Sitting on one of the grassy rocks sat a girl with long blonde hair outstretched from one side of her head. The girl known as Kiana, sat in silence as she watched the sunlight reflecting off the colorful water, creating a pretty sparkling effect. She was using her weapon to poke at the tiny waterfall where she sat, creating tiny ripple effects. Her weapon would dip under than poke back up, basically she was bored. What she needed was a job, but was she old enough to get one? Was there a requirement in age? The only reason behind it was that she wished for a super cool job like her sister had. The thing was, she couldn't become a guard too. Not when she sucked at fighting, and hated it. She would be better suited at a restaurant or cuddling animals. The second was her best dream of a job though. There didn't even appear to be any animals nearby as of yet, sometimes there were a bit. This place was her spot when she needed time to think or relax. Basically, she came here a lot. It was quite peaceful, the sound of the water was silent but you could hear the slightest movement. She was bORED. Kiana needed something, anything to do or she would go crazy with boredom! The fox girl began flinging rocks, throwing them on the water and seeing how far she could chuck it. "I'm gonna be the best at rock throwing! The very best like no one ever was!!" Kiana shouted to herself, standing up now and throwing as many rocks as she could, but every single rock really didn't reach too far. Disappointed, she sat back down. Damn, this boredom sucked. She'd go find and bug her sister, but she didn't wish to tell her the reasons why she hadn't been home or seen her 'friend'. She didn't really know anyone else, but she sat, watching any birds flocking down to get a drink. Watching them, looking out for all these animals. They came here for peace from predators, and she made her own job to look out for these animals, care for them when they were sick, anything to see them safe and happy! Animals were really her only friend, and while to others that might sound sad, she didn't think it was! Animals were sometimes better anyways.

Kiana stared into the sky as she sat down, watching the clouds floating passed. The air was peaceful, serene, and quiet. The elf village was always very quiet, it was actually quite nice though. The longer she sat, the more she knew the animals would be safe here. She had guarded the area for enough of the day, stretching out her legs and arms, cracking some stiffness here and there. It was time to move on, adventuring for a little bit seemed nice! In fact, she'd wish to head over to the beastman's hometown, that place was super nice and she kinda missed it there. It was almost like a second home to her. Kiana sat up, walking off, hoping to get there fast. So naturally, she shifted into her fox form and dashed off into the distance. Her long tail poked above the blades of grass, moving down until she was out of sight. [EXIT]

✭✭✭ Since the last attack Khal had busied himself with work, more so than usual. It got to the point where he was clearly burning himself out which worried some of the other servants. An elderly woman who he worked closely with begged Khal to take a little time to himself today, claiming she would cover his duties. At first he refused her but she was stubborn. She said that if Khal continued on as he was the quality of his work would suffer for it, and so she insisted that he must take it easy. Not wanting to cause any trouble for anyone Khal decided to give in and took a stroll outside of the castle for the first time in a long time.
Not everyone realized it, but being a servant was a very busy job. There was almost always something to clean in the castle, and when he wasn't cleaning he was cooking, and when he wasn't cooking he was making repairs, and so on and so forth. With his job being so demanding he typically only ever left the castle to do shopping for ingredients for the royal dinner which never gave him much time to look around. Now he was taking in every little detail of his surrounding before wandering almost to the edge of the city to where this beautiful lake lied.
The sunlight seemed to glistened off of the clear waters, as the soft sound of flowing water was like music to Khal's ears. With a small smile he walked to the water's edge and sat down. He slided off his thick boots and crossed his legs, getting into a meditative position. Often when Khal was alone he took to meditating as a way to calm his near constantly worrying mind.
Breathing in and out slowly he focused on the sounds around him. The water, the birds, the soft wind... It was all so calming. Before he could even realize it Khal had passed out completely on the side of the lake, resting for the first time in many sleepless nights. For about an hour he rested peacefully. His long white hair was out of its bun and spread out wildly around him. He seemed so out peace until a sudden burst of pain shot through his chest, waking him from his sleep.
Khal's eyes shot open with a loud gasp. He breathing became ragged as he got on his hands and knees and started frantically coughing until no sound was coming out. It was as if he was choking, but he knew that wasn't the case. Why are they drawing on my powers during the day? They usually are only active at night, Khal thought, referring to his family. To be honest, he was struggling sleeping because the pain from his chest mark was kicking in again. For some reason his family seemed to be drawing on his power more than usual, and not knowing why made Khal more concerned than the act itself.
This by far was one of the worst shots of pain that he has felt recently, with the pain slowly changing into what felt almost like a heart attack. Collapsing face first on the ground Khal continued to feel like he was suffocating, even though he wasn't. His chest felt like a huge weight was pressing on it and that his ribs would burst at any moment. His eyes flickered from their demon form to their typical brown appearance before Khal closed them tightly and tried to think of anything pleasant to distract him from the horrible feeling he was experiencing. ✭✭✭ ═━┈┈┈━═ ✭Khal's Love Interest: I'm not sure if I'll ever find love... ✭Khal's Wearing: Black pants, work boots, belt, and a white loose long sleeve shirt

