Dear Sergio,
The Pledge of Allegiance.
As I was walking to my guidance councilors office I heard a guy say "Come over here, Poe." So I walked over to where this teacher was sitting in the hall way, I do not have him as a teacher but he usually comes into my Business Law class to use the computers and I have debated with him before so we have been acquainted.

I do a pretty good job avoiding trouble so I figured he wanted to just ask my opinion about something but it turned out to be bigger than that.

So anyway, Mr. Cogdail says:

"Poe, I heard you do not stand up for the pledge of allegiance. Is this true?"

Upon me affirming that the gossip going around amongst the teachers (apparently) was true he immediately asked "Why?"
So I explained to him, aside from me having the right to remain seated while The Pledge is being voiced over the loud speaker, I do not believe in certain parts that are being said so I do not feel the need to stand up and mindlessly repeat something every day that I do not believe in. I also assured him that I do not mean any disrespect by it.

But then he said said "By sitting down you are insulting the very founders and fighters of this country and everyone other citizen. You are saying that you do not believe in liberty or justice for all, you are saying that you do not support or recognize your individual rights. I would think that you of all people would support such ideals!"
... Bla bla bla. And, "The pledge is not saying that THERE IS liberty and justice for all it means that in this country fulfills it's

I said "I do believe in liberty and justice, I just do not believe that it is given to all. By sitting down I do not mean to insult/offend YOU, or anyone else."

Then he started talking about capitalism and how capitalism equals democracy and how BECAUSE of capitalism we are free and the political ideology that I like is made to oppress people.

He also made a point I had to think about. He said that the pledge is not stating that there is liberty and justice for all but it is the recognition of it and that is is a "belief statement". But now that I think of it that is not what it's saying! The pledge says "WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL" it does not say "THE IDEAL OF" or "IN THE FUTURE ESSENCE OF". [rolleyesgifhere]

Then he went on about soldiers and how they died for our freedom, how I'm disrespecting them by sitting down and my intention on not offending anyone is not what matters.

Well I defended my point and I'm not ready to stand up just because I'm offending him. I'm quite sure that there are things he stands for that offends me but his opinions and what he stands for is a matter of his personal conjecture. Besides I respect him standing up, I don't talk about how blind I may think he is or how stupid he is for believing the words being said, so he should respect my decision not to stand.

Good job Poe it's good to see people who don't get ******** brainwashed into just joining the mindless activities of these citizens, they don't even think about what they're doing or why they're doing it, they just do it like trained guinea pigs I love it. :

Tell that guy to ******** off. :]

or better yet!! Tell him by asserting your views upon me your the one who is insulting our founding fathers as they believed in Freedom of beliefs and speech. :]

Yeah! I know Omie! It pisses me off that people cannot even THINK for themselves! It's pretty ridiculous.

Ah! So good. I thought about that when I got home. I wish I remembered. But he told me to "Think about" what he said so he's probably going to keep coming into my class to see if I have had a change of hear so maybe I'll bring it up.

You know what I think the worse part of all is though? For a couple of minutes I was upset. Like the things he said upset me and made me feel bad that he thought I was intentionally offending and insulting him. I went and talked about it with my favorite History teacher to see if he thought I was wrong too (because upon debating with the teacher two other teachers stopped and were agreeing with him and I don't know, I felt attacked and I get really nervous, flustered and frustrated) and while speaking to my favorite History teacher I felt like I was going to cry like my eyes got all teary. I DON'T KNOW WHY THOUGH. Ugh. I rarely EVER cry for anything. WTF? I bet now my teacher thinks I'm a wuss.
cry

OMG Poe!! Argghh Gosh Poe don't even bother listening to the guy next time that moron talks to you just honestly do this IGNORE HIM!! If he's bothering you IGNORE HIM!!

You don't have to talk to him and he can come by and see you not stand for the pledge and be all Pissed off for no reason about it, and either way he can't do s**t about that! If he tries talking to you next time just keep walking and tell him your busy and if he insists you should tell his superior that he's harassing you. Because he is. ********' tard.

Get one of your outspoken friends to yell at this guy for you, I know I sure as hell would, it's getting me angry just reading you write that. T-T

Seriously. sad I don't wanna hear that you were getting all teary eyed.

I guess. I mean HE DID make me go 35 minutes late to class and I got marked absent and they called my parents and my mom found out at like 6 and she got angry because she thought I ditched school. xD But if that teacher does talk to me again I'm not going to stay down there. No wayyy. D< That jerk.

Ugh. These freaking teachers. They think they know everything. rolleyes

We cannot tell off teachers! Besides I do not think that they do good with these things. Hopefully he will finally respect my decision and leave me alone. D<

Aw. You're so kind Omie. But it's fine!
I will learn to be stronger!
