A God's Love. A Vampire's Feelings.
A continuing fan fiction written by me, about the original characters of Nyx and Annabelle and their finding of romance with Meili and Louie.
Chapter 5
When I went to save Gino, I wasn’t entirely sure that I would be pulling through it as cleanly as I had. The thing that I had definitely not expected was to wake up in a hospital either, though apparently it was rather good thing that I had been taken there. After waking up, I don’t even remember how many doctors were coming in and out and talking to me about what happened. Then there were the reporters that were trying to get it all figured out. It was a good thing the doctors were around to show them the way out of my room so that I could recover my strength before I was forced to answer the questions that the public had. It took a few days for things to calm down enough for nurses to actually be the majority of people coming into my room.

During all the days that I was there, I was waiting for Nyx to show up. I expected she was the one who found me and managed to get me here. I would have to find a better way to thank her for it than just the lunches we had been going to. I still needed to figure out a lot of things about her. She was really good at changing topics on me and giving only slight bits of information. It was odd and unpredictable most of the time, but I liked the challenge. Most of the time, she would get me talking about the other gods and goddesses of Gaia and any stories I knew of them. On the occasion she would have me tell my own story, which made me feel a bit weird but the looks that I would get during some of them from her were more than enough to make me feel comfortable.

When the doctor came in to take out the stitches, the ones that could be removed, I felt a bit uncomfortable. I was still in the hospital gown and based on what the nurse had told me, the only clothes that they had for me to wear out covered only the lower half of my body. Walking around the streets shirtless in Dref Dur would not do me any good, especially with the way most girls reacted around me already. The doctor had me pull down the gown so he could get to the stitches. As he began to remove them, he let out a whistle. “She managed to do them so it wouldn’t leave a scar, impressive.” “What do you mean she? Didn’t you put the stitches in?” I asked as I remained still so as not suddenly have the need for more stitches. “No, the girl who had found you was the one who did the stitches,” the Doctor said.

“What was her name?” I asked, not believing it could have been Nyx. I mean, if she was capable of doing something like this I was pretty sure I would have been able to pick that up or found out somehow without her having to do it on me… right? “I never caught it,” the Doctor said as he continued to take out the many, many stitches it had taken to put my chest back together. “Can you describe her to me?” The doctor seemed a little hesitant for a moment and then he spoke up, “She’s five-three or five-four, black hair, blue eyes, a scar over her right eye-“ “Nyx…” I sighed softly. “Has she been back here?” “No, she was only here for a little while after she brought you in, she had her friend with her. They left before you woke up.”

This was more confusing to me than anything else the doctor had said. Why would Nyx not still be here if she had gone through the trouble of saving me? I began to think about it and then it hit me. Of all the times we hung out, there was a reason that she didn’t let me know too much about her. She thought I was only hanging around because I had saved her. She knew I didn’t want any kind of payment, but she figured that I was still waiting for something to happen or just filling some time with her, at least as far as I could figure. “So how long exactly until I can leave here?” I asked as I tried to sound patient and polite.

“Just as long as it takes me to finish getting these stitches out of you and for you to sign a form,” The doctor said. I nodded and looked towards the nurse, “Do you think you could go and get me the forms while he is working on this please?” The nurse nodded politely before she went off to get the forms. “You are going to want to be careful still with a few things that you do for a couple more days before we can be sure that the skin over the wound is completely healed. No vigorous exercise, no games, no lifting anything. I was going to give you a prescription for a cream that would help the scars, but since you don’t have any, I won’t need to do that.” I nodded in acknowledgement and knew that the press would probably bombard me on my way out of the hospital. “Is there a way that I can leave the hospital without going out the front doors straight towards the press?”

“The best way for that would be to head out one of the side entrances. They cover the back too for the ones that they know are going to try avoiding them.” I let out a sigh and really began to hate the fact that the news decided to cover me so much when other news stories were less interesting. The nurse came back in with the forms just as the doctor finished pulling out the last of the stitches. I signed the forms and handed them back as another nurse handed me the clothes that they did have for me. I headed to the bathroom and changed into my clothes and was glad that the hospital had managed to wash it otherwise, I didn’t want to try and imagine what they would smell like right about now.

I left the hospital and managed to avoid the paparazzi well enough to get a good distance away before they were informed that I had always been discharged and left the hospital. The first place I headed was home. I needed to get something to cover me before I was bombarded. Normally, it wouldn’t have taken me too long to get there, but since I had to take more precautions than normal to ensure that I would not be attacked by women, it took about twice as long. Once I was finally fully dressed, I headed over to Nyx’s place. It was the first and most likely place that she would and if she weren’t there then Annabelle would be and I could ask her where I could her.

