She felt alone in the world. Cut off from the rest of the world. It was late at night and she was locked in her room. Well, it wasn't her room. It was a room she stayed in. Her captors wouldn't let her leave the house. It had been a month. She just wanted to go home.
And tonight she finally got the chance.
She quietly pryed the once bolted window open. She had been working on the bolts all week. Once she finally got it open and off the frame, a cold chill blew through the room. She was barefoot but didn't want to make any noise with shoes. Socks would get wet. Her jacket was too big and loud so she left that too.
She climbed out of the window and ran away from the house where she thought civilization was. The snow felt cold on her feet. She kept running. Around her, she heard the sound of crunching snow. A small beam of moving light was seen in the distance.
She grabbed a hold of a tree branch and climbed up the tree. Beneath her, people were running toward the house with big flashlights. She heard the branch crack underneath her. She fell down and landed on the sand.
She stood up and wiped the snow off her. Snow crunched around her. She tried to sprint but ran into someone. She struggled to get out but the person held a firm grip.
"I've got you Ciara. It's ok." She looked up and saw the face of her older sister. She wrapped her arms around her and cried.
"Come on. Let's get you warm." She carried her to the waiting truck and wrapped a thick blanket. By the time the rest of the team showed up with her captors, she had fallen asleep in the back of the covered truck on her sister.
