I was reading old entries in this journal and realized just how much has changed since then with my game projects. Much of what I had "done" with Battle has been changed even further (for the better, mind you) and I'm still running on very little music and next to no code due to not having the math done. Or rather the math is pretty well set, but I need values to plug into it for all the equipment. But at least I have the formulae.
Really, I'm to the point where I could start building a prototype. I don't have an enemy list, either, but that's what test enemies are for. FF8 had the Dummy enemy and FF7 had all SORTS of test battles left in the data.
So why haven't I started on it? Well, because I'm split between too many projects and it's not really a priority. I could make a battle test at this point, but I'd prefer to have more done before I do. I realize that's a terrible policy since I'll need to make changes anyway when the results pop up. It's just how my brain works. I've known for several months that I could throw together a test using unarmed combat while I figure out the weapons, but for some reason I can't stop focusing on the getting the pieces done. Most of it is probably because I don't have dedicated time, so it's easier to fiddle with little stuff, but I'm having trouble taking myself seriously at this point.
So a list of what I need to do for Battle: - stop obsessing over the music - stop obsessing over extra content - start assigning values to all the items - throw together a couple flavors of Gnoll or something - come up with a real name for it (it's Battle in my head, but that won't fly for a final product)
That said, I have a lot of projects, so realistically I can't work on them all at once. I'm not trying to, either. I've dropped some along the way and have no plans to continue them, and some are just in stasis for a while. The ones I currently plan to continue are: - Battle (mostly inactive) - PoC (mostly inactive) - a Game Boy-style RPG (inactive) - a retro (DOS-style) magical platformer (inactive, put aside for now) - a retro (NES-style) gun platformer (new and active, has replaced the above for now) - Ruby (active) - another dungeon-crawler (active)
It's a lot of projects and I do do some passing work on the inactive ones occasionally. I'd be more worried if I felt that making these was supposed to be my focus, but it's not. I have school and plan on finding a job right out of graduation. These are and always have been free-time projects, despite the occasional frustration of not having more done with them.
Speaking of, I should study. I have tests coming up.
