What lay in my heart....
What lay hidden in my heart leapt to my lips today...
An arrow resting somewhere in my heart has found its bow today....
I spent most of the following days trying to find something to do around the village. Finrod would make many visits in a day and I soon grew tired of going with him. Angrod was interested in the Atani craftsmen, so I went with him for a while. That proved to be more exciting, but they were more interested in learning new techniques rather than learning about materials. So most of the days I just sat under a tree and observed the village life. I cannot deny that I looked forward to seeing Andreth walk by as she did her daily tasks.

Why I was so drawn to her, I do not know. I had thought she was beautiful the night I met her and I still did, but it was plain to see that by Elven standards she would not have been considered a beautiful elleth. And yet I could hardly take my eyes off her. I think it had something to do with the apparently fragility of her hroa... and the wisdom in the eyes. For she was wise indeed and she delighted in having long philosophical discussions with Finrod and learning with him.

I was present at most of their meetings out of some irrational feeling of being left out. I have to admit they bored me for the most part sweatdrop . I had nothing relevant to add to the discussion so I just sat there in silence and watched them talk. I do not recall ever feeling envious of Finrod before, but as he told her all about the wonders of the Valar and the Eldar, I could not help feeling rather inadequate. Most of my knowledge of those matters had been taught to me rather informally by my father, my mother or by Finrod himself. And here I was wishing I had actually went to earn Laurels with the Vanyar instead of with Lord Aule. And why? So I could impress this Atani girl and have long discussions with her.

What felt the strangest was this need to compete with Finrod. It had been very clear since we were children that he was the loremaster of us all and that he was well versed in literature and philosophy. Artanis had followed his footsteps, but she was concerned with other matters too... I don't even remember all the subjects Artanis studied.

I had overhead Angrod asking Finrod about the nature of his relationship with Andreth, but his answer was vague (when isn't Finrod vague??? stressed rolleyes ). I think he said he enjoyed being her "teacher" or something along those lines. I am unsure if that excludes a romantic relationship. Whatever happened with the Vanya girl Finrod was seeing in Tirion, I wonder. He never told us the full story, just some vague comments...
