Chapter Two: The Beginning

Let’s go back to how it all started for me, I was 19, I had everything going for me, a great family, a place at any collage I wanted, a beautiful girlfriend and a good amount of money. With all of this I was happy and then I lost it all….
It was a cold September night, I was with Jen, my then girlfriend, I was walking her home when a shadowy figure began to follow us, at first I didn’t notice but she did, she began to whisper to me that she was scared and I had looked back a few times and had told her it was nothing. After a few more blocks she began to pester me again about the figure that was still following us, at this point there was two things I could have done, keep walking and tell her it would be ok or turn and confront the man, if I had kept walking I would have still been alive with Jen and my bright future, but I didn’t I stopped making sure she was behind me and turned to the figure, I spoke to him normally with a hello, there was no response and he took a few steps closer at this point I began to wonder what he might do, as he took that last step closer he came into the light of the streetlamp above us and I saw his eyes, at first I thought they were just contacts but now I know that they weren’t. He moved so fast I couldn’t do anything to stop him, he grabbed her and ripped her throat in front of my eyes, I lost control of myself, I didn’t think, I didn’t care I just attacked the thing with my bare hands punching and punching until my hands bled it didn’t even affect it, then suddenly I hit the streetlamp, it began to flash on and off every few seconds, I couldn’t move, with the pain the shuddered along my back I was basically paralyzed, it then put its lips right up to my ear and whispered the last words I heard as a human, as a mortal.
“Welcome m’boy to the real world” he then bit my neck. The pain was unbearable for the next hour which seemed like 50 lifetimes I laid next to the streetlamp that had disabled me writhing in pain unknowing that my body was changing and of the other world that I didn’t know about that was now becoming my world.

I then awoke, everything seemed clearer, I could pin point every smell around me, I didn’t realise it at first so I just got up, brushing myself off I looked around, not knowing where I was I began to try and remember what had happened, the last thing I could remember, then the image of Jen’s throat being ripped open in front of me this image was ingrained into my mind, the last memory of before….
The first few days are still unclear to me now, I ran around in the shadows trying to understand what was happening to me, on the third night I found myself outside of somewhere familiar, I knew the place from before but I couldn’t quite remember, at this point my vision had become so much better than that of a humans and my hearing was even more acute, my movements more precise and swift. I decided to find out what this place was, where I knew it from, so I knocked on the door after no answer I remembered it was about 3 in the morning and if someone was inside they would be asleep, I walked around the house and found a window that was slightly open, as I climbed threw it, more memories of this place came back to me, but I still couldn’t think what it was, I glided without making a sound around the house, I use the word glided cause walking is to slow and human. I came to a door that was slightly open with a light on inside, I looked in and instantly remembered where I was, frozen, unable to move or think I just stood there on the other side of the door from my mother and sister. This was my home, where I had lived, what would they be thinking, I just disappeared, they would be worried, but if they saw me like this, I looked in the mirror on the wall and a dark eyed stone like face with white fangs poking out his mouth glared back, I wasn’t me any more, I had changed they might not recognise me, they might be scared, I could hurt them, I thought as I winced remembering what I had done to that homeless man last night, my clothes still stained with Jen and the homeless mans blood I looked like a killer, not the boy they once knew.
I was about to walk out and never come back as the door I had been standing by opened slowly, it was Raven or was it, I knew it was her but she was different, my eyes widened as I saw her eyes and the fangs now poking out her mouth.
Had it happened to her as well? What was this! I was confused and lost but now Raven as well, she was in that room with mother, she must know about it, what did she think? Was she safe?
“Twin you should come in” Raven said in a different voice than that of the one I remembered, it was almost like singing so perfect and fine.
I walked inside slowly and saw mother, with everything that was going on, my natural instincts of what I was now were drowned out but as I saw her I knew that she was dead.
“Mother!!” I shouted as I ran to her I saw the marks on her neck, the same thing as what I did to that homeless man, I looked up at Raven, No way, Raven couldn’t have done this!
“Raven w-what’s going on?! What happened?!” I shouted as I stood up with so much force I almost hit the roof, I had forgotten about my new strength. At that moment a man walked in the room, it was the man from before, the one that killed Jen! I lunged at him without thinking going for his neck but he dodged without even trying I got up after hitting into a bookcase as snarled deeply at him, this was new, I didn’t want to snarl but it just happened.
“Twin please calm down, everything that has happened, had to happen, it was planned, there is nothing you could do about it and now we are what we should be.” Raven told me so calmly as she walked to me.
I dropped to the ground, nothing made sense to me, what was going on, planned? By who? What we should be, what is that?.
“shh twin everything will be ok” she said as she embraced my still body that was now laying on the floor.
They both, Raven and this man, then spent the rest of the night explaining everything to me, what had happened to me, why, what was going it happen, they answered nearly all of my questions before I asked them, there was only one thing they didn’t say and I hadn’t asked yet, What are we?
I had my suspicions that we were, but I wasn’t sure, I decided to ask.
“um….What are we?....we are not human anymore…I know that without you telling me, but what are we now…?” I said as I sat up against the wall with Raven in my arms, eyes closed, not asleep, just relaxing.
“You know what we are” said the man, who I now know is called Kai.
I looked at him, he shining black hair glimmered in the light of the room with his black leather jacket and heavy black boots he leaded against the opposite wall watching me. “V-vampire?” I said half stuttering on the word of this thing that I thought I was now. He nodded.
It turns out that our father, the man I never knew, was a vampire as well, by having our father as a vampire it basically set our future when we were born, before I was bitten I was kind of in between the two beings not knowing the strength a power that I could have, that I have now, because of our father we are stronger than normal vampires, we might only be newlings but our potential is much more, we are what is called a pure blood vampire, being the offspring of a vampire makes them pure blood, but according to Kai, Raven and Me are true pure bloods as our father was a pure blood. All this blood talk and strength and potential might be confusing you but all you really need to no is, we are not normal vampires, we are elite, some of us are considered the nobles of our kind. But with this brings about more danger and enemies against us but I will explain that later.

