Since moving to Maine, I am surprised at the amount of people who share my interests in other cultures, unlike back home in Georgia. I have recently begun to influence my niece with my own interest in Japanese cultures (of course, she is 10 and looks up to those around her) and well... I am a COMPLETE Japan-addict, so when the topic of Bento lunches came up, I knew I had to start making some for her, when ever she visits her father (since her uncle and I live next door!)
I have been doing some study of the fundamentals of bento lunches online, and I get the concept but I am still a bit daunted, you see I am not that great of a cook plus being in a small American town, it is very difficult to find some Asian ingredients.
But I would really love to do this for her, not only will it be a huge conversation point for her at the school lunch time, but I can also make sure she will have a few healthy meals now and then (School cafeteria lunches...*shudder!*)
Any suggestions?
