An 'empty nest' was an interesting thing, Helaku mused as he grazed idly near a stream. Even though most of his offspring had remained in the herd, it was more the principle of it...the knowledge that they were mature now, and making their own decisions. Taking care of themselves, even if they might come to daddy for help or advice. It was admittedly nice to have time to himself with Olathe, though. Just because he had grown foals didn't mean he was going to keel over and act...old.

Two. He'd had two sets of foals now grow up and wander off on their own. Granted, they hadn't been all that far apart but that wasn't the point. The point was that things were now quiet again and when things were quiet... Well, he thought too much.
He approached the stream, blissfully oblivious to anything aruond him as he stared at his reflection. "See that. Y'don't look no dif'rent. Ain't nothin' changed at all. Them's the ones that got older. Not you." He snorted softly, giving his head a shake.

Helaku jumped as he heard a voice, speaking words that he'd thought more than once himself. Well well, it looked like he wasn't as alone in that as he thought. "Too true," he commented, lifting his head to look at the unfamiliar stallion. "It sure feels that way once they're grown though, doesn't it? And I'm sure it'll only feel more so when they start having offspring of their own."

He groaned, letting his head drop down between his legs where it remained for a moment before he quickly tossed it back. "Already happenin'. Mah oldest daughter's expectin'. Don't know if Ah should be overjoyed or if Ah should go stomp th'stallion who did it... 'Course, Ah think bein' stuck with mah petite is punishment enough." He nickered softly, definately more amused than upset.

Helaku chuckled and tilted his head at the other stallion. "Wouldn't that depend on the stallion? If he's trying to stand by her I'd approve, but I'd be stomping him if he wasn't, myself." He tossed his head with a snort, mind wandering back through memories. "It takes two, so both should take part in what happens afterward."

"Seein' as though he's a stallion Ah told her t'stay away from in th'first place?" He laughed, shaking his head. "Ah think they'll be good for each othah... Once she calms down an' once he stops actin' like the gift o'tha Spirits. How 'bout your family... Since you seem t'know what Ah'm talkin' about?"

"Two fillies and a colt...then again, I keep forgetting they're grown now." Helaku chuckled and tossed his head, throwing his dark mane back a bit. "I know they're responsible for themselves now, but I still worry. I got into plenty of trouble at that age, and found plenty of hurt too. I'd about given up when I found their mother." His mouth quirked slightly in a smile. "The fiasco with the skinwalkers set us back a little, but we made it."

"Ah gotcha beat there." He nickered as he gave his own head a light toss. "Two fillies an' four colts... Least, that's what they was when they came out. Now Ah've got two mares, one already expectin', an' four stallions who'd better know bettah than t'be doin' anythin' so soon."
He shook his head slowly as he glanced down at the stream, starring at his reflection. "Y'wouldn't be a good parent if y'didn't worry 'bout them at least a little."

Helaku laughed, grinning at the other stallion. "Maybe you've just been busier, eh? Then again, I'd say you were now, with six to keep track of. Three's hard enough, even with a familiar to help." His ears flicked around, but he knew Mai would be keeping well out of sight. As wolves went she was a very shy creature, preferring to be a silent companion. But she was always there, unless he'd set her to some task. He'd taken comfort in that, more than once.

"Ah've got two-leggers keepin' an' eye on mah oldest daughter fer now... Gonna make sure everythin's alright with those babies o' hers." He shook his head slowly. "M"boys can take care o'themselves an' Ah've got no doubt that mah youngest girl can hold 'er own as well. She's jus' like her momma."

"Spirit is a wonderful thing," Helaku agreed, swishing his banded tail. "Sometimes it's the best way to make sure that you make it through a tough time, instead of just curling up to hope the difficulty passes. But from speaking with you, at least, I wouldn't think yours had to worry about that...and I believe I've totally forgotten to introduce myself. I am Helaku."
