Rainy Day by Delirious Doll
Rainy Day

The sky was a ceiling of dark stormy clouds that had been threatening to rain all day. The air was unusually still for a summer’s day and the once bustling park was almost deserted except for one couple. Hands clasp tightly together the two strolled down the cobblestone trail, looking like any other couple. A flash of sudden lightning lit the sky and a booming roll of thunder followed, it noise so loud it shook the very ground.

Lundi stopped suddenly, her amber eyes lifted to gaze at the vast clouded sky. Sean let her hand slide from his and she took two wide steps forward. Eyes still focusing on the gray clouds, she slowly reached her arms upward in big arch; an inviting hug to the sky. Another bolt of lightning and a crash of thunder, Lundi eyes closed as a few drops of water fell from the sky, like uncertain tears. In the time it takes to draw a breath it became a downpour, large heavy drop came down, soaking Sean and Lundi through in a matter of seconds.

Her silver colored hair was plastered to her face, but she didn’t care in the least. The simple sundress she wore clung to the curves of her body, but she hadn’t noticed. Lundi was not like many girls, they would have run screeching from even the lightest rain, covering themselves with anything they could find. Lundi let the rain pour over her skin. If they hadn’t of already been outside when the downpour started she would have dropped everything and ran to it like an old friend. The rain washed away all the bad things; all the things that don’t need to be remembered, leaving only the good.

Lundi’s lips curved into a carefree smile, and it reflected onto Sean’s lips. When she smiled he couldn’t hold back his own. If he had the power to make it rain every single day just to see that smile, he would do it in a heartbeat.

“Excuse me miss, could I have this dance?” Lundi opened her eyes to the familiar voice. Sean stood slightly bowed at the waist and extending a hand toward her. His two-colored eyes gently urging her to take it.

“Why of course, sir.” She said, smiling graciously and taking his hand. He placed his other hand on her waist and they began; waltzing gracefully to the music of the raindrops splashing on the evergreen leaves.

“Wonderful weather we’ve been having.” Sean said, a regal tone to his voice fitting of a prince.

“Yes, yes, just wonderful.” Lundi replied, trying to keep up their game. Even in the rain she mirrored his movements effortlessly.

“Beautiful too.” He added. Their dance had begun to slow, and the rain followed suit, becoming only a drizzle.

She rest her head against his chest and mumbled, “Yes, quite beautiful.”

The rain had faded to nothing, the dark clouds moved on letting the bright yellow sun cast a dazzling light, that made the water droplets clinging to Lundi’s hair shimmer like diamonds. The couple stood in the center of the stone path, holding each other in a rain soaked embrace. “Almost as beautiful as you.” He breathed softly, resting his chin on the top of her head.

She lifted her head from his chest to look up at him, a torrent of emotion present in her eyes. “Do you mean that?” she asked her voice barely a whisper. His hand reached up to tenderly grasp her chin in his fingers.

“With all my heart.” His lips pressed to hers in a light kiss.

A grin lit up her face. “What, is that it?”

Sean laughed lightly. “Not if you don’t want it to be.”
As much as Lundi loved the rain she wouldn’t mind missing it as long as Sean was always by her side.
