Keeping in Mind...
Pretty much anything that won't fit in a facebook stat, or what I feel like writing. Random facts, or shocking details.

Always amazed when I reread Agamemnon. There's something so primal and yet so modern. It's language is fierce and subtly beautiful at the same time. The story seems like the photo negative of Song of Songs: violent, dark, filled with hatred, hubris and doom. Above it all looms Klytaemnestra, the most fearsome character in Greek tragedy.

Lyndsey Werner Wow, brain outage, just mixed up Agamemnon and Jason... I have a test coming up.
I typed all this first.
Jason as a person is a perfect example of someone getting every advantage and just completely messing up his life.
I mean, the guy had one of the most influential of all gods on his side. (Hera) He has a crew, just temming with heros, and he has a girl who was forced to fall in love with him.
Plus the guy married Medea, his patron goddess is the freaking goddess of marriage. WHERE in this senario does leaving your wife for a young woman make A LICK of sense?!

Lyndsey Werner PS I am 70-80% certain that if my mom were living during this time period, and my dad killed me or my sister, she would do almost the exact same thing... Except maybe with more tact. (I also don't think she'd kill Cassandra, she'd probably feel sorry for her.)
I don't know what's up with Elecktra, my dad killed Shell, and I'd have probably gone all killery on his butt too. I'd just give him the mercy of a quick death. If it were anyone else I'd make them think they were going insane first.
Yeah, I've thought about this. I'm a writer, what can I say? I do a lot of putting myself in others position.
The fact is that if Klyteamestra was a man instead of a woman, she would have been saluted for her actions rather then demonized.

Scott Comer Anne Carson, who translated the plays has a great essay on Elektra. I need to get you this. I'd love to know what you think.

Lyndsey Werner Good cause I don't get her.
I still say that Klyteamestra would have been saluted if she were a man. Despite the many mistakes she made.