*Mahanon, Lunar Guardian* "A lesson in runes will do you right...come" Due to recent events, Mahanon and the rest of the various army factions of 'iilhi has been extremely busy. Mahanon for once had the day off. The Lunar Guardian left his home and was walking through the outskirts. Something in him was telling him to stay on guard. There's been several skirmishes with the demons lately. Mahanon sighed as he enjoyed the simple breezes of the day. The day was beautiful. The High Mother would still allow the kingdom to have daytime. But when things would get serious, the night would take over. Empowering the Lunar Guardians. The tiny Lunar Guardian blinked as he felt an air of uncomfort and pain. Peaking over he noticed someone was hunched over by the streams. "Are you alright?" Mahanon said quickly walking over to them. As Mahanon finally got closer to the hunching over body his eyes widened. "Khalfani?! Khal?!" Mahanon said in a flurry of worry. Bolting quicker over to Khalfani, Mahanon kneeled down beside him. "Khal..I need you talk to me..were you attacked?" Mahanon said looking around. Scanning the area for possible threats. Nothing? Nothing was there. Mahanon looked back and helped the dark elf back on his butt in a sitting position. Mahanon then remembered the rune on his face. Using his free hand, Mahanon used his finger to sketch a rune in the dirt and grass. "Don't reject me, lay back" Mahanon commanded then. Mahanon's voice was stern, it was motherly, his voice was worried. Guiding Khalfani to lay on his back on top of the rune he sketched. "Rejhuvi" Mahanon chanted into his rune Khalfani was now resting on. The rune shined in a warm and radiant green. The healing magic wrapped around Khalfani's body. The warm and radiant green aura lingered around Khalfani's body. Working to ease his pain and even stave off what was causing his pain. Mahanon sighed as he finished charging the rune he sketched out. The Lunar Guardian lifted his hand. His hand running through his greyish hair. His hair illuminating in the sunlight. "Khal, are you okay? Take your time on sitting back up" Mahanon said smiling sweetly down to Khalfani. Mahanon sat next to Khalfani as the rune finished working it's healing effects. "I won't try to intrude....So, It's nice to finally see you again" Mahanon said smiling as he tried his best to change the subject. Mahanon deeply wanted to get down to business and know why that rune was on Khalfani's face. What was the history? What pain was he staving off? Or what plague was he trying to keep in check? Mahanon mentally hit himself. The lunar guardian shouldn't intrude in other's business. But when it came to runes he just couldn't help himself. "The High Mothers shadow...is where I walk"

