Stereotypes
I'm BOARD so i'll talk about this!!!!!! XD
One thing that annoys me more than anything else is IGNORANT PEOPLE!!! Thats right I said it, close minded, hypocritical: all words synonymous with ignorance! And no, when I say ignorant im not talking about someone who is just book dumb (although theres alot of those out there too ^_^ ), but Im specifically making reference to people who cant get past stereotypes and labels!! We DO NOT live in a black and white world! So why is it that there are so many people out there who insist on giving everything and everybody a label?
Misconception 1: Good-Looking People arent Smart
What the hell? Just because somebody was genetically blessed with the genes that make them physically attractive does NOT automatically mean that they're dumb!!! I know PLENTY of people (guys and girls) that are attractive and alot smarter than the average person!! Whenever I meet somebody and I tell them what kind of grades I make and I let it drop that Im in AP Calculus, they look at me like I just said I had 5 heads and a tattoo of Chewbacca on my behind! Look at people like: Iman (model and entrepreneur), Coretta Scott King (wife of MLK, and political activist), Alicia Keys (got a masters from Juliard), Sharon Stone (an IQ of 154, aka GENIUS). Those are a just a couple of celebrities. The valedictorian of our class is gorgeous, and believe it or not some of the only good-looking males at my school are in AP classes. Im not saying that all pretty people are smart, shows like Beauty and the Geek, could n** that theory in the bud anyway. But not all of them are dumb either, so forget that theory! Now, on too.....
Misconception 2: Skinny People are Anorexic
This gets to me more than any thing above!! Just because somebody is naturally petite/thin/small dosent mean that they have an eating disorder!!! "Aww baby your so little, you need something to eat" STOP. There is a HUGE difference between being petite and being anorexic/bulimic. Just because Im not as big as some does not mean that I have an eating disorder!! In fact, from my observation "skinny" people eat about twice as much as the average person (and no, they dont always throw it up). This myth is getting really old really fast, and it needs to be stopped. Go on the internet and type in anorexic, and I can garrente you that you'll find a picture of someone who is literally 1/4 of my size!! So GET OVER THAT!
Misconception 3: All Criticism is a Form of "Hating"
There is a false misconception that constructive criticism is somehow a way to hate on somebody! uh.....NO!! If you ask me a question (i.e: Does my hair look cute) and your weave is looking like some alien life form, DO NOT get upset when I let you know that. By asking someone for their opinion your opening yourself up to them giving you just that....their opinion. If you dont want to know the truth, then DONT ask!! It really is that simple. Pulling somebody aside and letting them know that they need to wear less makeup because they look like some sort of stung out Barbie doll is NOT hating. Thats a way of trying to help somebody. Now, HATING would be somebody telling that same person: "Girl, I dont know why you trying to wear all that makeup, you know cant fix ugly!." Get It???
Misconception 4: "Popular People Have Lots of Friends"
I always have people ask me why I only claim to have a few friends at Dreher, even though Im "popular" ( I use this term loosely, and you'll see why). Yea, Im familiar with alot of people, and I guess you could say that alot of people know me scratch that, alot of people know of me. I define popularity as being someone who is always in the public eye. And its been my experience that the more popular you become the harder it is to keep old friends, much less make new ones. Friends are people you confide in and tell your secrets to, whereas associates are those people that you may speak to in the hall, but would never bother to have a serious conversation with if you converse at all. Popular people have to deal with someone always trying to be in their business (very similar to the way papparazi and tabloids treat celebrities), judge them, and of course they have to deal with jealousy (which normally comes in the form of a two-faced person that smiles and praises you to your face then calls you a crazy, stuck up hoe behind your back, but i'll address that next). So although popular people may have alot of associates that doesnt necessarily mean that they have alot of friends. So that is definitly false.
Misconception 5: "Haters and Pretenders are the same"
For all those that did not know, haters and pretenders have only one thing in common, they both have no lives of there own, and therefore they thrive to talk about other people. My definition of a hater is someone who puts other people down constantly, and never bothers to look at his/her own flaws, typically a hater cant handle criticism but they can dish it for days. A pretenderon the other hand is somebody who hates on the downlow. One minute a pretender will be your be in your face frontin like they're your best friend, and as soon as you walk away, they start actin like they have diarrea of the mouth. A hater may or may not not even bother to pretend that they like you, whereas a pretender is probably somebody who is too scared to tell you what they think of you to your face directly.
These are my words, and if you dont like it, your probably one of the ignorant people that are being addressed in this particular blog, and I will be adding to this list as things come up. DEUCES!! ^_^
