Trying hard not to blog...
Ignorance is Bliss
So, after participating in this thread, I've kind of come to a realization about my comics-related habits. Part of it was deciding I wasn't reading enough, so a couple entries ago you may have noticed all the comics I decided I "needed" to catch up on.

Still working on that, by the way. But no concrete updates until October.

Well, the other part of that was reading the blogs, participating in the discussions, basically engaging in the industry side of the fandom conversation. I followed DC on Facebook, read their official blog for news, hit up sites like Scans_Daily, and of course talked about comic news over in the CDF and with friends out in the real world. What I was doing wasn't inherently bad, but basically what it was doing to me was it collectively put me in a bad mood. Like an industry-wide version of what happened with Naruto.

Anyway I, for the most part, stopped all that. I still talk to (IRL) people about comics, and I haven't ditched the CDF, though I've cut out everything else. It's too damn depressing to me to keep reading arguments about the horribleness of current Peter Parker, which Titan is up next for a maiming/death, which book Winnick or Willingham is getting next, or JoeyQ/Didio's latest verbal gaffe. And I am remarkably more content. I get to focus on the comics part of the equation, on books that I like, and it's a lot better this way.

It's not about the business, it's about the stories; a fact I'm slowly coming back to, and is a lot healthier in the long term.
