The Saga Continues:
For the Children

...
...
...
[The next night, Cruce and Topher find it very difficult to sleep, thinking back to their day at school today...]
...
Cruce: [Facing the wall as he lays down...]
Topher: [Facing away from the wall. Both of them have a worried expression upon their face.]
...
[A few minutes of uncomfortable silence in darkness pass.]
...
Cruce: ...You still awake?
Topher: Mhmm... Cruce...?
Cruce: Yeah?
Topher: ...Why didn't they talk to us today...?
Cruce: ...They're just being dramaqueens. Like you and I last night...
Topher: ...I'm glad that's over... r-right?
Cruce: Yeah, it's over... I don't have the energy for us to fight or argue. It kind of hurts my heart, Tophs.
Topher: Aww... Me too... I'm sorry, Cruce...
Cruce: I'm sorry also. But it's a big deal. It's no surprise we're gonna get a little picky about it from time to time... being supernatural beings, or something. Something crazy.
Topher: Mmm... You know, we're doing a pretty good job... This isn't like a comic book. It's a lot harder keeping it a secret. This is Reality, and it's hard...
Cruce: ...What makes you say we're doing a good job exactly, Tophs...?
Topher: ...The Shaymin we saw on TV... Cruce, who knows how many of them are out there...? Federation Awgo could have a hundred of them stored in secret. They were caught... what if we're next...?
Cruce: ... (Topher... He really thinks that...? ...I guess it's a legitimate possibility. But it wouldn't make sense, according to the first collision! Pachi and Nuvlora... both of them had some sort of special connection with me. Topher was with me the whole time, and I didn't hear anything about a connection with him... But I could be wrong... Maybe there're millions of Eclipses and millions of people like me... But that wouldn't make sense either, because the Phazes came and... This... is really complicated...)
...
Topher: Cruce?
Cruce: Hm? Oh, sorry. I was thinking about what you said. How would you explain the Phazes coming specifically to us?
Topher: ...Good point... I forgot about them... Oogh, I don't know, I'm tired...
Cruce: [He turns to his other side, now facing Topher.] Me too. Thinking too much about it won't help.
Topher: [He senses the movement, mimicking his cousin and tossing over as well.] Hm... [He smiles at Cruce.]
Cruce: [Smirks back.] Hey there...
Topher: Hi... [Giggles softly, moving forward and lowering his head into Cruce's chest, his arms in front of him.] No matter what, at least we have each other...
Cruce: Very true, little buddy. [He wraps an arm around Topher, also placing his head atop his cousin's.] Very true... Good night, Tophs.
Topher: 'Nighty night.
[The two close their eyes...]
...
[Within minutes, Topher is asleep.]
...
[Cruce remains awake for a few more minutes, wondering if he will hear any voice the next morning.]
...
...
...
[That morning, Topher awakens before Cruce.]
...
"Yo! Anyone alive in there?"
...
"Cruce?"
...
Cruce: [He opens his eyes slowly.] ...Mmph...?
...
"'Ey! You awake?"
...
Cruce: [He sits up, rubbing his eyes.] Who's talking...?
...
"It's me! St--..."
...
Cruce: [Searches around the room.] Who...? I can't hear you clearly...? Are you an Eclipse?
...
[The voice is gone.]
...
Cruce: ...[He rubs his face with both hands.] ...Always... always happens... [He searches his room for Topher...] ...Looks like the homo's up... Homo, tch... (Who am I kidding? This coming from the guy who was freaking holding him last night. That guy is really rubbing off on me... almost literally.) ...
...
[After about twenty minutes, Topher returns in his pink and white bathrobe.]
Topher: Good morning, Crucie! Hear any voices today?
Cruce: Mornin'... I heard a voice, but it kinda disappeared right as I woke up. Anyway, you sound pretty good today.
Topher: Ooh, why thank you! I slept really well. [He walks to the bed and sits down near Cruce.] I enjoy the comfort of your arms around me. It's an element I was missing out on. Hmhm. [Strokes Cruce's chin once with a finger.]
Cruce: [Lifts his head, sightly paranoid.] ...!? T--dude, when the hell did you become Sam...?
Topher: [He stands, taking off his robe and revealing near-nudity again. He stands in a pair of black panties.] Sam? Your V friend?
Cruce: [He looks away, a hand blocking his view.] Yes, that Sam... You know, it surprises me how you surprised me. Sam's... hella gay. Sam is beyond gay. The guy is--I don't even know enough words to describe his gayness.
