Fwah
Journal Number 9: No Man's Land.

I have read several books by Kevin Major. He did a fine job capturing the war. The vived description of the billets, the food, the actives, and the love that sparked between the men and the towns people. I think the description in the book is propbably the high point. And probably one of the better parts of this novel.
But I cannot say I like it all. I, my self, use this type of descriptive writing, but the way that it is worded here, is a little confusing. When there are conversational moments, it is hard to depicked who is talking and at what time. At times, I found my self confused who was talking, and just assuming by who started the conversation and who was with him; only to realize after there had been a thrid person. Making me return to the passage to read it again.
Also, I found the fact that he started with one person as his protaganist, then switching back and forth, but then shifting to the second protagnist a little more, slightly bothersome and confusing, but all the same creating suspense for the audience, and fore shadowing the fact that something was going to happen to Hayward, as the protaganist role was being shifted over to Martin.
Kevin Major seemed to put a great deal of impute and detail into describing his chapters leading up to the trenchs, giving us a great deal of detail. But at the last few chapters, it all seems a little rushed and very anti cilmatic because the entire book is leading up to them coming, and then either the matter of ten or twenty pages, he rushes through the climax, leaving only a very small answer to what happens to Martin, not even telling us what happened to him when he got to the aid post. We are not told if he lived or died.