When I arrived there, something seemed to be missing. It seemed to quiet to be her place, but then again, I could just be paranoid. I opened the fence and walked up to the door. I knocked and waited for someone to answer but there was no answer and no sound of anyone. I rang the doorbell just in case, and waited. There was still no answer, so this time I looked in the through the window. The place was empty, emptier than it had been all the times that I had walked with Nyx back here. Something was definitely up. I figured the neighbors would be the best to ask since most people watched their neighbors did for a variety of reasons and not all of them were good. I just hoped the one I headed to wasn’t some kind of peeping tom or something.

This time I got an answer from a guy around their age. “I don’t mean to bother you, but I was wondering if you knew where your neighbors, Nyx and Annabelle are?” The dude seemed concerned for a second before he recognized me and relaxed. “They headed back to Barton the night of your accident. They’ve been gone for the close to the week that you have been in the hospital.” “Thanks,” I said and walked back down and headed to my place. I knew Nyx had been planning on heading back to Barton, but the fact that she had left so soon and on that day? It didn’t make much sense to me. I mean I could understand why she would leave and the reasons she would think of, but I didn’t get even so much as a goodbye from her.

The only thing I was sure of was that I was going after her to find her in Barton. At the same time, I knew I needed to think about a few things before I could go off and find her. I needed to set some things straight in my own head and figure where I wanted things to go between us. I would have to be honest with myself. Before I could head back to my place and do that, I needed to find someone who was willing to give me a ride to Barton as soon as they could. At least if I didn’t have much time until they left I would have the trip there to think about the things too. I headed towards the docks and began to think of everything that just might be about to change.

------------------------------------Meanwhile----------------------------------------

Walking home after changing after having to talk to a variety of people for hours about why it is they should hire me was one of the few things I happy for. I would normally leave my car outside of the place I had chosen to change in, but this time I had decided it would be smarter for me just to walk. It would let me clear my head a bit and reflect a bit on everything that had gone on through all the various meetings before putting it out of my mind for the next couple of days. As I tried to focus on it all though, other things kept coming to mind that had no relevance. By the time I made it to the house, I was just glad that I couldn’t hear the music outside. Sometimes band practice got so loud that the entire neighborhood could hear and then the neighbors would get mad and call the cops.

“You know, I am glad that I don’t have to do this again for another couple of days. My head seems too clouded to focus,” I said as I walked in, able to hear myself, which most likely meant that the band was either between songs or taking a quick break. I walked a bit further in and towards where I presumed the band was, in the garage. As I turned into the living room they were all relaxing there. “Well, at least your day hasn’t been as bad as it could have,” Annabelle said before she picked up a water bottle to take a sip. I shrugged my shoulders. “Tell us you at least missed us some?” Damon said as he caught sight of me. I laughed, “Of course Damon, how could I not miss you all? In fact, I was looking forward to walking into a house full of music, but I guess I had some bad timing.”

“Oh don’t worry, we’ll be back to playing in a few minutes,” Annabelle said. “Want some water?” “Sure toss it here,” I said, and a few seconds later I caught the bottle as she threw it towards me. “Would you mind terribly if I watched whatever remains of your rehearsal? After all, it has been so long since I have listened to Ophelia’s Revenge,” I added as I began to open the bottle for a sip. Annabelle was about to answer, when Roux jumped in. “Why not? We could use someone who knows the songs and can tell us if we can play them better than before.” “We could also use someone that agrees that Roux is off beat,” Seiraku said, speaking up for the first time. “Or someone to tell Seiraku that he is the one that is off,” I heard Roux mutter.

I just laughed softly, “I will give my opinion gladly for whatever is going on. If I can so humbly request that you perform Angel’s Cry first though, it would be gladly appreciated.” Annabelle smiled, “We actually haven’t practiced that one yet, so it is perfectly fine. It also helps that you know that song like the back of your hand since you obsess over it so much.” The band joined in the laughter this time as we all headed to the garage of the larger house, where the band always practiced. “We haven’t had any complaints from the neighbors have we?” I asked as I moved a stool from the side of the garage to in front of the set up that the band had. “No, we aren’t using turning the amps up as loud as normal since we didn’t warn the neighbors about band practice.”

