She knelt at the waters edge looking down into its abyss, the frothing liquid lapping at her bare feet. The salt air tickled her nose while the wind caressed her hair. A gull screamed. Jarred from her trance she looked at the sky and saw the gull swoop down above the water before taking off towards the horizon. How she longed to fly like a bird. An endless adventure and new discoveries everyday; never worrying about how to get somewhere. You just simply...go.
Turning her attention back to the water she wraps her arms around her legs, resting her head in the groove of her knees her mind wanders. Like a bird she soars over the vast ocean. The wind beneath her wings cradles her like a babe as her instincts lead her on. She has no set plan. The feel of this boundless freedom sends shivers from head to toe. Arching her wings she dives to towards the water. The rushing wind exciting her all the more. Pulling up short the sea lightly sprays her face, she tilts to he left and barely glides a wing over the rolling water.
Before she knows it the water disappears and sand replaces its cool embrace. Tumbling head over heels she comes to a stop dazed and confused. Lifting her head a dull throb vibrates through her veins; she shifts her wings only to find that they were gone. Replaced instead by human hands. She pulls them forward and looks at her palms. Thin, fine tapered fingers stare back at her as she ponders where they had come from. More importantly, where was she?
Raising her head the wind grabs her hair and masks her face, it was stronger now. More violent. She struggles to bat away the bothersome things. They were relentless. She'd brush a lock and three more would replace the previous; they seemed to mock her. Denying her the ability to observe and reason.
