Loidarsideli (loy-DAHR-seed-ellie) is a language based on the four major elements; Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. For each element, there are thirteen sounds.

Air sounds end with one vowel.

Water sounds end with two vowels.

Earth sounds end with a harsh consonant. (T, K, D, and a hard G)

Fire sounds end with a softer consonant. (S, R, and Z)

This means that there are fifty-two sounds under the elements. Only eight sounds exist beyond that of the elements. (ji, pu, wo, nn, fo, ma, yo, vi)

Vowels:

a – ah (as in father)
e – eh (as in bet)
i – ee (as in feet)
o – oh (as in row)
u – oo (as in food)

(y is not included, as it is not in the alphabet by itself)

The Fifty-two Sounds of the Elements:

Air

enu – (EH-new)
shu – (shoe)
la – (lah)
eli – (EH-lee)
na – (nah)
de – (deh)
eva – (EH-vah)
esi – (EH-see)
shi – (she)
eto – (Eh-toe)
dalu – (DAH-loo)
ale – (AH-lay)
sha – (as in shaman)

Water

noe – (NO-eh)
skia – (skee-AH)
nai – (the ‘ai’ sound as in thai)
luo – (LOO-oh)
ae – (AH-eh)
ea – (EH-ah)
dai – (the ‘ai’ sound as in thai)
die – (DEE-eh)
day – (day)
vea – (VEY-ah)
skua – (SCHOO-ah)
nou – (NO-oo)
loi – (as in loin cloth)

Earth

nik – (neek)
uk – (ook)
kilit – (KEE-leet)
bet – (bet)
vat – (vaht)
sid – (seed)
eat – (EH-aht)
ded – (dead)
kag – (cog)
bik – (beek)
nab – (knob)
let – (leht)
beg – (beg)

Fire

laur – (lah-OOR)
kus – (koose)
zer – (zehr – rhymes with ‘air’)
klis – (‘kli’ sound as in clean)
dar – (dahr – rhymes with ‘tar’)
nur – (NOO-ehr)
kes – (kehs – rhymes with ‘mess’)
rens – (as in children’s)
ties – (TEE-ehs)
bur – (BOO-ehr)
kar – (car)
shur – (SHOO-er)
laz – (laws)

The seven irregular sounds are actually words.

ji – (jeep)
pu – (poo)
wo – (whoa)
nn – (just ‘n’ drug out)
fo – (for)
ma – (more)
yo – (yodel)
vi – (vee)

‘Ji’ is placed on the end of words to make them negative. Let’s say you want to say “not happy”.

Happy is usually thought of as bubbly, so it is made up of two air elements, and one water element.

Evaesidai = happy

Now, to make it into not happy, or unhappy, we simply add ‘ji’ to the end.

Evaesidaiji = unhappy

‘Pu’ is the equivalent to the question mark.

Each question word is made from a single element of Fire. They are:

Bur - Who
Dar - What
Zer - Where
Nur - When
Kar - Why
Laz – How

Thus meaning that the above Fire sounds may not be used as a singular word (except for those words, obviously). Each of these sounds must have ‘pu’ following directly after it.

So, if I wanted to ask ‘Where?’ I’d say: Zer pu?

‘Wo’ is just the word for “I”. It is used when addressing oneself.

‘Nn’ is the word for “yes”. (Make sure you don’t place ‘ji’ after this, or you’ll have some confused people!)

‘Fo’ is the word for “no”.

“Ma” is used at the end of verbs to make commands.

“Yo” is just the word for ‘you’.

“Vi” makes babies. Have more than one thing? Stick ‘vi’ on the end of it.

GRAMMAR OF DOOM

First off, this language is very simple! So simple in fact, it might even be a bit hard. But that’s okay! The people that use it, the Sue, are very simple.

Basics&Such:

If I want to describe things, I must know what that object is, what it’s doing or not doing, and what I am saying about it.

Let’s describe a bowl. This particular bowl is blue. This bowl is also on a table.

Nouns go after adjectives.

So, I’d have to say ‘Blue bowl’.

The word for blue is made of one water element, and one air: ‘laday’

The word for bowl is made of three earth elements: ‘betnabbik’

With that new info, I’d say: Laday betnabbik. (literally ‘blue bowl’)

OH! I almost forgot. That blue bowl is on a table.

The word for table is made of one fire and two earth elements: ‘ukvatdar’

Now we know the words for blue, bowl, and table – but wait! We can’t say ‘Laday betnabbik ukvatdar.’ It’s not a blue bowl-table. We need to place this betnabbik somewhere. Well, on the ukvatdar sounds like a good idea.

Here are some common prepositions used by the Sue – all using a single element:

on - let
at - laur
above - enu
in front - klis
before - skua
in - la
near - shu

Okay. We’re ready to say “The blue bowl is on the table.”

--> ‘Laday betnabbik let ukvatdar.’

Literally: ‘Blue bowl on table.’

Oh, my mistake. The blue bowl is no longer on the table.

How do you say this, you ask? Simple! Remember the irregular word, ‘ji’? Well, if you place it on the end of the preposition…

--> ‘Laday betnabbik letji ukvatdar.’

Literally: ‘Blue bowl on(neg.) table.’ or ‘Blue bowl off table.’

Now it’s not on the table. I wonder who moved it…?

Kar pu wo vatshi laday betnabbik, yo deesi?

(Why I move blue bowl, you ask?)

‘Cause I was told to. Now I’m going to show you how to tell me to “Move the blue bowl!”

“Mo” is a command word. Plain and simple. Stick it onto verbs, and everything is demanding suddenly.

The verb ‘to move’ is made from one earth and one air element: ‘vatshi’

Now, with our pervious knowledge intact, we say:

--> ‘Vatshimo laday betnabbik!”

Literally: ‘Move(command) blue bowl!’

Well, I don’t know about you, but I sure like bowls. I went to the store just now to buy some more. And, what do you know! They’re all blue. How do I say ‘the blue bowls’ ?

Make babies using ‘vi’, of course! Let’s stick ‘vi’ on the end of betnabbik, shall we?

- betnabbikvi

Okay, the bowls copulated; now let’s say ‘the blue bowls’.

--> ‘Laday betnabbikvi.’

Literally: ‘Blue bowls.’

Laday betnabbikvi enu yo!

(Blue bowls above you!)

Words with a negative connotation:

As you may have noticed, words such as “sad” or “bad” do not exist by themselves in this language. They are merely suggested with the use of “ji” on the end of words with a positive connotation. Keep that in mind when writing or speaking.

Word list one is finally updated. XP

I've been busy with other things, so I haven't had any time to work on Loidarsideli. But I got the first part of the word list one up, so that's progress, right? :]

@theoretical_cat: I haven't done anything with names yet. I guess I should, huh?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 08, 2007 7:22 pm

YAY! you're making progress! While you're at it why don't you write something in the writing system?

Here's a handwritten example.

It says "Veasha shakus klisji yo."

Or, "Shower is(to be) behind you."
