I want to throw a tantrum
Let's call my ex-boyfriend Rick (rhymes with.... wink )

So, when I broke up with my now-ex-boyfriend, I agreed to wait until Rick had a job before moving out. He got one within three weeks. (TOOK you long enough, you a**.) Then he begged me to not submit a two month's notice to the apartment complex so he could have time to find a new home without worrying about being homeless. I reluctantly agreed, especially on the understanding that he would deactivate the cable and electricity when he was ready to leave and notify the people. I even helped out with the next month's rent since he only just started his job, which drained the last of my $1000 tax return.

First, his method of 'notifying' the people was in the form of a note in a rent check envelope, which no one apparently saw and would've still been a late notice anyway. Then, he never turned either off, and swears that I was going to be turning it off. (So the power and cable were running for an empty apartment for a month or two before I realized this. OUCH. Dammit, I don't even have the legal rights to turn off one of them, and yet he had the audacity to yell at ME for it, even after I had been ******** petting his delicate ego so he wouldn't just suddenly drop out of existence and leave these huge bills for me to pay!)

Now, I have been contacted by the apartment complex's company's collection agency.

Guess what! Now, we have a charge of $2312.77 against us!

wait, just in case you didn't get that the first time.

$2,312.77 8D

The BEST part? Half of that? Is from breaking the lease without notice! 8D

Oh, wait, no, that's not the best part.

When I told him about this immediately, not only did he bristle and get all huffy at a MILDLY annoyed email (no, srsly, I was as civil as could be without any insults or name calling or even implications, and yet he STILL managed to find something to get offended at.) Anyways, no, he said "Oh yeah, of course I'll pay my half.... excluding the Breaking Lease fee".

.......ExCUSE me? Whoa, whoa, whoa, so wait a minute, back track. You mean to tell me that he just gave up ANY responsibility for that fee that is HIS fault?

Oh boy.

And I had already tried deactivating the cable, but had gotten no response, so when I tried again, I was informed as to why (my name and info isn't anywhere on the account, so I don't have legal authority there), I forwarded that to him and calmly asked him to please do it, and he YELLED at me. Uhhh, BOY, you're making me REALLY want to stop being so ******** civil to you.

UGH.

.....

Well, because I feel like being polite to this imaginary audience, here's more of the backstory.

Way back in January of 2009, I moved into an apartment with my then-boyfriend. We had been living with a classmate, but he abruptly moved out the moment Rick lost his job due to too many absences.

So, long story short, I was single-handedly supporting Rick, my cat and I on a crappy part-time job that I was NOT allowed to change to full time (yeah, my boss said that) and was stuck with $8/hour. Rick did little to help. Sure, he constantly job-hunted from the comfort of the apartment, but he didn't uphold his end of the bargain as far as taking care of the apartment. I can't tell you how many times we got gnat infestations because of those damn dirty dishes.

Finally, I couldn't take anymore a few months ago, and broke up with him. At the same time, my mom happened to be moving back into town, heard about the situation, and offered for me to move in with her. (She even said I could quit that horrible job and go back to school... Sweet 8D). I stayed in that apartment for almost two months after breaking up before I finally moved out.
