"Is a dream a lie if it don't come true?
Or is it something worse?"
When all you are ever told are dreams
Dreams masquerading as the truth
Nothing is what it seems
The very world you thought you lived in
The life you were told was so dear
Soon becomes a thing of fiction
The house of cards eventually falls down
And there you are left inside
The solitary owner of a worthless crown
Some people are not worth believing in
Some people are not worth saving
And some people will never admit which ones they really are
Why bother trying to find out for yourself
Why put yourself through more of the pain
Why listen to anyone who has no grasp on honesty
The truth is there is no good reason
When push comes to shove
All you are really looking for is some hope that at a magical time in the future things will change and you will one day be deserving enough in that person eyes to hear the truth
And that is where the reason lies
An awful reason
But a reason none the less
No one likes to admit they are that worthless to another human being
Lie after lie after lie after lie after lie
The truth about why you believe them just becomes more and more clear
You would believe a million deceptions before you finally stop telling the one lie you so desperately cling to about yourself: "I matter."