Topher: [Places his hands on his hips.] He's gayer than me...?
Cruce: Are you kidding? You're a football player compared to Sam. He likes to be called Samantha, for Pete's sake.
Topher: So~? I've been called Christina before. I like it.
Cruce: You'll need to seem for yourself when you get a Gathering Forces account. He said he's dying to meet you... And... [Faces Topher again.] to be completely honest, I'd like to see what happens when the two of you are in the same room... ...On the second thought, never mind.
Topher: [He giggles.] Oh hush, you'd totally watch us--...Nasty, Crucie.
Cruce: Shut up. Get dressed. [Sweatdrop.]
...
[With the two of them dressed in their school uniforms, black jacket over their collared shirts, they are ready to leave. The trip to school is short...]
...
Janet: ... [Driving silently.]
...
Cruce: Mom, you alright today...?
Janet: Yes. Just tired.
Cruce: ...You know, it's been a couple days since...
Topher: Cruce... [He shakes his head at Cruce, telling him silently to stop talking about the incident.]
Cruce: [Notices Topher and nods.] ... (Poor Mom... I hope she gets over it soon enough. It's really depressing at home. I think if I didn't have Topher, I'd go crazy... I'm glad Sis and I get along better than most brothers and sisters at this age, I'd think, but we're kind of shy around each other... Tophs... God, I'm happy you're here.) [He turns and smiles at Topher...]

-St. K. Campus-

...
[As the two arrive, they notice a disturbing sight...]
...
Janet: [She parks in the usual spot: near the principal's office, which, in turn, his near the lower-graded classes. As she does so, she looks out the window to see a few Awgo police vehicles and a news van.] Oh, I wonder what's happening here.
Cruce: [He looks out the window with disbelieve clear on his face.] ... (You've got to be kidding...) [He turns to Topher with this look. In turn, he receives the same look.]
Topher: Cruce...? I'm sure it's... it's nothing, right? Let's go. [He opens his door.]
Cruce: ...Yeah... Let's go. [He opens his door. The two of them leave the car.]
Janet: Have a nice day, boys.
...
[They watch as Janet drives off. Cruce and Topher stand idly on the first set of stairs, observing the few suspicious vehicles in the cul-de-sac.]
...
"I think I know what started this, Cruce..."
...
"Let's go see what the Circle is up to."
...
...
...
[The two walk their casual path up to the benches aligned in such a way that each grade meets at their own bench. The 7th grade bench is theirs, and it is near the end of the row. Upon reaching the upper parking lot, they notice another news van with an active camera and a scene unfolding. The Awgo police are present.]
...
Cruce: Heads up... [Watching ahead.]
...
Officer Gordon: [The very same officer who suffered the horrible mutation in the previous cross. He is speaking with a few classmates of Cruce and Topher's.] So, those two boys, Kyle and Jake, told us about a boy who is somewhat of a girl entering a residential yard as a black and blue flying creature and coming out as a human being. We also questioned the staff of Sycuan about the incident in the offices, and upon questioning the secretary at the front office--I believe her name is Janet--her description of this boy matched the two boys' description exactly. It's not entirely conclusive, but from what we've obtained, we believe that boy comes to this school and is in this grade. Can you tell us about this boy?
[The cameras are rolling.]
Bongo: Who? Are we on TV?
Al: Shut up, Bongo. [Faces the camera.] Yeah, I don't know for sure, but there is a girly boy who comes here with his cousin who I've known all my life. His name is Topher.
Gordon: Topher...? Has he acted suspicious lately?
Al: He has acted a bit strange, and I've been trying to make it less... I guess scary on him? He's really new here. What do you need to know about him though?
Gordon: Well, I'm you kids saw the news report on the captured creature in Oklahoma City, right?
Pat: Yes, we saw it.
Nic: [He nods.]
Al: Couldn't believe it.
Gordon: Neither could we. The officers in Oklahoma did enough testing to discover that this creature is, in fact, a human, thus leading us here. If our predictions are correct, these small flying reindeer are each humans able to transmogrify. Change their appearance, in other words.
Al: ...I think... I think I know someone else who can do that...
Gordon: [His eyes widen a tad at this claim.] What? Well, by all means, please tell us what you know!
[At this moment, Cruce and Topher arrive. They place their backpacks on the bench and try as best as they can to remain unassuming. Unfortunately, and almost instantaneously upon their arrival, all eyes shift to them.]
...
