It actually started with a random sketch of a woman whose name ended up being Ritsuko.
During that time, I was trying to come up with a snazzy logo or mascot that everyone would remember me by. I was doodling on an oekaki board one day, knowing I wanted at least a catboy. Gave him the name of one of my favorite voice actors (Tomokazu Seki) and I thought that was it! Obviously, he looks nothing like the Tomo everyone sees now...
Thinking about it more, I decided that I wanted to develop this character more. He had a backstory, but there was nothing special about it. In this version, his parents had passed away and Ritsuko (his sister at this point in development) was set to take care of him and his younger sister, Maaya. Just like the Tomo we know, today, there was no explination for his feline features and his siblings before and after him were as normal as normal can be. The rest of the story was just the trials and tribulations of going to high school as a freak.
And then there was the dream. (Which details shall remain unknown) As a result, it sparked the plotline that I have, today. Tomo was given a makeover and became the first of my characters to be blond.
(You can see that he's starting to look like the current Tomo, but he leaugues younger and has all limbs intact.)
And finally, I sat down and worked out a short biography for him, redesigned his character one more time, and began to chart his travels in So Much For Suicide. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
(First drawing of the final Tomokazu)
