Beware of the fangirl...The diary of a Gaian.
This is the diary of Dawna Celeste, just another ordinary Gaian...or is she?
Olympic glory.
This is so much fun! I didn't think I'd do well in the madcap mayhem that is the Olympics (Rejected? Rejected by who? Not me or Sally!), but I really am. It's clearly not cheating for a non-human to compete, what with all the supernatural creatures in the games, so I joined Team Durem. I wasn't sure of the safety of it at first, but Gambino's running the Isle team, and I was not joining Barton with Leon on the team! Pity, since I would have liked to be on the same team as Ian and Rufus...but I cannot risk the safety of Cindy and Sally to indulge a fangirlish whim! Speaking of Cindy, she looks absolutely stunning in her tracksuit, and Sally made the comment that she should wear it more often "instead of that frumpy old suit."
So, I'm competing for Durem, trying to balance out the difficulties inherent in having a team with a lot of vampires on it. I did see Louie tonight (or rather, last night), and we had a rather nice chat about the events. He'd watched me washing dogs, cars, and Liam (I almost walked out on that one, but the feather-brained lump of slime behaved himself!), so he jokingly asked if I'd rather wash him. Ignoring Sally's giggles, I told him with a straight face that I'd really prefer to let my damp, soapy fingers graze his brother's bullet scar as I washed him...but that in his absence, I'd rather wash the Count Von Helson than Liam. Sally hooted with laughter and said "I see where this is 'eaded...you're saying that you 'ave to pretend to think 'e's a blooming snobby toff, but soon you'll be snogging, and then shag..." Despite the accent, I caught what she was saying and swung at her, my face flaming, and she skipped off, laughing. Louie laughed as well, and wandered off.
Well, later he complimented me on my vacuming and shooting skills, and we commiserated a bit about our shared atrociousness at anything involving driving. I'm not sure where the conversation took a serious turn, but at some point he said "Dawna, I would like to make sure you know that I am a vampire and will always be one. And...I will not marry a human, nor love one. I will not repeat my father's mistakes."
I'd found out quite a bit about the tragic story of his, Ian's, and Gino's mother, so I understood entirely. "It's quite fine," I said. "I really don't have any intentions toward you, no matter what Sally says. I'm human, and human I stay...and I really have no attraction to vampires." Realizing that could sound offensive, I hurriedly added "Not that I don't like you, I just don't love you, and I never could. And I'm not one for marriages of convenience."
"Just engagements of convenience?" Louie asked, raising an eyebrow. "No matter, that's where I draw the line as well. Speaking of which, I think you should wear that sparkler here, as your father may be around. Of course, he might not recognize you, with all the tattoos and the hair. Elemental magic, isn't it? I've always liked that sort of thing." I felt my face burn again as I fiddled with my hair, which was masses of green rolling down my back, festooned with branches and butterflies, and with a flower hairpin and a silk daisy adding to the effect.
It's only now that I remembered that I'm not actually human! I'll bet Louie thought my gills were just more tattoos (yes, I got a red heart just above the scarred gill, to try to make me look more like an ink-mad human and less like the hybrid I am). Come to think of that, perhaps I did get too many tattoos since the mess with the sea-people. My arms are a webwork of ink, and it's encroaching on my chest and stomach...I only got the brown "S" (for Sally) on my chest just after we were released, and I have gold tribal tattoos on my belly. My legs are the only place untouched, so far... I wonder what the significance of all the tattoos is? Am I trying to hide my true self, or entrap it?
