With a smooth sashay of her hips, tail flickering in a silky blue stream against her flanks, she had left Nuka in her dust to ponder whatever it was that stallions pondered when a pretty young mare left them alone by a stream. She wasn't quite sure what it was... But it had to be something. Afterall, she always found herself thinking after running into someone and those someones were generally male.
Oh, her Papa would be none to pleased to find that out, of course. He had warned her against talking to 'strange stallions' and he had told both of her brothers to keep an eye on her... But they all had other things to do, didn't they? Papa had three new foals waiting to come out of their baskets and Sedi? Well, Sedi had a stallion-hood to prove existed or something silly like that. Something so foolish that it left her completely unguarded...
She was loving it! Every moment of freedom brought an added spring to her step, her tail and mane both swishing with every bounce. Was this what being an adult was about? Or was this only part of it? She had so much to learn... So many things to experience... So much freedom!

It was freedom of a different kind that was on Guilian's mind this particular evening; specifically, freedom from the stress and worry of being stalked by a jealously possessive lover. It was amazing how one little incident could blow up in one's face at inopportune moments...like one little fling with a virginal kalona could result in him being a proud papa-to-be on a short leash.
At least, that was what Izusa seemed to want. However, he wasn't anyone's exclusive anything, and had no plans on starting now.
Last time he'd sought out other female company, Izusa had managed to show up and proved just how posessive and violent she could be. That had taught him something important, though...
If you're going to socialize, leave the area first.
Which was why he was out here, strolling along in a state of observant amusement. Amusement, because the more things change (and the farther you travel), the more they stayed the same.
Specifically, there was no one around. How dull.

She paused by a small pond, leaning down to gaze at her reflection once more. She knew it was something that she shouldn't get into the habit of. She just... Couldn't believe how much she had changed. Her entire form had filled out so that she was more than just an awkward looking filly with legs too long for the rest of her body. Somewhere in her reflection she could see her Momma... But, more than anything, she saw the wildfire of her Papa's eyes glowing back at her.
"'Sila... Y'ain't supposed t'be thinkin' about nothin' like that... You're supposed t'be enjoyin' your freedom." She snorted softly, giving her head a light toss as she struck the surface of the pond with her hoof to distort her reflection. How was she going to ever learn anything about the world and what it meant to be an adult if she kept thinking about the things that her Papa would say?
She wouldn't! That's how! She huffed once more, giving another little stomp. "Stop bein' silly."

In a way, this evening was shaping up strangely. Usually Guilian was able to revel in the freedom of the day, the thrill of the hunt, the anticipation of something great.
This wasn't to say that he didn't harbor those usual thoughts; it was just that at the same time, he was pondering the circumstances that had driven him to have to watch his back all the time. Hardly a pleasant feeling, even if the one provoking such feelings WAS an attractive mare.
Still, he couldn't say he was fond of the feeling he was someone's puppet, jumping when told to jump, abstaining when told to abstain. So as soon as he realized that he was dwelling yet again, he had to chuckle. "She's not even about and you're still paranoid, my dear Guilian; if you're not careful, you're going to become a complete basket case, and then what will happen to you?"
Likely nothing good, that much was certain. And who wanted that?
Certainly not him. He had already had more than enough of his fair share of shocks, thanks anyway.
That in mind, the cardinal stallion promptly resolved to push all unpleasant thoughts out of his head. He was Guilian, after all; young, handsome, sexy, and everything any mare could ever desire.
Now, all he had to do was find that mare...
As if on cue, the faint stomp of a hoof against the ground drifted through the air, catching Guilian's attention at once. Then another...
Well, that was promising, at least. With the ease of much practice Guilian checked his roses, then set off in the direction the hoofbeats. It MIGHT be a stallion...but then again, it might not.

No, she was definately not a stallion... And she was likely to kick anyone who confused her for such. She wasn't anything like her brothers... Too curvy and petite to be anything other than a mare. Or a filly on the verge of marehood since she had been told that she wasn't an adult yet.
She snorted softly, tilting her head high as she turned away from the pond only to make her way back towards the woods. As lovely as she looked standing as proudly as she was, it did nothing for her line of sight. When she opened her eyes she was mere steps away from running into something bright crimson.
"Oh!" She stumbled back, startled, eyes wide. "Ah'm sorry. Ah didn't mean ta... Ah didn't hurt you none, did Ah?" Too concerned with this almost run-in to think that she hadn't even brushed against whoever this was, she continued to ramble on right until the moment that her eyes focused and she realized that what she had almost run into... Was a stallion.

