Kiefer trotted incircles, throwing his weight forward and letting his legs fly up into a buck, then throwing his weight back and pawing at the air in a rear. He thought doing this would make him look tough, and perhaps then all the adults would think he was cool. Not that he cared.
It hadn't been long since Kiefer had last seen other foals, in fact, there seemed to be quite a few, they were everywhere, and he loved playing with them. Getting into trouble with someone else always caused him so much more joy then just getting in trouble alone!
However, here he was, alone again. Perhaps he would see another foal? There was still quite a bit of daylight left, and his limbs tingled with the need to run and play.
Kiefer thought of how his papa and mama had met so many cool soquili. His papa had met a ghost like one a few times, and even an evil soquili! He wanted to be like that, to one day brag to his friends about how he had met so many interesting soquili, and have them oo and ahh in jelousy. Maybe one day, maybe soon, he would meet a special soquili.

Kindle was bored, and didn't want to go home. She had evaded her father's watchful eye and had managed to escape hours before. She knew she had a lecture coming whenever she returned home, so she wasn't anxious to return to the cave.
She wasn't paying attention, as she rarely did, and was too busy watching her hooves flare and spark as she attempted yet again to control the flame.
She paused, walking close to a budding flower, and lifted her hoof over to it, gently brushing up against it. With glee, the little bud started to sizzle and caught the flame, burning itself slowly to the ground. It was fun, burning things, but even her pyro tendancies were getting boring. She needed to find some fun, and find it quickly.

Kiefer's bright green eyes detected something coming into the sky in the distance. It was grey and whispy. His sensative nose inhaled it's sent...not totally unpleasent in the way that some things smelt, but still displeasing to his nose. He sneezed.
Trotting over to the sorce of the smoke, he found himself looking at a filly...and...her hooves! They were....moving...and glowing! Was this...one of the special soquili his papa had met, or was this filly in trouble? She didn't seem in pain...but...something about the stuff on her hooves, it looked a bit sinister...
"I'll save you!" he screamed, lunching forward at the filly and tackling her. "What is wrong with your hooves?!?!?"

Too busy enamoured with the flower bud, Kindle failed to see the young colt making his way over to her. It was only after hearing him yell and race towards her that her head rose up, and she let out a startled squeal as she toppled to the ground underneath the colt.
"What was THAT for?!" She shrieked back, flailing and wiggling underneath his weight, "I don't need saving from myself!"
She paused, staring at the yellow and brown foal who had tackled her to the ground. "I'd get up if I were you," she pointed out, trying hard to keep from wheezing as his weight pushed in on her stomach, "you might end up getting burned yourself, if your body's anywhere near my feet!"

Oops.
Apparently....the filly did not need saving, as she screamed at him. "Sor...OUCHHH!" he squeeled, the fire nipping at his ankle. He sprung up off the filly."That...hurt..." He said, unsure what to think of it. "I...Thought that you needed saving...since your hoovers are all....glowy" he said, venturing to touch the fire again, getting the same painful results.
"What is it?" he asked, considering touching it again, just to confirm that it caused pain. That was just how kiefer acted...it he didn't have a concrete knowlage that something was bad, he wouldn't hesitate to test it out a few more times "And why does it bite me every time I touch it?" he said with a forwn.

She giggled, and struggled to get back up to her feet.
"It doesn't bite you, goofball." she replied, wiggling one of her hooves out to give him a better look. "It's FIRE. Fire burns, not bites. It'd have ta have a mouth to bite ya."
Kindle then took a moment to trot around in a little circle in front of this new colt, showing off how her hooves sparked. "They're fire 'cause I'm part Nightmare, like my Momma." She told him proudly, coming to a halt in front of him.
She peered at him with her orange eyes, and studied his markings and stripes. Finally, with narrowed eyes, she asked, "Do you do anything special?"

Kiefer pressed his eyeres back against his head, slightly embaressed.
"Well...how should I know! I've never seen it before...." he said back, looking at it closer. Odd, it wasn't solid, it moved, and (as he knew from previous experience) your hoof went right through it. Then how could it hurt? And how could he see it...this was so confusing.
"Really? Cool!" He watched the hooves enviously, then looked down at his own, willing them to catch on fire like the other foals were, but with no such luck. He flicked his tail in annoyence/
"Me? Of course I do something special!! I..." he thought for a secound "I can jump real far with out falling!" he said proudly. It aws ture, he had prcticed many times jumping over things...like tree stumps...and his sisters. However, his jumping skills were nothing particularly spectular.

