Why I Miss Band...
Over reading week I went and visited my highschool. I saw my choir director but unfortunatly my music director AKA my favourite teacher had left already. But being able to go back to choir and sing made me feel like I never left. And who am I kidding? I never really did; a part of me is still there and always will be. I loved choir but not as much as band. I played flute in concert band for 4 years and alto sax in jazz for just over a year. I do not own any of these instruments so it's sad that I still can't play at the moment! I wouldn't buy/rent one now anyways due to time restrictions. Currently I'm in love with my guitar and piano because they're the instruments I have.

The question isn't "Do I miss band?" because that's so obvious. So the question becomes "Why do I miss band and why do I miss it so much?" The answer is: "A second home and family". To me, band wasn't an extracurriclar activity. Repertoire class wasn't just another credit. At school it was home. I swear you'd never have to look for me because I'd always be in the music room!! When you walked in that room, all problems disappeared and you were filled with such passion for music and a loving atmosphere. We were a family and we grew together from gr.9-g.12. Especially repertoire. It was the same people through the 4 years, hence the "family". Everyone came together for band and we gave it our all! It was something we loved, something we were good at, something we enjoyed doing with friends and the best music director EVER! smile

I absolutely love music and playing instruments and it gave me a sense of accomplishment. I miss my flute greatly. It's so beautiful and it was definitely the instrument. I had played for 2 years before gr.9 so I had some experience but watching my playing improve year by year was such a wonderful feeling! People complimented me on my playing and I knew I was playing well. It gave me pride and satisfaction. I also miss all the times we did something wrong and we knew it! Like when we'd come in wrong or think we're in a different time/key signature. We laughed and carried on! So many good memories were shared in that room/related to music activities and I will never forget them!

The best part of highschool was band. I know some people enjoyed band but they didn't love it. I'm very passionate about things I love. I loved band and always will. It will always be a part of me; not just the music but the people and the memories we shared as well. heart biggrin

It's 2:20am now and I should go to bed! I've had a long week.
