Rain.

Thats all it seemed to do lately, as the wolfess watched the droplets hit the terra outside the den one by one. The world had turned a shade darker from the moisture, the birds had stopped singing as all Bindi could listen to was the sounds of the rain; and of course the other occupant in the den with her. She could feel his stare on her sick body, her once beautiful and sunny pelt now dappled and partially consumed by what looked like fireclouds in the sky. In reality though they were sickening sores, tinning the hair which they lay beneith so all could be seen was her decaying flesh. One brilliant sky blue eyes were dulling to a fog grey with only the slightest ting of blue....she had become something close to a monster; a hideous, dying monster. Luckily her own mother wasn't here to see her now, she wasn't too sure even she could love her now. Bindi had forbid even her own children up to the den now as she remained far away from any curious eyes of her packmates. It would kill her sooner if she caused her loving pack any more worry then they were already stressing about, even though everyone was aware something was up - she at least kept the part of her dying exclusive to only a few wolves.

Blinking slowly, the wolfess pulled her head over to the side to cast a tired glance at the wolf currently talking at her side. Normally she would have been estatic to have company, but even the pure hearted intentions of Juude couldn't rouse her from her spot. Attempting a smile despite the pain which tore through her body, the gesture looked more like a grimace then anything, which only made things worse for her mate's cousin.

Whining softly, Juude padded over to the grotesque female and nudged her maw lightly, smiling sadly. "Take it easy Dudette...you don't gotta move for the likes of me." Sitting down beside her in the empty cave, he had taken it upon himself to watch her each day while Dax tended to the pack...not to mention caring for his own family, to which is darling Princess was in the same predicament; save an earlier stage. It broke his heart that the three most treasured wolves in his life was in a world of pain and suffering and he could do nothing but idlly stand by and watch them. Despite the fact Juude has always been the more childish of the pack, even more than some of the pups...life had grown up what seemed to be the eternal child. She won't last much longer... Johab spoke solemnly in Juude's mind, wearing down the smile on his maw to a quiet expression. Are you sure...? Maybe she'll bounce back....Princess has those often. Its like she isn't sick. He suggested, yet knew his hopes were merely wishful thinking. When you've been alive as long as I, Juude, You'd know. Amarii also hasn't exerted herself as much as Bindi or Dax while carrying the disease. Its grown faster on them. Davon has kept Dax strong, which is why he isn't suffering as bad. Bindi has no such luck; she is on her own and I am impressed she has lasted this long. She must be in tremendous pain, and still will not show it infront of anyone. Johab concluded, with a sigh. She won't survive her next fit.

"Damnit!!" Juude cursed, slamming his paw against the ground as his head hung low. His chest shook lightly as he attempted not to cry, even though he was horribly failing as his vision began to blurr. "You can't go.....Bindi you just can't!" Looking up at her slowly, it broke his heart further to see a serene smile on her maw as she lay helplessly on the terra. He would have given anything to see her up and about, telling him the bugs wern't out to get him or that he should be paying more attention to the pups he was supposed to be sitting. All with that warm and bright smile on her maw...even when being scolded he felt he could never be down after being around her. But now...the smiles were gone, much like the current weather her personality had been blocked out by the clouds of her plauge.

"Juude....don't." Bindi spoke as softly as she could, her lungs already burned thanks to how her thinned blood barely reached her oragans anymore. Each breath was a challenge to settle her pained nerves, her shallow and ragged breathing giving more meaning to her pathetic state. "You and I both know its time. I have lived long, and fully....its only right that now its my turn. I've been living on borrowed time, afterall.....this plauge could have taken me a lot sooner." Stay strong, old girl. Bindi thought sadly, looking up to the crying Juude. He needed to stay strong, for wisdom knew that he would have to experience this twice more before he would have emotional peace once again. Although then he would have all of them stripped from his life...it was then Bindi took note of something. Never would she know the pain he would...she was selfishly telling him to be strong when she would be the first to die....not having to worry to see her dying mate, her crying children, her mourning pack.....her dear Amarii to whom she gave the plauge to. "Now...." Bindi breathed out, heaving her burning body up to her paws with a soft whine as she moved forth and nuzzled Juude; for the last time. "Go. Your family needs you now. Take care of everyone for me okay? I'm counting on you." She placed on the best smile she could as she nudged Juude to the cave enterance.

