I've noticed some things when both buying and selling in the exchange forum. Here are some tips on how to succeed in selling your exchange items.
1. Sell below marketplace price This is a must. Whether people are in the marketplace or at the exchange forum, they go to get a good deal - even if they really badly want a certain item. Sure - you might be lucky and get a person willing to pay regular price, but this happens very rarely. You can state a price you want to sell at, but it's better not to. Show that you're open to haggling. Of course you can set a bar for how much you sell your items for - feel free to tell people that you're not taking ridiculous offers - but be open. The general exchange population looks for better deals than the marketplace population. Many, many people that go to the exchange forum are vendors looking to buy in bulk at discounted prices.
2. Speaking about selling in bulk... If you have multiples of items, more people will offer to buy more items at once. Having only one of an item sends the signal that you'll be less open to haggling. And, it also means that people will have to battle other bidders in order to only get a chance at a single item.
3. Be reachable If you're willing to accept PMs, say so. When you get online, say so in your thread title (put a label that's something like "[ONLINE]" wink - it lets people know that you're accessible. That said, if you *are* online, stay updated with your thread. Bump it, respond quickly (most ESPECIALLY if you claim you'll be a quick responder), and trade quickly. That not only makes your customers happy, but allows you to sell faster. Put it in your thread title that you respond quickly ("QUICK RESPONSE" wink , and stay true to that promise. If you're online but not too available (like if you're dealing with loads of PMs offering to buy items), say so in the thread and keep people updated. You're not gonna get many customers (or many happy customers either) if you're never there.
4. (Added 6.22) If you're selling letters... List what's in the letters. So very convenient, and happy customers equals more customers! ^_^
That's all I can think of for now. Any comments or suggestions? Feel free to add 'em :]
