This whole prop 8 passing thing has bummed me out beyond all belief. It's actually getting in the way of the rest of my life, which is even more bumming...
In any case, while stalking the facebook pages of some people I highly respect (*coughDnDmatescough*) and they said some things on the subject that I really agree with. Since I happen to feel completely inarticulate when it comes to this particular subject, I thought I'd quote them here...
One said,
"You can try to justify your position however you want, but that doesn't change the fact that you support and voted for something that says in the very first line, "Eliminates right of same-sex couples to marry." However you say it, it still means that you voted to eliminate people's rights."
Another said in response to that,
"If your hetero-marriage doesn't feel special and sacred, gay-bashing isn't going to bring the magic back. The proponents of 8 should try bringing home flowers more often."
I want to DO something about this. I have never wanted to become an activist more in my entire life. I can think of few things that made me happier than the legalization of gay marriage, and few things have upset me as much as seeing those rights taken away.
It's so strange. Right now, I feel so proud to be an American, but so disgusted to be a Californian. I always thought it was the rest of the country that was closed minded and shitty, but now I find out that it's not everyone else: I'm living among them.
Anyway... I should stop rambling now and keep sewing my cute little dress.
