Thread of the Week time, suckas.
RisingShadow's Farewell Contest
This just blew me away. One day, in GCD, I stumbled upon this thread, and moved it to the Writing Contests forum.
An old user named RisingShadow was leaving Gaia, and was trying to determine the best way to disperse his stuff. His answer? A writing contest. The prize? A Devil Tail, a Dec 2003 letter, and a pair of Slipper letters. But while the contest was fun (I entered, made the finals, and got an honorable mention. I also won the riddle competition in a team effort with Phanta.) what really shocked me was the community. Many of the contestants hung around the thread a lot while online, and it became a new home for us for the next 10 days or so.
The winners deserved it, but there once RS had printed out all the entries, they spanned over 200 pages. Formatted into a book that would probably be around 500-600 pages depending on binding and layout. A truly staggering number. RS checked in on his rapidly growing thread on a daily basis, and chatted with the competitors. I even organized a momentary charity to give eyepatches to anyone who wanted to wear one in honor of RS but who didn't have the gold to buy one. My final count was 6. biggrin
At any rate, the entries are phenomenal. If you want to get some nice reading done about a nice man, check this thread out. Definitely worth your time.