✭✭✭ Being in so much pain Khal wasn't on guard as usual, so he was oblivious to the approaching man. It wasn't until Mahanon knelt down next to him that Khal pushed himself up on his elbow a bit and looked at him with one eye open. He wanted to speak but couldn't bring himself to form any words. All he did was shake his head no when asked if he was attack, and other than that there wasn't much else he could communicate to the man.
At least I'm not screaming... Khal thought as he recalled that the worst of the pain included feeling like his blood was boiling. All he could do was hope that it wouldn't go that far. Luckily, with Mahanon being so gifted with runes, Khal pain not only ceased to get worse but it was stopped all together. Gently he found himself being pressed against the ground where a rune had been drawn and before he knew it a warm light was covering his shaking body. The longer the light enveloped him the more symptoms started to subside. First his shaking stopped, then he was able to breathe normally, and soon he was able to speak again.
"I... I'm fine... This happens sometimes," Khal replied between deep breaths. He allowed himself to ease into the comforting feeling of the rune and was able to calm down in no time. One of his hands went up to his chest where he could feel some heat radiating from his mark. The heat radiating through his shirt let him know that the mark was still in effect and probably would be for a little while longer, so he'd have no choice but to stay within Mahanon's healing rune. "Thank you. I am sorry that this is how we meet again," Khal said with a soft and somewhat nervous laughter. "I'm sure this was not quite what you were expecting upon seeing me again."
As Khal looked up at Mahanon he wondered if perhaps it would be ok to trust this man a bit more. From what Khal could tell he had kept his secret like he promised, and he seemed kind in nature. This was the second time he was helping him out even though Mahanon owed him nothing. That said plenty about his character. "Truly, thank you for this. The pain doesn't always get like this. It's usually not as bad. Other times it is worse," Khal admitted. "You say you won't intrude, and I believe you, but I can see it in your eyes Mahanon. You are a man of knowledge yes? Men like you can't help but to question and seek answers. It seems that your kind heart is simply conflicting with your desire for knowledge which is why you hesitate to ask. I can't promise that I can answer everything, but it would be wrong of me to take your help and leave you clueless. So you may ask and I'll do my best to explain things." As Khal spoke there was a bit of shakiness in his voice that revealed his nervousness. Many wouldn't expect someone like Khal to be so easily worried but the truth was Khal lived in near constant anxiety and it was hurting him more and more with each passing day. He was growing tired of fearing his family, of fearing judgement, and of fearing himself, but he didn't quite know how to push past any of that yet. ✭✭✭ ═━┈┈┈━═ ✭Khal's Love Interest: I'm not sure if I'll ever find love... ✭Khal's Wearing: Black pants, work boots, belt, and a white loose long sleeve shirt

*Mahanon, Lunar Guardian* "A lesson in runes will do you right...come" Mahanon listened as Khalfani attempted to explain the situation. The smaller dark elf gave gentle and friendly hum as he looked back to the stream. Unzipping his heeled booties and taking them off; Mahanon placed his tiny feet into the cool water. Placing the boots next to Khalfani's. The cool rushing water over his feet was relaxing yet chilling. Mahanon stayed silent as Khalfani called him out. The taller dark elf was very much correct. Mahanon had an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Although his gentle and kind heart would often conflict and get in the way of that hunger. Mahanon sighed as he looked up from the sparkling and rushing water. The beaming rays of light blanketed Mahanon's features. Mahanon had a more bright glow to his beauty. Entirely different from the glow he would receive from the rays of the moon. Mahanon was processing Khalfani's words. Mahanon was mentally at war with himself. What should he ask? How should he ask? More importantly why would he ask? A calm and slow breath of air escaped Mahanon's lips. "I only have one theory...I only need one answer....." Mahanon said not looking to Khalfani as of yet. There was another momentary pause. Mahanon looked from the sky and back to Khalfani. "Someone...or a group of people..; they're siphoning...taking...power from you" Mahanon began to lead into his question. Mahanon's face was his normal sweet, gentle and kind. But his aura was hungry. Hungry for an answer and hungry for a least the simplest bite. "That's why you have that rune on your face; to stave off the effects and heal you...isn't it?" Mahanon finally questioned Khalfani. Mahanon eyes had a twinge of sadness to them. The sparkling grey eyes twinkled with a speck of worry and hunger. "The High Mothers shadow...is where I walk"

