So,I have a question. My dog,Lucy,is about 1 and a half years old.She is still a puppy, and she is VERY excitable. She would never do anything to intentionally hurt someone, the worst she would do is lick you to death. But whenever people come over, especially one friend of mine who comes over ever other Sunday, she gets excited and jumps on them.I can't blame her because she doesn't see other people that often, but sometimes she accidentally scratches them.I tell her to stop, but this doesn't work.Any ideas of what I should do?

By the way, I have also heard that it helps if you put the dog on the leash before they come in and keep them down, have you tried that/does that help?

By the way, I have also heard that it helps if you put the dog on the leash before they come in and keep them down, have you tried that/does that help?Yes, it will help. You have more control over your dog, and can give corrections more easily. If your dog jumps all over someone when they come inside, give a leash correction and a "no". If your dog sits calmly or watches you, praise a lot and give a treat. She'll catch on.

A lot of times puppies jump because they want attention. Next time your dog tries to get your attention by jumping, turn around and cross your arms as if you're ignoring her. This tells the puppy that jumping won't get you to pay attention to her.

There's also the whole 'knee to the chest' method.
Works good with my dog.
He hasn't learned NOT to jump up, but he only needs one knee to remember.

My Pup Loki Does that. rolleyes
I Tell People just to turn their backs away from him and if that doesnt work get some keys and just jingle them or chuck them down at the floor near to where he is because it puts him into a little shock where he's all like 'Omg whats that, loud noise' kinda thing and then i get people to stroke him calmly after they have done it to praise him from stoping jumping up at them. It works quite well with Him and if he's naughty now you just have to say 'Keys' to him and give him a 'your being naughty' Look and he stops what ever he was in the middle of doing ((usuly trying to get into the bins and chuck rubbish all over the house. xp ))
