Third OC In the Making...
General Description
The most vague and general description of Arah would be that he is a creature of the sea, as well as a member of faerie. His species can go by many names, however the most common are neck, nix, merfolk or sirens. He is able to appear both human (and walk on land) or as his half-human and half-fish appearance. As such he can be drawn either way. Below are various categories to help describe Arah in detail. Head Description
Hair. Arah's hair is kept relatively short, as opposed to traditional images of siren/mermen/etc. This image depicts Arah's hair from shortest (in a mohawk-fauxhawk styled fashion) to longest (loose, wavy hair that has been pulled back over his head). Please not that in all styles Arah's hair remains rather wavy, but not curly. His hair is a dark brownish-copper tone, similar to that of his tail (feel free to use the tail reference image to get his hair color).
Eyes. The only majorly notable thing about Arah's eyes is that they are a deep sea green color, lighter around the edges and darker as they near the pupil.
Nose. Arah has a slightly broad nose. Feel free to use both noses in this image as reference.
Mouth. Arah's lips are slightly fuller and poutier than most males, human or not. Teeth are straight and white, fairly nondescript. He does, however, occasionally wear a lip piercing made of seashell. The piercing itself is rounded and encircles the lip. Example, though this again would be made of seashell. Torso Description
Skin. Arah's skin is tanned, but not too dark. Keep in mind he spends a lot of time either in Seattle, visiting various other OC's of mine, or under the sea/water. So he does have a tan, but it is not too deep. However, there are some things to note about his skin. Arah's shoulders, back, and the back of his neck have a few rogue scales here and there, demonstrated by this image. This image is also a good depiction of his hands/fingers, which are slightly webbed. Note that webbing and scale colors can be seen in the tail reference image.
Build. Arah's build is typical of that of a swimmer (for obvious reasons), meaning he is lean yet muscled. This image is as close of a specific reference that I have been able to whip up at the moment. Some happy medium between the two builds shown there would be the best way to visually see what I have in mind for Arah's body build.
Torso Meets Tail. This section mainly is being provided to assist in a few specifics on how the region where man meets fish actually appears. Please note that Arah is able to be drawn with legs, as he is capable of shifting out of his aquatic form. So if you are not drawing Arah with his tail, feel free to ignore this section. Now, onto the information! The tail itself should start rather low on the hips, use this image as reference, but note that this is an image of a speedo/low-rise male underwear. Nothing graphic, merely a warning. No scales should begin above where the waistband of aforementioned underwear's waist line is. Now, the tail just doesn't begin, there is a gradual scattering of scales that eventually turns into the tail itself. Use this image as reference to see what I mean. Again, this is not a reference of how the tail should look specifically, nor a reference of where to start the scales. Simple a reference of what I mean by the gradual appearance of scales that congeal into a proper tail. Since the tail begins so low, I'll also be providing a depiction of Arah's back end. Scales start rather low, just like in the front, and as such part of the human-esque rump is visible. See this image for an example. No, this shouldn't be a graphic depiction of a males bottom. Simply that the powerful muscles in this region would, to a human, appear to be a human rear end. Tail Description
Length. Arah's tail is roughly one and a half to two times the length of his torso. This is a fairly common ratio for merfolk, though may be slightly longer due to the elegant fins he possesses. Arah's fish half is inspired by the butterfly koi.
Color. Arah's colors are a dark copper-y bronze and a much darker brownish black, both colors are referenced in the above tail reference image.
Fins. This image will be the best reference currently available. Arah's tail technically has six different fins on it. The first two are near his hips, at the highest point where his sporadic waist scales actually turn into a full-fledged tail. They are roughly as long as his arms and are semi-transparent (like all of his fins). The next set of fins are about one third father down the tail, and are identical to the first set of fins only slightly smaller. One dorsal fin lines the back of his tail, and resembles a single fin from either the first or second pair. The final fin is the actual tail fin, and is shaped like an elongated koi/goldfish tail. None of that double finned nonsense on the tail, one simple fin. I can try and provide a better description if this is hard to understand. Accessory Descriptions
Jewelry. In general Arah may be wearing any number of either gold chains and necklaces that he has found below the waves (this may be woven into his hair, about his neck, or even about his tail) or often decorates himself with various shells strung on seaweed, string, or said golden chains that he finds. These can be as necklaces, bracelets, tail decorations when in mer-form, or as anklets if he is depicted with legs. For the most part, I am confident giving artists some artistic freedom here.. though he wouldn't wear anything too gaudy.. or too much jewelry at once.
