Las Vegas Tip #5
Things To See In Vegas

As I said in a previous entry, there's really not much to see in Vegas that you can't find elsewhere. But that's why Las Vegas has done it's best to get a lot of OTHER things you can do besides throw your money into their bank vaults.

The casinos themselves are pretty amazing.

The Luxor is a pyramid-shaped casino that has an egyptian theme and has a beam of light shooting up into the air that can be seen from space.

The Venetian has a GORGEOUS interior and there's a perfume in the air that relaxes you. (I'm not kidding you, two different tour guides even told us they specifically put a perfume into the ventilation to soothe customers.... makes losing all that money a bit more bearable... for a while) wink

Caesar's Palace has a lot of statues and sculptures on the various pillars. There's even people who dress up as living statues, which are pretty convincing. Make sure to tip them. It's hard work doing that.

Madame Tussauds was pretty cool to visit. They have a large number of quite realistic wax statues of various celebrities ranging from classics like Lucille Ball from "I Love Lucy", Sean Connery and Elvis to new stars like Blue Man Group, Brittany Spears and even President Obama.

I swear, I half expected the Hugh Hefner figure to stay up, thank everyone for coming, but he had to get back to the Grotto. razz Same for the Sean Connery and Blue Man Group figures.

Some casinos even have roller coasters or other thrill rides, but I'm a bit too much of a coward to try those. redface

Regardless of what it is, every casino on the strip has something interesting to do besides gamble.

Of course, if you're looking for free entertainment, there's always the Freemont experience, which plays every hour on the hour after 8 PM, broadcasting large AMV-style music videos on the covered ceiling of the strip. Just make sure to have a firm grip on your wallet and/or purse. None of us were robbed, but it's a common tactic by pickpockets to steal when everyone's distracted. I wouldn't be shocked to hear how many wallets and/or purses are lifted daily from there.

You might hear that it's possible to have all sorts of free things in Las Vegas, such as free drinks, free shows, etc. but to be honest, most of those require you to do a lot more running up and down the strip than most people would probably want to bother with. And most probably require you to spend money before you get anything "free".
