I freaking love the talent show gigs. Easy exposure! Kids are practically forced to watch your band! xp

I'm still waiting for our schools talent show xD
My friend and I, even as short as I've played, sound amazing together. He's a guitarist going on... 8 Years >.< I love it how he helps me to develop a bass line that accompanies his playing while still allowing me some room for fills and such.

We'll probably play it real easy though and just play something like Seven Nation Army...
Does anyone know how I can get the muted-thumpish sound of the guitar/bass in the song without plam muting? It would really help me play >.<

Hmmmm, tone and your style. Generally you can get a "thumpy" sound by cutting the mids and highs on your amp and boosting the bass. Playing with your thumb helps a bit as well. You can also try a variation of the Victor Wooten trick, get a hair tie and put it over the headstock of your bass onto the strings behind the nut, mutes the strings and prevents them from ringing too much.

Me and my mate Thalia are trying to organise something for our talent quest, but the other three... god! talk about 3 second attention span. They get side tracjed so easy. They're just not motivated. PLus i've never performed before, i really want to. I'm so excited. We might just end up doing a drum n bass thing.

I really have been wanting to try that Wooten trick, but yeah, just change your tone. If you want to only do it in a certian point in your song, either try moving the wristband from the head to the first fret. Or change the EQ on your bass, and set your amp to where you get both tones really good from your bass's controls.

heh heh, i just got a Fender Jaguar, so many controls on that baby, i can get pretty much any kind of sound from it, but for the Seven nation Army Tone, turn the tone all the way down and i think he plays it with a pick, so play it nearish the bridge if you despise pick

I think its less of that twang sound and more of the muffed sound thats being looked for here, but thats a really good way to make an extremely poppy sound.

xD Thanks a million. I need to look into that hairband trick >.< All I do now really is rest my upper arm on the bridge and play over the neck with my thumb.... It works but it makes transferring to the guitar-parts a little difficult for me... Meh.