"Bindi...." He breathed out, the tears uncontrollably streaming down his cheeks before he nodded reluctantly. She probably wished to save him the torture of her death, so she wanted to get him out now while he still had the chance. As much as it hurt to do so, he nodded sadly and nuzzled her back for all it was worth before moving out into the pouring rain. At least here no one could tell his tears from raindrops. "Goodbye..." He choked slightly, turning and running down the mountian slope back to the packlands below. Knowing in his heart he would never see her alive again.

Opening his blue eyes to the world as his body stood and padded out to catch glimpse inside the den, a sad smile crept on his maw to see his mother staring out into the world. Normally he would have been at her side in a heartbeat, never leaving for a moment....but even to have her son there, he knew that she would keep on her strong front when she needed to fully accept her fate. Not that he wished her to die....that was not the case at all. Yet he had inherited his father's silent but thoughtful demeanor and his mother's kindness and understanding. Naturally....he was devastated yet knew as much as she that life needed to move on; no matter how much one wished otherwise. Thus, he had stayed hidden outside the cave to keep silent watch on her and make sure no one who was unwanted got close to her. He would stay here, feircely loyal untill her last breath....he was not leaving this spot.

That is untill....

Bindi's cold eyes widened, terror shot through her body as again she was plauged with the images of her mother's death. Lately thats all she had been seeing....which usually was the start of her fits; her body unable to handle the stress of her hallucinations. With a choking gasp, her body began to shake violently with tremors, as she lowered herself to the ground carefuly. As the blood began to drip from her jaws, Bindi's eyes hazed lightly as her mind raced. No....no, it can't be! Not now.....This fit is much too strong, I....I won't see another..... Her breathing had become hoarse, her heart was racing and with each pump came another wave of pain as she shut her eyes tight trying to will it all away. She.....she...

...she was going to die.

Taking a few timid steps foreward, the young adolecent; one of the latter litters from Bindi and Dax, seeing as some of his siblings were already far into their adulthood, knew it was time. Panicing slightly, he tore down the hillside in a bluur of black and sunny stripes....ice blue orbs glitering with fear and adrenalin. Time was running out and he knew if his mother liked he hoped....now more than ever she would want - no, need Dax there. Despite the fact that he too had contracted the plauge, his father was strong with Davon...yet he too was losing the battle. Once in the valley as his paws carried him swiftly and silently across the woods, he let out a howl for all he was worth....

Father....please...be near.

