bullied at school. People call her emo, I don’t know why though. She is tall and has extremely black hair, pale and very skinny. I try to tell her to not let them get to her. Then she looks at me with her beautiful green eyes and says she’s fine. She is a horrible liar.
On the other hand, Tammy is just unusual. She tries her hardest to protect me, but clearly as week and defenseless as she is, that doesn’t even seem logical. She is always talking about God and the Devil. At times I think to myself if she might actually be my guardian angel. But as realistic as I am, I just laugh at myself for even wondering about something so…out there. I mean, it’s noteven possible for her to truly be something like that. Right?

Chapter 5:

After I gained consciousness we were all at the river. It was shallower than I expected. I could easily see the bottom. It was probably a little less than a foot deep. I could see the red, tan, and orange pebbles that blanketed the floor of the river. It was yet another peaceful sight in the lonely forest.
I put my foot in the water. The water was freezing cold. Tammy kept throwing pebbles at the fish that swam close to my injured ankle. At first I thought she was just trying to entertain herself by watching them swim away quickly in fright, but she looked very concentrated on what ever she was doing. I felt bad for the fish. Even thought she was scaring them more then hurting them.
I turned around to find Miranda carving something into a tree with the pocket knife I got her for her birthday a few years ago. The handle was black with neon paint splatters on it. She always talked about wanting her room painted that color. I saw it at a store in Mexico when I was on a trip with Tammy to Mexico.