✭✭✭ Khal's eyes widened as Mahanon jumped to the correct conclusion of the first go. He thought he had been living discretely, but perhaps the man saw part of his chest rune one time? But when? Since he was a master of runes he'd surely recognize the mark on him right away, but Khal made sure to only remove his clothes when alone. Maybe the healing rune on his face revealed more than he thought? Honestly, it didn't really matter what Mahanon's thought process was. He arrived at the scary truth and the only thing more frightening to Khal would be if he could guess why he was being drained of power.
For what seemed like a ling time Khal just laid there in silence. He was usually good with words, but at this moment they were all escaping him. It wasn't until he felt the mark on his chest cool down, signally the end of the power draining, that he sat up and started to speak. The moment Khal sat himself up and inched away from the rune on the dirt its magic vanished. Khal positioned himself closer to Mahanon as he said, "Yes... The rune on my face can't counteract the siphoning... but it acts as a big pain reliever and can help me bounce back from the siphoning once it ends." Khal then brushed back his white hair, damp with sweat now, and sighed. In his eyes was a sense of sadness and regret. Despite the mark on his chest not being his fault he felt guilty about just being a living power source for his twisted family. The longer he lived the more powerful they got, and who knew what they planned to do with that power? It was hard to imagine that there was a time where he admired them all. Now all he could do was pray that they find a better way one day. "How did you guess? I knew you were a genius, but never would I have imagined my secret to be so noticeable to you or to anyone." ✭✭✭ ═━┈┈┈━═ ✭Khal's Love Interest: I'm not sure if I'll ever find love... ✭Khal's Wearing: Black pants, work boots, belt, and a white loose long sleeve shirt

*Mahanon, Lunar Guardian* "A lesson in runes will do you right...come" Mahanon's eyes instantly lost their hunger when Khalfani confirmed his theory. "I was hoping I was wrong....." Mahanon sadly looked to Khalfani. Mahanon looked back to the crystal waters that splashed and waded around his feet. Mahanon looked back up to the beautiful scenery. "The Lunar Guardians use those types of runecraft when dealing with prisoners of war. My mother and father educated me on them; I've even seen them used in person" Mahanon said lifting his hands to his hair. His hands lifting his hair off his neck to feel the passing breeze loop around his now exposed neck. "I've even had to place them on enemies of the High Mother. I'm very well versed with those types of runes symptoms and effects" Mahanon said letting his hair fall back down. "I.....I am sorry for forcing you to share such information with me. It was selfish and you didn't deserve that..." Mahanon sadly apologized not looking to Khalfani then. Mahanon truly felt like crap. Moments like this made Mahanon truly detest his constant thirst and drive for hunger. "Those such runes...were created by the elven houses that first defected to the demon kingdom. Joining the magic and runes with the demons magic and power. New sets of runes were crafted and handed down to the dark elven descendants. That is until majority of the dark elves returned to their kingdom" Mahanon said giving a quick history lesson. Mahanon lifted his tiny legs out of the water. Extending them outward. Watching the cool and sparkling water run off his legs and back into the water. "You're truly incredible. Truly, Khalfani. To deal with this sort of thing everyday. Very very few even survive a day with those types of cursed runes placed on them.....I'm so sorry you must face this..." Mahanon said tilting his head as he slowly lowered his legs back into the water. "An incredible gentle giant if you ask me" Mahanon said finally looking back to Khalfani and smiling sweetly to him. "The High Mothers shadow...is where I walk"

✭✭✭ Khal's look shifted when he noticed Mahanon's own guilt. He could see that the man felt bad about questioning Khal when he had no to. Did Khal like talking about his mark? No. But Mahanon was a Lunar Knight and a rune scholar. It was his job to know things to ensure the safety of the kingdom, which made Khal feel all the more bad about keeping perhaps the even bigger part of the secret still hidden away. At this point it was less about distrusting Mahanon and more of not wanting to put him in a position where he would have to lie to the High Mother. If Mahanon found out what Khal truly was he knew he'd have to report it and if he didn't then he'd be putting himself at risk. It was all just one big complicated mess.
As Mahanon explained the history behind siphoning runes Khal listened carefully. His extensive knowledge continued to impress him and made Khal feel foolish for ever thinking that someone as smart as Mahanon wouldn't be able to notice what was going on. "I see... So even this kingdom resorts to such... measures," Khal said, disappointment clear in his tone. He thought this kingdom would be better than his family, but maybe in some ways they were right. Maybe this kingdom has its own dark secrets within it.
"And please, don't apologize, for asking questions or for my life. Many people wonder what is wrong with me but you are the only one to have figured it out. As for my pain, that is not your doing. I suppose I have more strength in me than I thought to have lived this long with my mark if it really is as deadly as you say. I was just a boy when this thing was placed on me and have carried it ever since. There was actually a time when I thought it was a good thing. Silly right?" Khal said as his hand went back over his chest where his mark was. "A gentle giant you say?" Khal chuckled. "If only..."
Despite always being kind and caring towards other Khal couldn't get the thought that he was a monster out of his head. He remembered the way he'd attack other children during training. He remembered the few instances where the anger and pain took over and he snapped, unleashing his powers in uncontrollable ways. It were these instanced that lead him to practice over and over again to make sure that he limited the amount of people he hurt, but even so he still felt like it wasn't enough.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to Khal. "Wait, you say you are well versed in these runes Mahanon. Do you think that there's a chance that if you studied mine you could discover how to remove it? Or at least find a way to cancel it out with another rune? There is so much to be explained here, and I hope one day soon I can tell you everything, but for now what's important to know is that my power is being siphoned by bad people. These people haven't always been bad but the more of my power they take the more they seem to let it control them. I fear that they may be planning to use my power for dark deeds in the future and I can't just sit back and let them do that. So... Do you think you could help me? I'd be eternally in your debt." ✭✭✭ ═━┈┈┈━═ ✭Khal's Love Interest: I'm not sure if I'll ever find love... ✭Khal's Wearing: Black pants, work boots, belt, and a white loose long sleeve shirt