Cruce: ...Uh... [Scratches the back of his head.] 'Sup?
Topher: [Waves nervously.]
...
Al: ...[He turns back to the camera and hesitates.] ... Those... two... Both of them.
Gordon: Both of them what? Are they the ones?
Pat: Al!
Emelina: Al, what're you...?
Ivan: ...Al...?
Al: ...[He nods.] ...Yes.
Cruce: (s**t... Al, why'd you--) What's going on...?
Topher: [Gulps.] ... (Not this again...)
Gordon: [He observes the cousins carefully before walking to them almost with a menacing footfall.] (That kid is the same kid we saw at Sycuan, crying for his mom...) You two. Come with me.
Topher: !! C-C-Cruce! [Clings onto his cousin, his hands grasping Cruce's jacket.]
Cruce: [Wraps an arm around Topher, glaring at Gordon.] Sorry, Officer, but can I ask what the problem is...?
Gordon: You know damn well what the problem is. [At this moment, he turns for a few seconds to give a hand signal to his fellow officers. Each of them hurry into the scene, ordering the students to clear the way. A few of them draw their weapons. Gordon turns back to Cruce and Topher, grasping his own handgun.] You two will either come with us, or be shot at the first sign of resistance.
Topher: But, Sir... we--...
Cruce: [His glare intensifies as he moves his free hand behind his back. He curls his fingers, straining his hand. It appears to glow a faint green radiance...] Don't shoot, we--we'll come with you if it... if it means not being shot... I--[Suddenly, interrupting Cruce, a pale green chunk of ice, bordering on the size of a miniature comet, crashes into the news van, ruining the broadcast.]
...
[All eyes shift again, this time to the news van.]
Cameraman: What the heck was that?! ...We just lost the signal! Someone go check it out!
Gordon: [Looking back at the van.] What was that thing...? [His head turns back to the two.] What did you two do?!
Cruce: [He raises his free hand forward, defending his cause.] Wh--we just stood here, Sir! I don't know what it was, but it looked kind of greenish. I saw it come down.
Topher: Me too. It looked like a chunk of ice or something...?
Gordon: [He waves some officers in the direction of the van.] Go see what it was. I'll deal with these two. [He is approached by the anchorman on the scene.]
Anchorman: It looks like those boys were right. It was a ball of green ice. I've never seen such a thing.
Gordon: Do we know it's ice? Are you sure it's not... ...[He hears scampering footsteps behind him.]
[All eyes return to Cruce and Topher.]
Al: Guys!!
Ivan: Where are you going?!
[Cruce is holding Topher's wrist and running into the main hall, which also doubles over as the cafeteria. Cruce has his sights on the back door, which he pushes through quickly and escapes out the back alley. Officers pursue them without hesitating.]
Gordon: [Leads the chase.] Stop! Officers, be careful, but when they're in your sights, use lethal force. [He shouts out again.] You two, get the hell back here!! Now!!
Cruce: [He lets go of Topher and looks to the sky.] Topher!
Topher: [Aware of what is about to happen, he nods, giving it no opposition at the moment.] Hurry!!
Cruce: [He runs ahead, getting enough speed.] Meet me on the roof! [As he runs, his body flashes brightly. His running transfers from bipedal to quadrupedal as he leaps into the air and takes flight.]
Topher: [He simply hops up, morphing in a sudden flash. He jolts vertically, rocketing for the roof.]
...
[As Topher reaches the roof of the building, he sets down quickly, laying on his belly and lowering his ears to minimize the possibility of being seen on the roof, which has an overhang on every edge, increasing the efficiency of using it as a hiding spot.]
...
[Topher, in his Chronic form, spots Cruce at the other end of the roof. He, too, has entered his Chronic form. Both of them are the species the world seems to be after: Pokémon.]
Cruce: [Staying low, he inches his way to Topher.] ... [Once he reaches his cousin, he whispers near him.] We need to stay here for awhile. They'll take the search elsewhere soon enough. If not, I think we can fly off safely in another direction. [He checks around quickly.] Lessee...
Topher: ...I was caught...
Cruce: Topher, don't worry about that. We underestimated Awgo... It was my fault... I never should've decided to go save Mom...
Topher: ...[Remains silent.]
Cruce: Focus, Tophs. Now's not the time for this. Got it?
Topher: [He nods.] Okay... Just... tell me what to do and I'll do the best I can.
Cruce: Good, good. Let's stay here for an hour. I think it'll clear up soon enough...