He sat there, slumped upon his haunches as the rain- the tears of those of the past, the fallen wolves of the pack and loved ones who had fallen in the many wars that had been fought throughout his lifetime, fell from the sky as those above had been witnessing what was befalling their alphas, their leaders, their friends. That fateful days of blood and fangs had left its slow, painful sting upon him as well as his mate, Bindi. It had been a slow, gradual process that neither was aware of until their strength, staminia and appearace were slowly deteriorating. The proud alpha was condemned to witness his beloved, beautiful mate succumb to being pained into watching her wither away, day by day, month by month, as her blonde and sunny pelt had become pink and raw with the wounds that the plauge had lathered her body with. She was thin, weak and her life was slipping away...she was slipping away from him. Bindi- he was losing her. His maw had latched upon the wrong wolf and the blood of the one who was infected with the devastating disease had trickled into his maw; the bitter taste oozing upon his tongue and into the back of his throat. He had become contaminated and his days were numbered as well. Unlike his mate whose suffering was much worse and which thought of her torment could only make him cringe and his heart break, Davon had kept him strong. The once feared and savage demon within him had become his greatest ally and a formidable strength that had aided him in battle, in war and as well as leading a prestigious pack alongside his mate. Scars from sores and those which were raw and fleshy were scattered across his body, barely visible and hidden within his jet black fur whose presence was rivaled with the white swirls that drapped from his back. Dax hadn't lost significant weight nor had his stature deminished but it was obvious to those who knew him well that the alpha's overall stamina had drastically changed and the pains from sores and the degenerating muscles and his failing organs caused him to wince, to snarl and pin his ears against his head hoping the pain would wash over him quickly. But such sounds that drew from his maw often caused those around him to turn heads, to whimper and bit their lips. They knew that he was suffering but, sadly, how were they to comfort an alpha whose time to depart from this life was growing nearer each day? Whose life, just like his mates, was slipping away right through their own paws and as gently as the passing breeze through the boughs of the great oaks? They were powerless. Knitting his brows as the rain continued to fall, its small droplets dousing his hide with moisture and causing him to wince as the water collided with open sores. Pain seemed to cause his muzzle to bunch up and a small growl to slip out from his maw but he couldn't let that stop him. "Aeryn, Ezekiel, Kairi, Kodi, Tasu, Xeno, Kaizen, Tavor," he gruffly spoke, his voice worn and audible with great compassion, respect and love for his dearest and closest friends. "Time is short," he began biting his lower lip as he could feel his lip quiver, his paws shaking as his ears pinned against his skull. But he could feel Davon pawing at his mind, pleading for him to stay strong- To see their alpha, their leader cry will only make it worse, Dax. Be strong for them, be strong. Death is only the begining, my friend. Time is coming to an end. Sparse tears began to trail from his eyes that were once vibrant with bluest blue that were now subjected to fog and haze, down his face that was slightly aged with grey fur and scars that lathered his muzzle and adorned his face. He choked them back, standing erect as his tail rose behind him in the alpha status. His beloved friends couldn't help but let their emotions beset their own mood as not one of them spoke but tears also seeped from their eyes and trailed down their cheeks. The knowledge of Bindi's condition had been evident from the begining and their overall morale had shifted slightly but, for the sake of the pack, they were to not let that affect their work. But it was easier said then done. And now with the realization that both Bindi and Dax were slipping away, they were losing not only their alpha but treasured friends whose influence, whose legacy had reshaped the lives of many and generations of wolves. Tasubaa sat in silence, eyes settled warmly upon his alpha while Xeno, his son, sat beside him. Ezekiel and Kaira, brother and sister, sat beside them. Kairis' eyes were streaming with tears as she whimpered softly, her face buried within her brothers oddly pattered fur while Eze hid away his eyes with his long, swayed locks of hair that drapped before his right eye. Kodi nestled alongside Tasubaa as her eyes weren't shy of tears and glistened as they began to weep. Kaizen was haunched over, biting down on his bottom lip as emotions, memories and moments where Dax had saved his hide from trouble seemed to bombard his mind. The faithful and honorable lynx, Tavor, nestled against his old friend, Kaizen, as he too couldn't control the tears that welted from his eyes. Off to the side, Aeryn gritted her teeth, ears flat against her head as she stared at the ground. She couldn't- no, she didn't feel worthy to look into his eyes, her own cousins eyes. She had committed treason, a sin and she had never forgiven herself and a sin that had caused Dax pain and great sadness. Words were hard to muster and the great alpha rose to his paws, nuzzling against each one and planting a lick upon their cheeks. When he came to Aeryn, he stood in front of her as his tired, dull orbs settled upon her. Gently, he pressed his muzzle against hers and softly whispered. "I'll always love you- no sin could ever turn me away from you." He licked her muzzle tenderly. "You have suffered too long- we all make mistakes." The composure of the typical tough wolfess suddenly shattered as she felt his touch, as his words filled her ears. She sobbed, crying hard and uncontrollabley. "I'm so sorry...Dax...forgive me..please?" He smiled warmly, pressing against her. "I already have and I always will." Turning around slowly to face the rest of his beloved friends, his maw opened just as he was about to speak but a howl interrupted his train of thought. Black ears perked upwards, the hazy blue of his eyes widening. As the familiar howl of one of his sons caught his ears, Dax's fur stood on end upon his neck as he could feel his stomach suddenly drop within him. Something was not right. Throwing his head back, Dax solaced in return. At that moment, those gathered stood in complete silence as their darkest fears, the one they all had been dreading, was slowly drawning nearer with each breath, with each passing moment. Each individual knew; Bindi was fading away. "Bindi!" Dax exclaimed, unable to take a breath as air felt scarce around his muzzle, his body trembling slightly as thoughts, emotions overtook him. Without a moment to lose, without an ounce of hesitation, the black and white swirled wolf leapting into lunging strides, using what was left of his stamina and strength that had been conjured from all parts of his body. His weathered paws found swift agility to carry him across the woods as his eyes scanned across for one of his sons who had sounded the call. Though his eyes were weary, they were able to pinpoint the small blurr of black and sunny stripes rushing towards him. His heart sunk- looking upon his sons face as tears stained his fur and his icy blue orbs were hued with pink from the the countless tears that had been shed. He knew, the whole family knew, that they were losing her.