Blending in had never been a strong point of Guilian, but he'd also never particularly cared for that sort of ability. Standing out, being noticed, drawing every eye in the area...THAT was what he was about, and obviously someone upstairs had been thinking the same thing when making Guilian so brightly colored!
However, it seemed that the mare he was suddenly face to face with didn't appreciate that.
As soon as he had laid eyes on the mare, Guilian had been entranced; while no willowy pale mare, she was far from being a brassy and overpoweringly sensual beauty. Instead, she was very...well, rough, he'd say; rough, in that she didn't seem to care how she was moving and instead carried herself with purpose and directness, no mincing or sashaying, as mares often seemed to do. And beyond her walk...
He'd never seen a mare such as this one. As always, his eyes were drawn to bright colors; in her case, that means he found himself looking at the glowing hoof, the bright strands of her mane, the glowing, somewhat peculiar marking on her hip...and then just taking the rest of her in from there. Unpolished her movements might be, but there was nothing wrong with her regardless!
He'd been so involved in his observation that he had ceased to continue towards her, wanting to get a good look before actually making contact; however, she seemed to take the initiative instead, seeming to walk RIGHT up to him...
Or not. Her surprise and shock upon reaching him was not exptected, and for a moment he only gave her an incredulous look as she...apologized? How quaint.
His laughter, low and rumbly, was almost a forgone conclusion to this somewhat absurb scenario, but least the mare get the wrong idea he gave her an apologetic gesture with his wing. "Not at all, Chica, unless you count a bruised ego that one could literally run into me before realizing I was about! I assure you, being invisible is a new phenomenon for me."
What a delightful accent she had!
"But you yourself are not in anyway injured, are you?"

Her brow furrowed slightly as he... Laughed? What was he laughing at? Oh. Her. He was laughing at her because she was apologizing profusely when she hadn't even run into him. She gave her head a light toss, lofting it back into that proud pose of determination. "Ah'm jus' fine. Wasn't expectin' ta see anyone. World's full o' surpises though, non?"
He had said something before asking if she was alright; something that she had paid little mind to until she actually looked at him. With such a vibrant color exactly how had she missed him standing there? Had she been that lost in her own thoughts? "Ah wouldn't say you were invisible. Ah'd say somethin' more 'long the lines of Ah wasn't payin' much mind ta my surroundin's." Had it been one of her brothers or her father she'd walked right into she would be recieving a lecture on always being alert.
"Ah'm afraid you have me confused for someone else though... Mah name's not 'Chica'. It's Atsila... 'Course, if you tell me who you are, Ah could tell this 'Chica' who's lookin' for her if Ah find another lady who looks like me." She managed to cast a smile in his direction that may have been coy... Had she known at all what it meant to grace a stallion with such a coquettish look, that is.
It was then that her attention fell to his wings. Or, rather, the one wing that had moved to dismiss her fretting. Her eyes went wide once more and her youth was betrayed by her look of amazement. "Ah've never seen a stallion with wings b'fore."

Such resolution in the way the mare stood, such firmness in the jaw and chin. Either she was used to standing up for herself, or he was a dromedary. And since he hadn't noticed any humps lately...
"Indeed it is a surprising world, Chica, one where even the most basic of assumptions can be turned on their head. This should teach me to draw assumptions though, wouldn't you agree?"
One step at a time, one question at a time...but my, she certainly had a lot of questions! No timidness or reticence to talk on her part, that was certain, and that fact made him smile even more. "And no confusion, Atsila-Chica; not knowing your name, I had to refer to you as something; while there might be stallions out there who will stoop to saying 'mare', I like to go a somewhat different route. 'Chica' simply means I am addressing a mare, nothing more. Though my thanks for the kindly introduction."
Here he swept her a low bow of greeting, lightly brushing his muzzle against one of her hooves at the lowest point of the bow. "My name is Guilian, Atsila, and it's a pleasure. A rare pleasure indeed, and one I hope you won't begrudge me when I express my doubts that there is another mare like you anywhere." Which, given that unique and somewhat bright glow to her body, he didn't doubt.
Her smile might have gone unnoticed by Atsila herself, but to one as used to female wiles as Guilian, he not only saw it but interpretted it as what that sort of look usually meant. Taking it thusly as an invitation, his own smile took on a slightly more sensual curve and he stepped closer to her as she let out her little awed exclamation.
"So you have never seen wings on a stallion before, Atsila-Chica? A pity, as they not only provide transportation but also warmth and even decoration. Having wings is a most useful physical trait; observe." To illustrate, Guilian extended the nearer wing to it's fullest length...allowing it to lightly brush against Atsila's neck at the same time. "Note the potential for shade via wing, or for determining the direction the wind is blowing...indeed, there are many purposes for such a wing."
"But you only say stallions; is it to be assumed you know of winged mares, then?"

