`50/50`
a short story about Rixian and Auriki. :X

“You’re so selfish!”

“I’m the selfish one!? You’re the one-“

“Shut up!”

“Fine then Rixian, blame it all on me!”

A door was slammed.

“Daddy, what’s going on?” Tai looked up at Riku sadly. Kohaku looked at him as well, holding Mitsuru in her arms.

“Don’t know, kiddo.” Riku said, picking him up.
The door to the kitchen was pushed open, a furious looking Rixian appearing.

“Rix…?” Kohaku asked. He ignored her, stalking over to the fridge. The cooks looked down as he passed them, hurrying with the preparations for lunch.

Kohaku looked at Riku worriedly, before setting Mitsuru down, “Why don’t you go play with Tai sweetheart?” she said.

Riku nodded, setting Tai back down, “Listen to your aunt.” He said, ushering the two out. “I’ll go find Auriki.” He whispered to Kohaku before following the two children out of the kitchen.

As soon as they left, Kohaku walked over to Rixian who was staring angrily into the fridge, as if ever piece of food in it had wronged him somehow.

“Is everything alright?” she asked softly, wrapping her arms around his waist. She rested her head against his shoulder, kissing him lightly on the cheek.

“No.” He slammed the fridge door shut, the force of it making dishes in the cabinets shake.
Kohaku frowned, as he turned to face her. His face was dark, upset. She had never seen him like this.

“I hate her!” he said furiously.

“Who?”

“You KNOW who. Auriki. She’s such a selfish-“

“You don’t really mean that…!” Kohaku said, grabbing onto his arms tightly.

“I do mean that.” He said fiercely, “I do.”

He found her in the piano room, sitting at the grand piano. She was playing intently, but look distracted as her hands ran across the keys.
He sat down next to her, and waited patiently for her to stop and speak.

“I…” she started to say something and paused, “I don’t know what to say to him.” She sniffled, “I didn’t…know there was so much pressure on him. I would’ve…done more, come to Redalia more instead of spending all my time on Destiny Islands.” She slammed her fist down onto the piano keys, “But it’s not just my fault! He never said anything! How can he expect me to know?!”

Riku placed his hand ontop her clenched fist, “Maybe he was afraid you’d be mad at him, and refuse.”

“He’s such an idiot…” she muttered.

“He’s still your brother,” he replied, “And you love each other. Don’t forget that.”

Auriki shook her head, fighting back tears, “No, he hates me. He’s always so busy with work, he never has time for Kohaku…or Mitsu.” A few tears escaped, falling onto the piano keys. The bright red was a stark contrast to the white keys.

“Knock it off…” He reached around her, grabbing her tightly, “Just go and talk to him. You’re not like this.”

She sniffled slightly, “Yeah…you’re right.” She pulled away from him, wiping at her face, “I’ll go find him…”

She knew exactly where he’d be.
It was place only they knew about, a place they had discovered when they were children. Bored with only each other as companions, they had discovered the hidden room together.
It wasn’t empty though. He was sitting there in the middle of it, holding toys they had left there.

“You remember this?” he asked as she entered, not looking up.
He held up an old picture they had drawn.
It was a crude drawing, done in pencils. The two of them were holding hands. Auriki had an elaborate crown, (courtesy of Rixian) and he had a long flowing cape (courtesy of Auriki.)
She nodded, smiling a bit as she sat down next to him.

“Yeah. We never were the best drawers, huh?” she asked.

He nodded, laughing, “Yeah. Mom always loved them though. Dad would just look at us and try not to cry.”

“Ah, well. Dad’s a spazz like you are.”

“Don’t call me that!” He protested.

She laughed, grabbing him in a hug, “I’ll call you whatever I want!”

“No.You.Won’t!” he struggled against her, and they fell over, laughing.

They laid there, looking up at the black ceiling of the room, trying to catch their breaths.

“I’m sorry.”

They both spoke at once, and laughed as they did.

“I should’ve…told you I needed help.” Rixian said, his hand grabbing his sisters.

“Yeah…but, I shouldn’t just blindly think you’ll take care of everything.” She looked at him smiling, “You’re my brother, everything’s 50/50 with us.”

He smiled back at her, “Right.”

“Mommy?”

“Daddy?”

They looked up, surprised.

Mitsuru and Tai stood there, looking at the two curiously.

Auriki and Rixian stared back, as if they were seeing themselves as children again.
They looked back at each other…and laughed.