"Daaaaad!" His son yelled, choking as he tried to keep a calm composure but it was impossible. Turning in a small circle, the pup began running back on the small, well-trodded path that led through the valley and to the den. "Hurry!" Dax's heart raced, adrenaline (or what was left of it) coursing through his wolfish veins as his tongue lolled from out of his maw, chest intaking deep breaths as he ran- sprinting as fast as he paws could take him. Time was of the essence! Run like hell, Dax! There's not much time! You can't lose her, not yet! Run- every ounce of strenght, every last drop of stamina...put it to use for this last moment and endure this pain and you'll be with her. Just one last battle- one last time, Davon screamed, urging him, pleading for him to go on as his inflence was sustaining him as he darted up the valley, with the den in sight. Several lengths away with the den coming closer with each lengthend stride, Dax glanced to the side as his son was struggling to keep up. As his eyes glanced up as the den was coming within length, the black and white swirled alpha scooped up his son within his jaws delicately and continued to make haste towards the den. With his nostrils flaring with deep intakes of breath and several feet away from the den, Dax slowed down to a trot as he neared the other latter litters of his sons and daughters, most of them grown up, staying outside of the den and watching silently as some muffled their cries with faces buried in one anothers fur and endless streams of tears trailing down from their eyes unceasingly. At the presence of their father, their attention was drawn to him. Gently placing the small pup along with them, many of them came up and nuzzled against him, whining and wuffing low with mourning as there was a common sense abiding around them that they were not only going to lose a mother but a father as well. As his maw, ears and forelegs were seized with affectionate nips, licks and the feeling of both small and large bodies nuzzling against him, Dax held his composure but, inside, it desperately wanted to break down. But he couldn't let that happen. Rumbling softly as he kissed each indivudal, the alpha lowered his head towards them. "Death is only the begining," he whispered to them, a reassuring, warm smile upon his maw. "We will be reunited again and I'll always be with you; in the clouds, in the wind, and," gently lifting his paw onto one of his young daughters chest, he smiled, "in your hearts." Just as Kaizen, Tavor and the rest of the group slowly approached Dax and the gathered family, they lowered their heads and took their places amongst the kids as they comforted them and sympathized with them. As they stood amongst the family, Dax looked upon the mix of beloved friends and children and nodded his head as he slowly entered into the den. They knew, at that moment, that they had given their final goodbye. The alpha narrowed his eyes to where his mate resided upon the den floor, a mass of withered fur and bones- ever beautiful in his eyes and a rose whose beauty was only being masked by thorns. Though the plauge had diminished and had stolen away her physical beauty, Dax could still see it- her bright vibrant eyes that were always so full of life, her sun kissed coat and her body that was sleek, lean and simply perfect. No matter what she looked like, what the disease robbed her of, Dax continued to still see it. The plauge could rob him of his strenght, his stamina and of his health but there was one thing that it couldn't take away from him. His love for his mate. A softened, warm smile widened across his maw as he walked towars her with a slight limp; his muscles aching and causing his back right leg to act up. "Bindi," he softly spoke with tenderness and upmost affection in his tired, rugged voice, "it's time...isn't it?" The thought that she was going to be taken away from him made his heart feel as if every force, every pain was tearing it apart mercilessly- Dax would be losing the love of his life to a plauge, a savage plauge he could not stop as he too was fading. But Davon could not let his influence tear them apart. I've kept you strong enough to escape each day with your life, to let you cherish family, friends and these last days. But it's time and with you I die as well, Dax. This moment- this is why I've kept you alive...to depart with Bindi. "Davon....." Love is unbreakable, Dax. You've learned this lesson well- I wasn't so bad, was I? Isn't this what you've wanted, what you've fought for? I made a promise to you- I'd help you fight for what you believed in and this is it. You did it Dax, you've found love and have built a legacy, you and Bindi. And the adventure has only begun. Dax choked as he slunk down onto his stomach, nestling tenderly against his mate. It was true; everything- everything they had ever wanted they had found, every trial they had come across, ever war they fought they were victorious but still had lost friends and loved ones along the way. The black and white swirled male had learned to trust, to lead and how to set an example yet the greatest gift he had ever recieved was pure, innocent, sweet love from his mate, Bindi, whom had taught him how to love and be loved; that in itself was the greatest gift of all and it was something that no worldy treasure could ever replace. Shifting his muzzle as he seized it with tender kissed and undying affection, the alpha wuffed softly as his composure- his outlook was calm as Davon soothed his mind and his final state. "You saved me...you believed in me...you gave me your love," he softly spoke, pressing against her with caution as he pressed his nose against hers. "My heart is yours, only yours, forever."
