From: Grant Naylor Administrator Date: Sunday, February 16, 2003 04:27 PM Doug Naylor was quoted in a recent interview as saying that the future of the TV show relates to Red Dwarf's cinematic release. A series will not happen until the movie is complete, and should the film prove a success, more are possible. There is always the possibility of a ninth series, however; or TV specials. The Rimmer/Death cliffhanger could also be resolved in other media - but until the film is complete, no specific plans can be made. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok stop... rewind... Quote: could also be resolved in other media that could mean they could be doing a matrix on us and fill plot holes with a cartoon/comic/game So my irradiated haggis counting friends, what do you think about all this?

I think... I've just about lost any hope of anything else to do with the Dwarf. crying heart
However, I dunno how popular it still is in England, etc. I know it's bascially a cult classic here in America, but that basically means that a few know and love it and the rest are ignorant of its existence. Which means no help for it, pretty much.
Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah. Complete and utter depression in regards to RD's future. 'Scuse me while I go find a Despair Squid to make the picture complete.

Yes, I'm quite aware that Red Dwarf is an English show; you think I'm co-captain of this guild just because of my good looks? xd
I just meant that it's a fairly old show now by TV standards and I've little hope of it ever continuing... but I could be entirely wrong and maybe there'll be a huge burst of activity on it. Who knows?

I still have hope for the movie, although it's fading quickly. I don't think I'd want to see a ninth season. Seven and eight just weren't the quality of the first six, and there's no reason to think a ninth would be any better. As far as other media- as long as the Grant and/or Naylor were involved, that would be fine. But it wouldn't be real RD to me if just anyone was making up storylines. There wouldn't be any continuity, for one thing. Second, too many people have their own ideas about the characaters, and that would show in what they produced. I'd rather have what we already have in pure RD form.
(I don't mind fan fiction, though, because that doesn't pretend to be an official part of the series.)

Too bad they did not go back to making the series after the found out they could not get money for the movie.