She watched him look down at his hooves, jealousy in his eyes, and preened a bit. She knew she should be more humble, like Daddy was tryin' ta teach her to be, but it wasn't bad gloating just a little bit, was it?
"My name's Kindle, by the way." She said, smiling at her companion, "What's yours?"
She stifled a giggle as he tried to think of a talent he possessed. It was fun, meeting all these new Soquilis... each one seemed to have a uniqueness that made them different from each other. She knew her's were her hooves, and she was curious to know what made this colt special.
"Really?" she asked, when he answered her. One eyebrow raised. "I wanna see!"
Kindle herself was a poor jumper, and longed to be able to run as fast as her daddy and sisters. Unfortunately, though, she had been born with her mother's physical slowness, and was unable to jump and run as fast as the others she played with. Perhaps if this colt really could jump high, he could teach her to be a better jumper?

"My name is Kiefer!" he said, puffing out his chest to try to make himself look larger and stronger. He longed to be a big, strong stallion. However, right now he was just a little colt. Oh well, one day he would be big, he just knew it!
"Alright!" he said with a smile. It was nice that someone might see his 'skill'. Certainly he was a good looking colt, but nothing about his physically was particularly special. Still, he knew that he had plenty of things to be proud of.
Backing up, the colt began to run as fst as his lanky legs could take him. once he felt he was at a satisfactory speed, he threw his weight forward, soaring in the ir for a fair amount before stumbling to the ground. It took him a secound to get all his feet under control and get his center of balence back, but he did not fall, at least.
"See? Arn't I good?" he said, his eyes bright in anticipation of the praise he expected, his ears sticking straight up, his tail perked up.

"Ooooo," Kindle cooed, watching him. "That's... that's AWESOME!"
She reared back and with a happy laugh, raced as fast as she could over to where Kiefer now stood. "I wanna be able to jump like that!"
He stood there, looking quite proud of his accomplishments, and Kindle gave him the praise that he was due for. "I don't think I've ever seen a foal jump so high!" she continued, stretching her own orange marked legs. "I tried ta jump real high once, but all I do is fall down and end up burning something."

Kiefer let a huge grin play across his face as Kindle fed his ego. He had never really had anyone praise him before, exept his parents, but that always seemed like it didn't count, because they just did it so often. At some point it felt like they didn't count as much anymore, and having someone new praise him, well, that was great!
"Well, it isn't too hard...you just have to...umm. Well you push off with your back legs and make sure you lean forward...and then you land first on your front legs, then your back. And don't try to stop on the spot.. pretend you are still running when you land" he said, trying to think of what he does when he jumped. He remembered that he used to try to land abruptly, and most of the time he ended up doing a somersault, and hurting his legs.

"Hmmm..." she paused. Did she really want to try it? She could still feel the lingering bruise that had been left after the previous attempt, and she wasn't a glutton for pain.
"Perhaps if you ran with me, and we counted... then we could jump together? I'd feel much better if I didn't have someone actually watching me jump," she confessed, feeling a bit ashamed at her sudden bout of shyness. She typically wasn't nervous about anything, but when it came to running and jumping, she knew her flaws and hated making them so obvious to the casual eye of an onlooker.

Kiefer tilted his head to the side. Running had always been his strong point...he wasn't particularly strong, nor lucky, but when it came to speed, he was pretty good. He didn't understand that others might not have the confidence he had in certain things.
"I....ok, I supose" he said, rather confused. "Sure" he confirmed, looking for somewhere well-padded with grass. He may not have understood being self concious, but he did understand that if you fell, it would hurt. "Ok, we will jump over there. You start running first, and you count down when to jump, ok?" he said, wanting to give her the power to choose.

She was relieved that he hadn't questioned her with her request... how humiliating it would have been to be made fun of! "Although," she thought to herself as she grinned, "If someone made fun of me, I'd just burn 'em with my hooves or bite 'em!"
She looked towards the direction he had motioned to. It looked flat enough, with no rocks jutting out, just hoping to trip the two foals. It would definitely do for a practice jump.
Nodding her head, she smiled and took off. "Try to keep up, if ya can!" she called out, knowing full well it would only be a matter of seconds for him to do so. It was exhilarating, even at her slower pace, to feel the wind rush against her face and through her blackened orange hair. Her hooves let off tiny sparks as she ran, and it felt good just to run.
Turning back, her orange eyes searched for her new friend, and she giggled, beckoning him to join her.

"I'll catch ya!" Kiefer called as he bolted off after her, and in a few strides he managed to catch up to her. The hooves on the side that she was on fet warm with the fire that they were giving off. It was odd.
He looked back, she had left a bit of a trail of grass singed where she had been standinding. How amusing! He once again willed his hooves to light up like Kindle's did, but no such luck.
He looked forward again, they were quite near an ideal place to jump, ust before wher e the grass got longer. Hopefully they wouldn't go too far, then their hooves could get caught up in it.
"We should jump soon" he suggested.