“Smart,” I said as I took my seat and everyone took their positions. Roux winked at me as he sat down on his shorter stool and I caught a look from Seiraku both as he had seen the wink and from my reaction to the wink. I knew the song was about to get really interesting as well as practice. I looked towards Annabelle and as Roux started the countdown and the beginning of the song mouthed, “I’m sorry for what’s about to happen.” I knew that sometimes Roux and Seiraku could get competitive with each other but the last thing that I would ever expect is for them to get competitive over me. Now I was about to see just how that would end up. Judging by the look that Annabelle had on her face, I didn’t think she understood all of what I was trying to say or got something else entirely.

Before I could attempt again, Annabelle began to sing and I was tapping my foot to the beat, looking between Seiraku and Roux. I loved the sounds of both of the instruments, especially with the kind of music the band played. As I watched the band and listened to the music I noticed Roux and Seiraku both try to show up the other with not only their playing of the song but with their showmanship. I only hoped that it wouldn’t end with either of them forgetting that I was the only audience member and trying something stupid, like stage diving. This song would probably be one of the best for both to try and impress as there were parts that written with the intent of showcasing their instruments.

As their individual solos came, I turned to them and watched as they pulled some of their typical tricks and then as they pulled some that I had never seen from either of them. It was really impressive especially with how they would compete with each other to keep my attention when the attention wasn’t solely focus on them. I could tell that Annabelle was noticing though as I saw her look at her band mates through the corner of her eyes or when she could actually just turn to watch them. I think it had hit her just about then what had happened as she looked at me and seemingly mouthed, “Boys.” I only quietly laughed for a moment before focusing on the song again.

When the song ended, I just clapped and before either of the boys could speak up, Annabelle looked at me and said, “So what do you think?” I mockingly seemed pensive for a moment as if considering whether or not they actually had messed up on anything. “Hmm…. To be honest… I think…. I think that Ophelia’s Revenge is really starting to sound better than ever. The showmanship is really getting interesting too,” I said finally with a bit of a chuckle. Damon chimed in, “Well, it’s because you’re here that these two decide to show off so much.” “Hey, there are plenty of girls at your gigs, they should always act like that a show,” I said. Damon nodded, “True enough.” “So what do you want to hear next?” Roux asked. “How about Luname’s Lullaby?”

The band looked at each other and nodded. Roux started the countdown and the song began. The rest of band practice was pretty similar to the first song although Seiraku and Roux were both obviously getting tired towards the end from all the exertion of showing off. When band practice was over, I decided to make dinner for the band since I had been resting enough while they were practicing. It was going to be a simple enough meal. I was making some pork chops and one of my many famous pasta salads. While I was making it, Roux came into the kitchen to grab himself something to drink from the fridge.

I had been humming Angel’s Cry and was focused on the pasta salad when he had decided to walk in. I really hadn’t even noticed until he walked up next to me. “It’s good to know our songs can get stuck in someone’s head,” he said. I nearly hit the roof but then turned and shoved him. “Don’t do that! I could have spilled pasta everywhere and you would have to wait longer for dinner,” I said. He just laughed, “Noted. I’m already hungry enough.” I just laughed and went back to mixing the salad. “You did really good at practice today. I haven’t seen you play that well for a while. You seemed to really be getting into the music again,” I said. He just nodded, “I had been going through a few things but I’ve gotten through it now and can completely focus on the music.”

“That’s great. So when are we ever going to start the drum lessons you promised?” I asked with a smile and soft elbow to his side. He just laughed, “Why not Friday?” I took a second to figure out if I actually had anything to do on Friday and smiled. “Friday is good. It is actually the only day I don’t have anything to do.” “Friday it is then. Do you want make a whole day for the lesson or what?” I looked at him and shook my head in a bit of disappoint. “You know how long I have wanted to learn to play the drums, so what kind of a question is that? Of course, I want to make a whole day of the thing, it’ll be fun. Now stop distracting me so I can finish making dinner,” I said as I gently shoved him again. “Alright, alright. I think my stomach would eat me away if I continued to try anyways,” he said as he left.

The rest of the night with the band was exactly what I needed to get my mind off Meili. The busy week that was about to follow would also help. The part that seemed the most exacting though was the drum lessons. I had wanted to learn since I was younger, at least from what I could remember of when I was younger. We all ended up staying up late that night before Annabelle and I decided to kick the guys out and get some much needed sleep. Annabelle seemed rather glad to see me as happy as I was. I was just glad that I actually could be that happy at the moment. Perhaps, I really had made the right decision in letting Meili go.
