I started a thread over on my guild for "post your workstation". I think it's always fun to see how people customize their work area to their personality and it's interesting to see that after getting familiar with their work. Anyway Sporkii suggested I stick it here too, so here's where I spend too much of my time:
Yeaaaahh~~ mine's all in the corner of the apartment. That's Sporkii's desk to the right of mine. Okay let's go through the numbers!
- M-audio bx5a studio monitors. Got these to replace some shameful logitech speakers that came with a computer I bought in 2005 > >... they were fine for playing games but not good for mixing music. Anyway these guys sound sweet and super crispy.
- Auralex mopads, motion isolator pads to prevent said bx5a's vibrating on the wood...but perhaps more importantly, to angle them down facing towards me. As sweet as those bx5a's are, they're very directional...meaning that they sound best when aimed right at your head. So I got these guys to aid that since I've got no space anywhere else to orient them directly at my face.
- LG Flatron W2600H, despite the model name it's actually 25.5", not 26". I love the size, but the more intense colors can get a little too saturated for me. Still, it was a good value at the time I bought it and I'm happy with it overall.
- LG L226W, this one's only 22.5", works great for a second monitor. Also, the colors feel more balanced on it so I kind of use it for reference as well.
- Cheap breakout box for my Sound Blaster X-fi elite. I mostly just like that it has headphone jack, inputs and master volume control, but the rest of the knobs are pretty useless. IMO they should be used the other knobs to control volume level of all of the inputs, but instead they control things like the amount of 3d surround crap.
- Vestax VCI-100, usb midi interface for DJing. So much fun =) Could use a new crossfader though ><
- Allen&Heath xone headphones. These guys are okay. Got them to replace my beloved sony mdr-v700s, which actually still work, but my scratchy stubble pretty much sanded off the protective padding around the foam cups. I use them at work now, but every time I put them on little tiny pieces of black padding still manage to find their way on to my face and stay there until spork sees them and scratches them off for me.
- MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, I gotta have my natural keyboard. I could type for days on this thing. Sporkii hates it because she's got small hands, but it's the perfect size for mine.
- Fat wallet and cellphone. It's fat with cards, not money crying
- Logitech mx610. This mouse has been a real trooper for me, had it since 2006 I believe (usually my mice die in like a year or two). I used to be a big fan of MS mice, but not since they started implementing some weird and unnecessary middle-click pressure on their higher-end mice that make it impossible to do work in 3D apps (which all rely heavily on MMB).
- Steelseries icemat ii. Love this mouse pad, keeps my hand cool, large surface, easy to clean, looks sweet and matches all my other hardware =)
- KRK 10s subwoofer. This thing shoots out so much bass I have to keep the volume control on the back at the very lowest, and then further reduce it by half using the tone controls on my computer. I still worry about noise leaking through the walls to my neighbors, but at least this way it won't tear a hole through the floor.
- Trusty wacom intuos ii 6x8. Still works just fine!
- The comp..sad that what I paid for in 2007 can get probably twice the power now, though I've done some upgrades...Core2Duo e6750, 4gb ddr2, geforce gtx280 1gb, roughly 1.75tb combined storage between three HDs (plus another 1tb NAS that spork and i share for movies, photos, and other large stuff), sb x-fi elite pro, running windows 7 rc1 64-bit.
- Roland MC-808. My intention for this guy was to use it a sort of music sketchpad, something I could quickly switch on and put down an idea if it came to me. It ended up working out differently, partly because every time I turn it on I have to wait 3 minutes for it to load all my samples into ram, and partly because I usually end up getting too involved in whatever I'm working on and end up putting on all sorts of polish. I actually finished a few tracks with it, which will be on my album set for net release on Sept. 1
- M-Audio Axiom 61. Just a nice flexible midi controller. To save desk space for awhile I was just using an ozone, but after awhile I missed playing big chords, arpeggios and pretty much anything on piano =)
- Stack of DVDs that I have yet to watch.
- Hamster cage XD
- Set of cheap ikea drawers that I keep semi-frequently used things in, MD recorder, microphone, usb cables, screwdriver, screen wiping cloth, video camera...that sort of stuff.
- Unfinished wedding gift thank you notes. Still got like 5 more to write ><
- It's a fuzzy gerbil thing Spork bought for me on etsy. I was going to put it in my cubicle at work but I like it there on my desk for some reason =)
- Wood box that I keep some MD recording stuff in. Though minidiscs are pretty much outdated technology now, I used to use them for field recording samples. Haven't really done that for awhile. It's pretty fun just to walk around with the headphones on and listen to things close up. Like a magnifying glass for your ears!
- Weighted USB hub with too much crap in it. Also, wacom pen!
