The sweet sound of a morning songbird shattered the still air that contained the burnt sienna mare. She had been through rough times recently, and would have preferred it if her peaceful sanctity was kept, especially at this hour of the day. A yawn escaped her as if it had been awaiting a chance to break free for quite a while. The chill morning air made her shiver as she got up to walk to a nearby stream.

The stream comforted her--it was where she made many discoveries, like that of her two-legged companion. Water, also, in general, made the mare content--after all, it is the source of all life. Rain, perhaps, was the only form of water that she disliked... though... she did meet Moir in the rain.

Unicorn horn travelled in first, breaking the surface of the water before the rest of the mare's head came in. The cold, instant wetness woke up the otherwise tired female in addition to jolting her whole body, perhaps filling it with energy required later on in the day. Who knew what the day had in store for the mare with horn and wings.

Were it not for winter, the armored stallion would have decided to forgo the early morning errand to the water's edge. Exactly what is was about the season that comforted him so remained a mystery to him, but for once Crousader was content to leave that answer to the Spirits. Today, he would be at peace with himself and just live for the moment.

Overhead the trill of a songbird echoed in his ears, and beneath his shining helm he smiled a brief ghost of a smile.

Be the harshest winter night, or palest sun of morning.. this time is my time. He thought absently, allowing the tranquility of the moment to seep all the way through his half healed heart. Thoughts of Cloud Haven flashed across his mind, along with the troubled memories of the Xiang Mountains, but he allowed them to flutter through his consciousness like a lunar butterfly, willing them to rest in his memory and not rule the decisions of today. Winter meant slumber, but also renewal, and in the spirit of the season he would try to finsih the job his new herdmates had started.

Lost in thought, he was unaware of his close proximity to the stream and the mare that occupied it's edge. Or of the low hanging tree branch that presented itself all to suddenly with a loud THWACK to his armored head.

The mare's posture was still lazy, her head hanging close to the water's surface and her eyes glazed over, gazing into the river, when a loud THWACK and the soft jingling of bells snapped her out of her morning reverie. She jumped back, swinging her head around in surprise, frantically seeking the source of the noise with wide eyes. She had to pace hesitantly to the side before she sighted the figure of a white stallion, whom had - given his dazed look and the swinging branch - apparently had an unfortunate intimate encounter with the flora of the land.

She calmed down, visibly relaxing a fair bit before she chuckled softly, amused by the other soquili's misfortune. The mare lowered her head to get a better look at the stallion; though he was half-obscured by shadows and foliage, she admired his would-be regal disposition, but could do without the adornments. She teased him playfully, "Graceful."

Mentally cursing the Spirits for their unforgivable humor, Crousader shook his head gently and stepped beneath the offending branch and out into the bright sunlight.

Not the brightest of moves, now he was half blind. His blue eyes always took a moment longer then others to adjust to changing light, and he heard the playful voice before he saw her. In lieu of losing face before the stranger, he only blinked once (instead of rapidly) and turned his head in the direction he hoped the stranger was standing.

"I do strive for excellence..." he replied with a twinge of amused sarcasm, tilting his head to the side as his eyes finally refocused and she came into view. "And to who do I owe the pleasure?"

A soft chuckle led the way for the mare's answer, "Thera. My name is Thera." Amused eyes silently settled on the stallion as a clearer vision was achieved once he had stepped into the light. Upon seeing him in all his glory, she had to try hard to stifle a snort at the -- she didn't know what it was -- that he was wearing.

"And you?" she asked with a smile splayed on her face, "And the... embellishments? To what cause do they serve?" She could not help but mention the armor on the horse; it was the first she had ever seen of such strange things restricting another like her. Born a wild mare of the skies, she let no civilized being taint her until she stumbled upon these lands. Yet... the trappings held a humorous air in her view. A derisory giggle finally escaped a moment too soon, and the mare feigned a cough so as to attempt a cover-up.

Though he was the proud and prickly sort, he found that her soft chuckle did not elicit the usual snort of anger. "Well met m'lady Thera, I am Crousader. And these... " he paused to paw the ground with his armored forleg. "Are trappings of war. Or so I was told; to be honest I am not that fond of them come summer time." Beneath the faceplate his blue eyes glittered mischeviously at her attempted cover-up. "But as to their purpose, they acted as protection during the frequent territory fights of my youth."

Oddly he couldn't help the patronizing grin that pulled at the corners of his mouth. "Unfair advantage... perhaps... but all is fair in love and war."

Thera's grin was partially sheepish due to the shoddy cover up of her outburst. "All's fair in love and war? That's very true," she said, partially amused and pleased. She fluttered her wings, taking a playful stance as she continued, "But there's no war here. Why do you still wear them? I imagine they're stifling, if not irritating," she tilted her head, motioning toward the collar of silver metal pointedly. The noise would be a horrid annoyance for her, if the weight of the adornments were not. The bar in his mouth certainly looked like it would hinder everyday routines as well.

She paused, before adding hurriedly, "Not that they're not very... Pretty! Suit you very well, in fact. They just look uncomfortable, to me at least. Must have had a rough life with those fights in your youth. At least here, for the most part, peaceful coexistence thrives."