"Ah was told once or twice that it wasn't wise t'assume things... Somethin' bout makin' a mule outta whoever does it?" She nickered softly, that sound accompanied by another light toss of her head that sent mane fluttering against the curve of her neck. "Ah think it's easier ta jus' go with tha flow o' things an' not assume anythin' than it is ta try figurin' things out." Because Spirits forbid she ever try to take the time to try to figure out her brothers...
At his explaination of the word 'Chica' she nodded knowingly. Her father had a word like that; 'Chere'. He'd heard her call her Momma by that name just as often as he'd heard her call the spring green mare by the same. It had to be something universal like that... Since she knew that 'Chere' was not her Momma's name.
For some reason she felt warmth rushing to her face as his muzzle brushed her hoof. Unsure as to whether or not she should pull back she simply stood still, smiling at the way he spoke. So this was what it was like to have a conversation with a stallion who seemed to think she was a mare... Instead of seeing her as a filly. "Ah've been told Ah'm one of a kind... An' if there were more o' me in the world there'd be trouble."
"Ah've never seen wings on anythin' other than a bird... Or one o' those strange little bugs that flitters over th'lake. They move so fast an' their colors are so pretty... Ah tried ta catch one once." She shivered slightly as his feathers touched her neck, the muscles rippling beneath her coat. "Ain't nearly as easy as it looks t'catch somethin' with wings... An' Ah thought Ah told you that assumin' things lead ta trouble."

Sassy, this one was; perhaps the results of having older siblings...or else just having brothers. It was usually the youngest girls or the only girls who had that kind of attitude...or maybe she had cousins? Regardless, Guilian figured it was safe to assume she had family or some other close relationships with others; those 'I was told' statements definitely indicated something to that effect.
However, that only amused him more, albeit waried him a bit. Family could be wonderful, but male family members could be so bothersome! He wasn't going to worry about possibilities, though, not when he didn't have to.
Instead, he let out a rueful chuckle, giving Atsila a wink. "I see you have me pegged, Atsila-Chica; I am rather prone to assumptions, and I won't deny that hasn't come back to kick me in the rump periodically. Whoever advised you was most prudent, indeed they were."
As he spoke, he'd returned his wing to his side, once again running it along Atsila's neck; and a lovely neck it was, curved with just enough proudness to not be haughty but still show spirit. And he did so like spirit...
"You are indeed a novel one, Chica, though I have to disagree about the trouble. From what I have so far been able to determine, there's nothing at all unsettling about you; in fact, having more of you around might be downright entertaining. Not, of course, to say that even one of you can't be...pleasant." The last word was drawled a bit for emphasis, his dark eyes dancing with amusement as he delievered the not so subtle innuendo. Of course, whether or not it was understood remained to be seen, he himself having assumed she was onto him.
"And on the subject of wings...well, I have to agree that not being caught is a handy thing. No matter how fleet of foot one's pursuers might be, there are no limbs as fleet as wings in flight."
Flicking one ear, Guilian gave the mare a conspiratorial smile. "But enough about the pros of wings, Chica; such is the meat of an intellectual discourse, not a pleasant afternoon chat between two new acquaintances. So, assuming it is not too forward of me, Chica...what is it that brings you out to these parts, and in such a state of thought that you take no notice of your surroundings?"