*Mahanon, Lunar Guardian* "A lesson in runes will do you right...come" Mahanon eye's widened a bit and blinked as Khalfani had a sudden change in his attitude. Mahanon was honestly shocked and taken a bit back. Khalfani as he knew so far was very reserved and would rather put others first. So this was a bit of a shock. Shaking his head a bit Mahanon gave an adorable yet confident scoff. "A question like that? The answer should be apparent" Mahanon said with a confident smile that was followed by an adorable hair flip. The tiny dark elves lustrous grey hair sway in the wind as it was flipped. "The process would be simple. Study the rune. It's very placement, it's purpose, it's design. Then isolate all that to find it's origins. What land it hails from. What house and bloodline curated it" Mahanon said as he started on his text book runology tangent. Mahanon went to speak again but stopped himself. Realizing he was basically rambling on about runes and their study. Clearing his throat and composing himself Mahanon nodded. "I mean, We would have to come to my home. To my library..for me to truly study and to truly give you the best of my help...." Mahanon said scratching his cheek a bit nervously. Mahanon stood up then. Giving a small stretch. As he was done stretching he knelt down then. Putting back on his heeled booties. Looking back to Khalfani, Mahanon placed a hand on his hip. "If what you're telling me is true....Someone or a group of people currently stand as a threat to not only 'iilhi; but also to your sister and more importantly. You" Mahanon said simply then. "As a Lunar Guardian; I can't allow that, now can i?" Mahanon said with a small giggle as his voice was charged with a reassuring power. Mahanon began to walk towards the direction of his home. "Well? Are you going to sit there? We have work to do. I'm a tiny person you know, I can't just walk home all alone" Mahanon said looking back to Khalfani. Teasing the taller dark elf with a small laugh. "The High Mothers shadow...is where I walk"

✭✭✭ Khal couldn't help but to awkwardly laugh after asking for help. it definitely was out of character for him, but he didn't know what else to do. The pain he could take, however, the thought of innocent people getting hurt by the power he was supplying others he could not. In this case he figured that maybe the best way to help everyone was to help himself for once. Damn... I guess Mari had a point... Khal thought as he flash backed to the multiple times Mari begged him to take care of himself.
Sitting in silence, Khal watched as Mahanon stood, towering above him for the first time in forever. Looking up at the usually much smaller man, Khal listened. His eyes followed him as he moved and when Mahanon mentioned that to study the rune they'd need to go to his house he nodded. "Mari certainly will be mad about missing a lesson like this," Khal commented with a small laugh before standing up and walking behind Mahanon. "Trust me, my life is no more important than anyone else. If anything-" Khal wanted to say "if anything my death would be a simple solution to this mess" but he didn't wish to startled Mahanon. He was such a kind man who had the beauty of the moon and the warmth of the sun. Khal didn't want to shake him up too much in one day.
Instead Khal let the negative thought drift away as Mahanon started to tease him. He chuckled as he replied, "I suppose I am now obligated to return to your home with you then. To ensure your safety and all." Clearly Mahanon needed no protection. He was very strong and very wise but Khal decided to try his own hand at joking around. He did it so often with Mari, so why shouldn't he give it a try with others for once?
