Well, I read the main prequels to the Star Wars book that A New Hope was based on. I suppose I could read "A New Hope" but I just don't feel like it. The main thing I enjoyed about the prequels is that it explains how Darth Vader came about.
But Star Wars books are too serious, and so I turned next to two Terry Pratchett books that I already read once before. I need something new to read.
And my daughter is reading some authors from the fourth grade reading list (even though she's reading at a higher grade level.) I read two of them myself and was very impressed with them. One was "The Van Gogh Cafe," by Cynthia Rylant. The other was "Keeper of the Doves," by Betsy Byers. The reason I read my daughter's books is so we can talk about them together. I especially want to point out some of the abstract concepts such as symbolism and irony, maybe because I had such a hard time of it when I was young.
