Write me a story, get a letter.
Description:
I'm selling my donation letters for the price of a story (in the sense of "a piece of fiction", rather than "an anecdote" wink . The story can be written by yourself, or you can recommend three stories written by others.

The catch is this: I have to enjoy the story. Yes, this is subjective. If I truly liked the story, the letter is yours, and I will never lie about it, but I admit that there really is no basis for trusting me other than my word.

PM me the story link (preferably on Gaia), or (if you're feeling adventurous) mention in in the Writers' Forum "Eleventyone" thread (it's the very long thread with a "111" in the title, generally talking about reading the stickies). If I like the story, I will say so, and you win the letter. If I don't like the story, I will also say so, honestly and bluntly, along with why. (This may include "because I don't like the fandom" or some such. I will try to be fair, but I am only human.)

There is no limit on the number of times you can submit a story to me. It can even be the same story, improved. Only one letter per winning story will be given, but one person may send multiple stories. (Many stories set in the same universe and/or with the same characters = one story.) You may have your choice of letter.

Also, do give me some time to read and respond.

The following letters are available, as of 24th January 2006:

Nobody yet.

The following is non-essential information, but may help.

Tips:
Writing a story that I will like isn't really that hard. Here are a few tips:

- Decent spelling and grammar.
Spelling is far more important than grammar, admittedly (largely because it is easier to check). I don't ask for Ultimate Perfection, but any blatant errors will detract a great deal from the story.

Formatting for readability (ie paragraphs) also helps.

- Intelligent.
Research your material, and show it in a clean, interesting manner. Surprise me with a new concept, or an old one seen from a new angle. Keep me guessing about how the story will go.

- Cheerful.
I like happy stories. I like happy stories with substance. Doom and gloom, angst and death, all these may possibly be good enough for me to look past them to the immensely well-crafted plot, but it is highly unlikely.

On the other extreme, if there is little to no plot but lots of random goofiness and wackiness, I'll smile, but it's just as unlikely to win a letter.

In short, Plot + Humour = Win.

- Length.
The more I have to read (and enjoy reading), the better your chances will be. I'm doing all this mostly because I lack good reading material.

Of course, if your story gets bogged down in details and meandering, that is bad.

- Fanfiction vs. Original fiction.
Writing fanfiction is a two-edged deal: I'm far more likely to read about characters I like than characters I know nothing about, but I'll be extra-strict on OOC behaviour. Original fiction may take me a while to get into, but once you've hooked me, you're golden.

If you're wondering, fandoms I'm interested in are: Card Captor Sakura, City of Heroes/Villains, various "romantic comedy" anime (normally based off a "visual novel" dating sim game), various "magical girl" anime (other than Sailor Moon), Star Control 2, and assorted others. If you're not sure, try anyway, I may be familiar with it. (Normally I hang around the SF&F portion of the bookstore, so you may want to start extrapolating from there.)

Fandoms I am not interested in are: "Fighting" anime (Naruto, Bleach, DBZ), Harry Potter (I can be swayed, but it had better be awesome), most "dark" or "angsty" fandoms.

More will be added as I think of them.
