What size needles are you using for this? Because on my size 8's (my babies. Mommy loves you...) this "blanket" would be doll sized. Not ever worthy of the title "lapghan". Even with the double-strand. And 34" isn't even three feet. Is that supposed to the the width?
Other than size issues, the pattern seems ok even for a beginner, so why not?

The pattern seems very simple so if you're starting out it should be fine. Holding 2 strands of yarn makes it knit up pretty fast, just be careful because you can get them tangled easily, or split.

Man... I really hope you're not using microspun for this project. Sure, it's a nice soft yarn, but the sucker is sport weight and the skeins are only 168 yards. You're gonna need a shitload of microspun to finish this blanket. gonk
Edit: Ahhh~ it's baby spun AND microspun. Well, both are kinda pricey, so save up those JoAnn/Michaels/ACMoore coupons!!!

It seems like a fairly simple pattern, should be do-able. Are you making a baby blanket?