It was about 7am, still sitting against the wall I watched Kai as messed around with a sheet of metal, seeing the question in my eyes he stood up and walked to me, he sat down near me and continued to clean it off, making this side as shiny as possible, he then took out a piece of chalk and wrote some symbols on it in chalk, he then said a few words under his breath “show and shimmer”, I watched as the sheet of metal shined and then suddenly a image appeared on the metal. I was amazed.
“what is that? What did you do?” I asked still staring at it in amazement as the image moved, it was like it was a monitor getting a view from a camera.
“This is one of the things I can do, one of the spells I know, it allows me to follow anyone and anything I want, within reason obviously.” He replied as he touched it and the small circular sheet of metal flashed and the image disappeared, he put it in his pocket.
“Spells?” I asked as he stood up.
“Yes spells, you will learn all about them later on, there are millions of books on them and if your lucky someone might train you in them.” He said in a quite distracted tone and walked out the room.
I looked to the shelf next to me scanning the titles for anything that could tell me more about my new life. Still holding Raven in my arms I looked down at her, she was looking at the large cut along my arm in horror.
“Raven don’t worry about it, its nothing” I said trying to calm her.
She sat up and looked me in the eyes. “Twin I love you”
I smiled “I love you too Raven” I hugged her and she hugged me back, no matter what happened I would protect my sister, I will be there when she needs me I promised myself that.
“I no you will Twin” she said, like she knew what I was thinking at that very moment.
I stopped “what raven?”
“I no you will be there when I need you” she smiled.
“I didn’t say anything about that” I said curious now.
“I know but that is our gift twin, we can hear each other” she said as she tapped her forehead gently.
I listened and like it was speech I heard ~See twin, we are special~
I looked back at Raven, I smiled ~yes we are Raven~



Note: When the ~ sign is used that means the speech heard is thoughts, so when me and Raven exchange thoughts that is what is used.
