A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
On the Election
I think the reality of the Presidential Election is starting to sink in. It dawned on me, that in a few short months, the Constitution could be back in effect. Imagine habeas corpus back in effect. Imagine prisoners home from Guantanamo Bay. Imagine the rest. Six months from now, troops could be coming home to their families and their interrupted jobs and educations. Imagine us reinvesting the money being wasted on War in schools and health care and rebuilding infrastructure.

Imagine having someone in the White house interested in moving forward instead of stifling descent. Imagine not having to worry every time someone in congress of the White house accused the rest of us for being unpatriotic or UnAmerican simply for disagreeing, for wanting the Bill of Rights back, for wanting to make this country better instead of wallowing in greed and fear.

I want my country back, damnit. More than that, I missed the ideal that our constitution represented. I missed substance over form.

I am tired of feeling ashamed every time I turn on the news and see what horror my government has decided to impose on us or the rest of the world. I am tired of the endless downward spiral. I am tired of being afraid of what my president will do next, what congress will do next. I am tired of having to explain the crazy to my international friends.

When I look at all those elderly women of colour weeping for joy because they never thought they'd live to see this day, it is hard not to weep with them.

It is really starting to look like for once in my life, I can have a President I could actually be proud of while he's in office.

Today I was watching little kids on the diving board while doing my hot tub PT. It was the usual mix of PNW kids, mostly white with some native, Latino/a kids, and Asians mixed in. There was one absolutely beautiful little African American girl on the board as I turned, solemnly setting up her dive. We Xers grew up with the lie that we could all be president, and the disillusionment that followed when it was always just another corrupt old white man. For her generation, it may really be true.

How cool is that?