As far as she was concerned, male family members were very bothersome. The three of them that she had so far seemed to plague her existance... But they were elsewhere now. Hopefully somewhere far, far away where they had no chance of disrupting her conversation with this intriguing stallion.
"Ah've learned all sorts o' things while growin' up." She nodded slowly, flashing the brilliantly colored stallion another soft smile. Her Momma hadn't raised a fool. She had made sure to give her little tips and hints to help her throughout her life... But she had left out one thing. She hadn't told her what it took to actually become a mare.
She tilted her head the next time his wing caressed her neck, nipping at the air inches away from his feathers. He seemed as if he were trying to play, tickling her with his wing as he was doing. She could play just as easily, of course... Even if most of the playing that she'd done (beyond racing, tag and find me) was a bit on the rough side due to growing up with two brothers that were easier to butt heads with than roll in the flowers.
"Ah doubt anyone who knows me'd agree with that... 'Cept maybe my Momma. But a momma's gotta say that 'bout their little'uns, doesn't she?" Her brow lofted slightly, tail giving a slow swish behind her. "Maybe you only disagree 'cause y'just met me, Guilian." Afterall, it had taken a bit longer for Nuka to call her trouble, hadn't it?
"What was I thinkin' about? Oh... Lots o' little things here an' there." It was mostly about family... Family that she was trying not to think about so that she could be 'wild' and 'free'. "Would it be too forward of me to ask you somethin', Guilian?"

"All sorts of things, eh? Sounds most intriguing, to be sure." Guilian couldn't help but chuckle at that comment; it was very reminiscent of a foal, in one sense; as though she had to be resolute and prove herself to be in the right, or knowledgeable, or something. A very endearing trait, in it's own way, especially since he was all but positive she was playing with him.
This believe was futher enforced by the playful n** at his wing as it ran along her neck, provoking a laugh and a teasing tap to her nose. "Tsk tsk; for such an enlightened Chica, you sure never learned not to bite. I suppose that a biter like you might just be trouble after all!"
However, he winked as he said so, clearly indicating that he actually thought no such thing. "And of course you may ask, Chica; I have asked of you, so it's only fair you ask of me."

"Mmhm." She nodded slowly, certain that everyone learned things from their parents, particularly their mothers, when they were younger. "Didn't you learn things while you were growin' up, Guilian?"
Her brow raised ever so slightly, nose scrunching as it was tapped. It gave a little wriggle almost as if she were going to sneeze... And then the strange tickle-like feeling went away, leaving her with a delightfully odd look upon her face. "Ah was told not t'bite... Which is why Ah didn't bite you. Ah believe Ah stopped just short o' doin' so. Ah don't think Ah hurt the air none." She snorted softly, tilting her head high once more only to gaze upon the stallion with an almost teasing look. Boys were far too easy to tease...
Then he mentioned the question and, although she had already asked one in response to something else he had said, she still got one more, didn't she? Her question, once voice, may have seemed strange coming from this confident young mare but she had to ask anyways. Guilian seemed intelligent enough, afterall, and he hadn't treated her as if she was still just a filly. Maybe she could just ask and he wouldn't laugh...
"..." No, she couldn't bring herself to ask something of this stallion that was, most likely, better off asked of another mare. Instead of voicing that question she straightened out. "What brings you to this neck o' tha woods?"

"Well..." Yes, he had learned things when he was younger, but they hadn't been the typical 'wholesome' type; that happens when you wind up on your own at a very young age. He'd learned things all right...but he'd bet that they weren't the same things Atsila was referring to. Not that he regretted his own particular lifestyle; far from it, in fact!
"I did indeed learn things, yes; and while I have to admit you didn't bite me PERSE, you could have; and the risk is almost as bad as the intent. For shame, Chica, for shame!"
He was laughing, though, and didn't stop even when addressing her...well, frankly unexpected question. The way she had originally asked, he'd been expecting something a bit more...well, direct!
Still, no harm done. Tossing back his curls, Guilian greeted the question with an amused smile. "I myself? Why, I'm out in search of company, of course Chica...and I hope it's not to forward on MY part to hope I've found it."

"Ah've only ever bitten mah brothers... An' they've deserved it." She snorted softly, pawing at the ground with her 'glowing' hoof as she did so. She had been chastised for it by her parents, of course, but she was still of the belief that both Beau and Sedi had earned a good bite for being so mean just because she was a girl.
"Anyways... That was forevah ago an' Ah've grown up since then." She tossed her head, giving her tail a little swish as she went from foal-like behavior to model young adult. She kept saying that she had grown up... But had she really? Was she truly any different than she had been only moons ago?
"Ah bet you don't have ta look far t'find company. Ah jus' keep runnin' into others ma'self. Always someone new, it seems." Except for Nuka... But he was on her list of stallions that simply didn't count at the moment; right there next to her brothers and father. "Ah guess you've already found it. Afterall, we're talkin', aren't we? That's part o' keepin' someone company, right?"
