The Memory

Notes: I was listening to this song on the way to my best friend's old house today, and it made me think of him and I... and so I'm mirroring it to this pairing.

Disclaimer: I don't own Memory, or Naruto.

[Naruto x Sasuke]

Naruto pushed his hands into his hoodie pocket. This icy wind was becoming more so annoying than comforting. He closed his eyes and lowered his head, his hair flipping slightly in the gusts, as he tried to shield himself from the torrent. This is one thing that he hated about Kohona's winters... they could be brutal at random times. When he had left the dormitory, the weather was nice, but as he walked along, the wind got considerably colder and stronger.

He knew he wasn't allowed to be outside because of the late hour, but there was a certain someone that he just felt like he really wanted to see. He walked as close to the side of the road as he could, trying to avoid being seen. He looked around as he reached a park, and then crossed the road and entered the dark forest area.

He walked slower and was able to relax a little as the wind died down because of the surrounding trees. He adjusted his hood behind his head as he walked, and re-tightened his headband. He put his hands back in his pocket, and then slowed to a stop as he looked up at a certain tree that held a degree of memories for him. Memories of being in his lover's warm arms, nuzzling into their neck and watching the stars.

He wished he could fix what had happened between them, although he didn't know what it was. He looked away from the huge tree and kept walking. They were fine one day, and then slowly they stopped talking to him, becoming more and more distant. Naruto started spending more and more nights alone, and he hated it. He also hated the fact that they were still "dating", and that they wouldn't tell him why he was being treated like this.

He reached the end of the woods and was hit by another burst of cold air. He felt his teeth chatter slightly, and tried to ignore it. A question began to resound in his head that was, "Is it worth this? Is he worth this?" Then he quickly quieted that question. He knew it was. He knew he wouldn't be turned away. Worst case scenario, he would get his answer then be left to walk home alone. He would at least get his answer, no matter what.

He reached his boyfriend's dorm area, and then walked up the stairs. He re-tightened his hoodie around himself as the wind blew him, his hair still flipping in the wind, and then knocked on the door. No one answered. 'Dammit don't you be asleep...' He knocked again, and then heard someone walking to the door.

Sasuke opened the door, wearing nothing but a shirt and pajama pants. He had obviously been asleep. "Uzumaki...?" Sasuke asked as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, starting at the freezing boy.

Naruto fell into him, wrapping his arms tightly around him, basking in the warmth. Sasuke jumped with Naruto's cold skin met his. "Holy s**t you're freezing!" He exclaimed as he pulled Naruto inside and closed the door. He sat the fox demon on his couch and went to get him some hot tea.

Naruto kept his hoodie on, and curled up slightly on the couch, trying to get his body heat back. Sasuke returned and placed the hot drink on the table before him. Naruto looked at the cup, then at Sasuke, and sighed softly.

"Thank you..." Naruto started when he was interrupted by Sasuke.

"Why in the hell are you out in this weather, idiot?! You could have passed out or something and then no one would have found you until the morning... unless it snowed, then you really wouldn't have had a chance..." Sasuke was fuming. Naruto looked down.

"I know it was a dumbass thing to do, and you don't have to tell me that. Hell I'm probably gonna be sick after this. I just came and wanted to know this." Naruto stood up, leaving his coldness and the warm drink behind. "Why the hell haven't you talked to me? Spent any time with me? You've pretty much dumped me without saying the words."

Sasuke stood there for a moment watching the blond. He knew this moment was going to come, and he had tried to prepare for it, but he was at a loss of words. There was almost despair in the boy's voice, as if he were clinging onto a dying memory... which he was.

"I mean, you've practically ignored me. You're regarding me as you did before we even met, and I really want to know why... I hate it that you can just walk past me as if I'm not even there, that you can just treat me as if I'm some insignificant demon who doesn't deserve acknowledgement or existence. You're treating me just like everyone else does." Naruto looked down.

That last part stung Sasuke like a knife. He looked at him.

"You know the risks of the life we live, Naruto. You know that every day, by putting on those damned headbands we're putting our lives at risk. Don't you remember what Kakashi-sensei told us? That we had to be ready to lose any of our teammates at any time?" He kept a stern stare at the boy who was now looking at him.

"I've lost my entire family, Naruto. You know that. I killed the one who showed me to love and to hate. After all of that, the entire ordeal, you were the only one who stuck with me. Who stood by my side. Who ******** cared for me. If I were to lose you, I have no idea what I would do. I don't want to be hurt again, Uzumaki..!" He was stopped by a punch to the face.

"Do you know how self centered that sounds? I understand your problems, but I was born with mine! Being born with a trapped demon fox inside of me, having the entire village shun me, almost losing you I don't even remember HOW many times... I don't want to lose you either! I know that if I were to lose you I would be broken. But I'm willing to take that risk, because I love you. Don't you get it? I care so much about you, I don't care how much pain it causes me. Just as long as you're in my life and by my side..." He was then interrupted with a kiss. Sasuke wrapped his arms tightly around him, kissing almost forcefully. Naruto closed his eyes and melted in his arms, returning what he could. Sasuke then broke away slightly, opening his eyes.

"Naruto... don't say anymore... please.." Naruto looked at him, and realized that his tirade had brought him to tears. "It was already hurting me to know that I was trying to distance myself from you, but..." He sighed. "I don't know why I didn't realize it before..." Naruto then kissed him, stopping him mid-sentence. He then broke away slightly.

"Just no more words..." Naruto whispered quietly into Sasuke's ear, then he rested his head against Sasuke's neck, rubbing his face against it gently. Sasuke slowly walked them to his bedroom and then went to get Naruto's drink. Naruto slid off his hoodie and rested it on Sasuke's desk chair, and laid down on the bed. Sasuke locked the door and then turned out the light to the main room. He closed the door to his bedroom as he entered it, and then turned off the light, leaving the moon to illuminate the room. He slid in bed behind his boy, and gently kissed along his neck and ears.

Naruto turned over to face him and then Sasuke wrapped his arms around him. Naruto slid his arms around Sasuke's chest, loosely holding them together behind his back. Sasuke kissed him, closing his eyes. Naruto did the same, pressing into the kiss gently, and then breaking it to breath. Sasuke opened his eyes and smiled at his boyfriend, and then brought an arm up to rub it through his hair.

"Oh... Naruto, look.." Sasuke spoke as he raised his hand to point to the window. Naruto strained to look over, and then smiled. There were snow flakes falling. Sasuke kept a grin as he pulled the demon fox against him. "Looks like you could very well be stuck here for a while." Naruto smiled and gently nibbled at his neck.

"I wouldn't mind that at all." He said as he closed his eyes and rested his head against Sasuke's, giving in to sleep. Sasuke kissed his forehead gently and then rested back against him.

"I love you. Goodnight, Naru."
