Growing up, Atlas was the eldest child in his small family. His mother and father both ran a bakery in their small town and worked early mornings and were exhausted by the time they would return home. Atlas would get himself to school, come home, finish his homework and lose himself into his art. As he got older, his art progressed but he also started playing video games. His parents weren't too thrilled about his decision to spend more time on video games than he was in his art, but they weren't home until late in the evening to monitor his gaming time. Soon enough, his art fell to the side.
Half way through high school, Atlas started streaming his games. It started out as a hobby to do with his friends, but slowly became more involved and soon enough he was working full time while finish school. His grades started to drop to average C's. Managing to graduate was easy, and since he already had a job lined up, it wasn't difficult. By nineteen he was moved out into a small townhouse where he was able to continue streaming.
Hearing about the game, Atlas immediately had to apply for it. He got in, did the testing and left for the Beta. Returning home sucked, but he couldn't wait for the game to release.

xx ATLAS TEMPT xxx♔ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━𝔥𝔢𝔞𝔩𝔱𝔥: 100/100 || 𝔴𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢: Kris.. Others || 𝔣𝔢𝔢𝔩𝔦𝔫𝔤 : Weirdly Nervous || 𝔴𝔢𝔞𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤: Clothing
This hadn't been his initial plan. If that had gone through, Atlas would have been here a day or two earlier, to surprise Kris but a storm came in canceling his earlier flight. He was stuck until the actual day he was supposed to leave. While it would have been nice to surprise the other developer, spend some time with her outside the games they play together, there wasn’t much of a choice. By the time he touched down and ended up in his hotel room near the campus, Atlas was exhausted and smelled of people and airplane food. As much as he wanted to go and see the other, he wanted a nap. Crashing in the airport the night before wasn’t comfortable. This time, he at least remembered to set an alarm to give him plenty of time to get up, shower, and take an uber from his hotel to a flower store to the campus. While he could have stayed in the dorms, he much preferred the comfort of a hotel room and with his streaming job, money wasn’t too much of an issue.
Eventually, a shower had been had and clothing was pulled on with his shoes. Atlas wasn’t exactly sure what the dress code was but he knew he was drinking and didn’t want to pass out from heat. Once his hair was dried, he pulled that up into a higher ponytail with a large hair tie, one of the oversized ones. When the phone went off to signal his scheduled uber was here, Atlas slid his phone into his pocket and left the hotel room. The first stop was the flower shop where he had preordered what looked like the worst flower that could be given. But they were an inside joke. A bundle of fox and cat tails. Weeds. But it wasn’t about the actual gift, it was the meaning behind it.
When the uber pulled up, Atlas actually felt some excitement build up at the idea of seeing Kris. It had been awhile and while they spent a lot of time gaming and video chatting it didn’t feel like the same. What he wasn’t expecting was the giant circle of people as soon as he came into the building. His height provided him some sort of advantage as he came up behind the shorter woman, putting the bundle of cat and fox tails directly in front of her.
”Maybe you could take some lessons on how to live from these. They don’t die as easily as your do.”

Following New Years, Atlas had to return home in order to fulfill his contract with his stream team. Even this trip was just a vacation of sorts. Atlas and Kris had been long distance and it seemed to work out. They would spend time gaming, she would give him updates, they would play games together while he streamed. Screen sharing allowed them to have movie nights together where they would eat dinner and take turns picking out movies. Long distance was hard, especially for Atlas who was someone who was affectionate towards others, especially physical. He enjoyed the cuddling, holding and hugging. Being apart made this all hard, but he would do what he needed in order to see her, even if it meant months in part.
This visit, Kris had an entire set up in her dorm for him. There was plenty of room, they were rather large. He planned on telling her after the announcement that his contract was coming to an end and for them to decide what the next step would be. Did she want to stay in this small town or did she want to move somewhere else? Atlas didn't want to take her away from her job and what she built and it was a lot easier for him to move his job around. He just needed to know in order to negotiate his next contract, but he wouldn't do it if Kris didn't want him to.
Now though, he was going to surprise Kris down at the event to hear her speech. He had spent most of the day in the game since the servers were live. The demi-human had just finished a gathering quest and was now on his way back to the main city in order to turn his quest in, collect his reward and return to the bookstore where he had found an in game job. The ability to have high end items outside the game was nice, but he wasn't one to buy things he didn't need, he carried that over in game. Working at the bookstore, was nice, quiet and had met several people coming in. For now though, it was time for him to go before he got caught up in the game and ended up missing the speech.
Pausing at a nearby inn, Knox pulled up the in game menu, his eyes going directly to where the normal log out button wasn't there. Had there been a menu change? It didn't look like anything had changed, but he spent the several minutes looking for each, individual menu to find the disconnect. Kris did not warn him on anything like this.
Nothing. There was nothing. Not a single disconnect button on any screen.
"What the hell...?
