The Best Places to FIND BUGS IN TOWNS
I've been doing this for over a YEAR AND A HALF ... and found some very nice ways to find more bugs/flowers and trash. Most important to ME is the BUGS.

TIPS:

When you go to towns, through the WORLD subheading, select the TOWNS option. When you come to the main screen, select the DIRECTORY option. It will show you an overview of one huge square of little boxes, each box represents an area of 9 "rooms". If ANYONE is in any of the boxes, the box will either be RED or PINK (red means lots of people). There is a COMPASS located on the upper right of the directory page. Click in any direction N, E, S, W until you find the whole screen with ONLY beige squares, meaning there is NO ONE in the whole area .... THEN and only then should you randomly choose a box to click on.

It will reveal a 9 room area. IT SHOULD HAVE MORE OPEN SPACES (NO HOUSES) THAN AREAS WITH HOUSES. BUGS LIKE OPEN SPACES MORE wink . One reason might be that alot of people search from there HOUSE to get to the towns instead of going in the other way smile , so open spaces aren't accessed as much, and no one is congregating "out there in the boonies" wink .

I find that an area that has as many if not more open spaces than areas WITH houses yield the better bugs/trash/flowers.

If you DO find a great room, save it to your favorites ... which can be found once you call up the directory page (globe) at the bottom of the page. Click on the sign over the square you want to save to favorites to get the address, and it will add it to the list. wink you can add up to six saved.

Once you've traveled as many squares in that 9 room area that you want, call up the directory, use the compass in THAT screen and go to another 9 room area with open spaces/houses OR locate the ZOOM in the upper left to zoom back out to the main directory and start from the beginning and move out in another direction. Just GO WHERE NO ONE IS!!

TIPS:

If you go into a room with LOTS of flowers/trash and no one has been there for a while, you might notice that there are flowers from ALL times of day/night there ... if you are hunting in the DAYTIME, you'll see blue flowers and/or red flowers wink that lets you know no one had been there for at least one whole gaian day wink (red/pink flowers/trash are dawn/dusk items, blue flowers/trash are night items), paper bags, cans, and boots can be found in all three times of the day. These are good rooms to save to your favorites wink .

If you go into a room and don't find many bugs, EXIT THE ROOM AND GO BACK IN AGAIN. Sometimes this helps reset the room and the bugs will show up THEN.

If you pick all the flowers/trash and get the bugs from a room and go to the next room, go back into the previous room again THE FLOWERS AND TRASH WILL NOT REFRESH, BUT AT LEAST SOME OF THE BUGS USUALLY DO .... so you can catch more bugs before moving on wink . I've gotten ALOT that way. Not every room does this, but some of them do, especially if you have caught alot of bugs in that room the first time wink .

Night bugs: (can also be found during dawn and dusk but not as frequently):

Black: cicadas and fireflies
blue: beetles, butterflies, dragonflies
brown: crickets, beetles

Dawn/dusk bugs: (can be found mostly in these time periods but I've found a few during the day and night):

Red: butterflies, beetles, dragonflies, red flies

Day bugs: ( mostly daytime but I've found a few during dawn/dusk):

grasshoppers, green dragonflies, yellow butterflies, beetles

FLOWERS and TRASH ITEMS:

Dawn/Dusk: pink daffodils, purple daisies, pink carnations, red construction paper, goldenrod xerox paper, OLD newspaper

Daytime: yellow daffodils, white daisies, white carnations, green construction paper, white xerox paper, REGULAR newspaper

Night: blue daffodils, blue daisies, blue carnations, blue construction paper, blue xerox paper, DIRTY newspaper

NewsPRINTS, paper bags, boots, cans and sunflowers can be found at ALL times day/night smile . Sometimes you will find cross-overs of items but these are the basic standards.

AFTER A WHILE BUGS/TRASH AND FLOWERS WILL BECOME MORE SPARSE .... IT IS A NATURAL WAY TO TELL YOU TO GIVE IT A REST FOR AWHILE AND LET THINGS REFRESH/RESET IN TOWNS wink . AN HOUR OR TWO AT A TIME IS BETTER THAN A FEW wink . ONE FULL GAIAN DAY FROM DAWN TO DAWN IS APPROXIMATELY A LITTLE OVER ONE HOUR REAL TIME wink .

Breakdown:

1 gaian hour = 6 minutes real time:

20 minutes real time = gaian day/night
10 minutes each real time = gaian dawn/dusk

Dawn: 5:48-7:56 AM
Day: 8:04AM-5:42PM
Dusk: 5:48-7:56 PM
Night: 8:04PM-5:42AM

Check with the main Town train station for what the time is on gaia and compare it to your real time to determine how much real time/gaian time until the period of the items that you want to collect will be.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask smile I hope this helps any aspiring town hunters smile I know this method has helped ME out greatly so I want to share it with you smile

HAPPY HUNTING smile .

UPDATE 11/2013 -- They have recently added a GAIA STANDARD TIME page so you can check what it is currently in towns without having to open up the train station screen.

Here's the link, and for easy access, put this on your QUICKLINKS feature at the bottom of the page:
