"Make your bed before you go out!" she heard her mother call out to her. "I'll do it when I come back!" she shouted back as the sweet smell of spring greeted her nostrils and the warmth of the sun bathed her spreckled face. She looked out over the daisy-filled pastures of her homeland for but a brief moment, before her dainty feet set in motion. Her young body catapulted itself over the dirt road just outside the garden that surrounded the small country home she lived in. The same home her father had built for his family so many years ago. Feeling the rush that always came over her as she felt the wind run through her copperblonde hair, her mouth opened in a wide grin as she yelled out a victory cry for no apparent reason, sending a murder of crows up into the sky.
"Karan!" a boy called out to her, but she ran past him like he was one of the scarecrows placed left and right on the farmlands she ran towards. "Karan, wait up!" he called again, stumbling after her. She sighed and slowed down a bit to have him catch up to her, folding her arms underneath the soft swell of her growing bosom. "Good Juvesday Levon." she greeted with an undertone of annoyance to her voice. Having caught up on it, he hesitated a moment before opening his mouth in a whisper; "Have you heard of old man Garain?" she shook her head, "They say he died last night. They say there's blood all over the inside of his cabin. But there's no sign of old man Garain or his body." he continued, glancing around him as if fearing someone might overhear his words. Karan raised an eyebrow and glanced over the fields to where the shadows of the forest started. The forest where old man Garain had lived since Karan could remember.
"So," Levon said, "wanna go check it out?" Karan returned her attention to the boy while putting her hands on her hips and frowning at him. "Are you crazy? If my mom found out, I'd get to clean up the stables for a month!" she snorted, but her eyes were drawn to the dark brim of the forest as she spoke. "On the other hand..." she mused, thinking back to what Levon said before. "If they didn't find a body, how would they know he was dead anyway?" she reasoned, to which Levon grinned. "Exactly my thought! So.. up for it?" A quick nod from Karan was enough to send the boy racing towards the forest! "Whomever gets there last has to eat a snail!" he called out as he ran away, Karan following hot on his tail.
