Chronicles of a Filandrythian
A mysterious red leather book, that seems to want you to read it.
This is pretty old, but I don't want to lose it
Kale’edra sighed, brushing a strand of hair from his face. He was trying to prove to the other he was ready to become an Adept. At the tender age of fifteen, he already understood why people were rude to him; they thought he was stuck up, a snob, being from the noble Valynthial family. This annoyed him, he’d much rather have friends than rank. The apprentice focused his magic on the rock. Concentrate; picture what you want, and use magic to make it real. He pictured a flower, a black orchid in particular. Murmuring an incantation, he focused his magic energy and released it on the rock, which changed into a black orchid. “I did it? I did it!” he laughed; transformation spells were extremely difficult and was the type of spell required to go beyond the apprentice rank. “Wow! Kale did it!” voices rang out through the other apprentices “Never thought the snob would be able to do it, guess he proved me wrong.” He smiled, maybe now they would accept him as a friend, and ignore his rank.
“It’s no big deal; it’s just a transformation spell. Any Adept can use one.” Ledren said with a smirk. The only Adept of the school, Ledren thought he was better than everyone else. Kale scowled. “I’m not an Adept, just an apprentice. This is a big achievement for me.” “Whatever, I’m just saying what is true. If apprentices make such a big deal over little transformation spells, they will never become good Adepts, nor will they ever go past the rank of Adept.”
“That’s enough Ledren.” Master Vessan said as he seemingly appeared out of thin air. Tall and slender, with the characteristic pointed elfin ears, with bright blue eyes and thick black hair, Demetrius Vessan was a prime example of the Kal’a’sied race. “Congratulations on a spell well cast, Kale’edra. I’m glad to call you an Adept.” His musical voice startled Kale.
“What?! How did he get to become an Adept?! He’s only been here a week!” Ledren was shocked and angry.
“He’s showed amazing skill and potential. Quite unusual for a child of the Valynthial, seeing as they are a family of swordsmen.” This caused Ledren to scowl. “Of course, that is not the only reason. Kale’edra has proved himself to be an amazing magic user. He has the potential to become a great Wardskeeper or Runeskeeper, perhaps even a Master or a Magic Swordsman.”
“I… don’t know what to say…” Kale was surprised “I’ve always thought of myself as an amateur, I thought father was joking when he registered me here, to show that I wasn’t good enough, so that I’d return home and train to be a swordsman.”
“Your father is a smart man for sending you here” Demetrius said, smiling. “I am pleased that I have another student to train personally, rather than occasionally through an entire group.” Ledren scoffed.
“I hope I am a good enough student to learn from you, Master Vessan.
