Introduction to Hornfels Hollow

Your first clue is the yipping. Alone it would be a small sound, but together, with so many voices, the noise can't be ignored. You slow. Do you care to proceed? Is this the path you want to take? The second clue is the pawprints. Large, medium, small, but plentiful. This ground has been trodden often. It's not hard to tell what animal would make such a print. You've seen their ilk before. Your feet feel leaden and your amble slows to a halt. Large Pines and Spruces surround you. Enclose you. You can hear the sounds of water trickling far off, beyond the wall of vegetation, but its exact location is unknown to you. Too bad, it could lead you far from here. Behind, the snap of a twig. You flinch unintentionally. Do you dare turn? Face the monsters you know are lurking? No. You stay still, silent. Unseen?

Not unseen.

You can feel their approach as the hair on the back of your neck stands on end. Will they devour you? Will they welcome you? Will you bare your throat or fight your last fight?

Location + Environment

Located in the Bluestone Mountains, Hornfels Hollow is a cave carved out of the side of one of the mountains. With a neatly hidden entrance and a low ceiling, it makes the ideal den for the pack. Well below the timberline - the area is covered by large conifer trees mixed with some deciduous. There is a mountain stream that flows into the territory and due to beaver intervention, has formed a small lake. Food is scarce during the winter months but plentiful during the warmer months. Typical animals in the area are caribou, deer, ground hogs, marmots, bears, cougars, moose, elk, salmon, lynx, owls, etc.

Traditions

The pack has few traditions, since it is very young. The only tradition to date is that yearlings are run out of the pack during their first spring and expected to return in the fall. This is to promote personal growth and knowledge, as well as provide the pack with info on the other packs.

Mating: There are no rules in regards to mates. Taking a mate is fine, same sex mates are fine and not finding a mate is fine. If a female is pregnant, the pups are raised by the whole pack, whether the father is in the picture is irrelevant.

Territory: Depending on the situation, most wolves are allowed beyond the border of the territory. While it is expected for the Beta or Alpha to be notified before a wolf decides to leave the pack boundary, it is rare for them to refuse to let a wolf go. Meeting outsiders is a good way to bring new blood into the pack, however, if the wolf in question is unstable the Beta / Alpha may refuse the request. Wolves need to return in the fall in order to help provide for the pack during winter or they will be denied re-entry into the pack.

Hunting: Hunting can be done alone or with others, though pairs is the usual for the pack. The beta daily assigns an area to a pair to either scope out or bring in what they find. Dawn and Dusk are the normal hunting times but during the day is also an option. At night the pack returns to the hollow.

Timeline


Year 0 = Spring
Permafrost meets Cloudberry.
Marble meets Sand Breeze.

Year 0 - Summer
Permafrost gets separated from Cloudberry (+his family) during a bear attack.
Sand Breeze has 4 cubs, she tries to kill them and Marble takes them away.

Year 0 - Autumn
Permafrost has 2 cubs alone.

Year 0 - Winter

Year 1 - Spring
Permafrost's cubs leave her.
Tiger Eye stays with Marble when the rest of her siblings leave as teenagers.

Year 1 - Summer
Marble meet Polar Sun, they become mates.
Tiger Eye leaves Marble - meets Bitter Frost and becomes pregnant
Permafrost meets Frost Shatter, they become mates.

Year 1 - Autumn
Tiger Eye returns to Polar Sun & Marble. Polar sun is also pregnant and they have their litters at the same time.

Year 1 - Winter
Polar Sun takes in a starving bunny named Tufa and nurses her back to health.

Year 2 - Spring
Once Tiger Eye's and Polar Sun's litters are old enough - the teenagers venture into the world. Fell Field and Crystal Flurry decide to stay.
Permafrost / Frost Shatter arrive - Polar Sun and Frost Shatter fight for alpha position. Frost Shatter wins and Polar Sun becomes his beta.
Tiger Eye leaves the pack in the spring to explore, she meets a male named Echo.
Marble and Fell Field meet a female wolf named Evening Storm and she joins the pack.

Year 2 - Summer
Tiger Eye has 3 pups with Echo. She leaves 2 daughters in his care and decides to return with the male pup named Scree Slurry.
Cloudberry leaves his pack, looking for Permafrost and meets Tiger Eye / Scree Slurry. He travels with them.
Crystal Flurry experiences her first berserker rage in the summer and attacks Fell Field.
Shade in Total Darkness and Gaze into the Abyss meet. They decide to travel together.

Year 2 - Autumn
Most of the pack meet the Alpha Two Tone and Kindle from the Dawnstar Pack. An alliance is formed.
Cloudberry, Tiger Eye and Scree Slurry arrive to the pack. Cloudberry is shocked to find Permafrost mated, but decides to stay anyways.
Shade in Total Darkness and Gaze into the Abyss come across Permafrost and Crystal Flurry and they are convinced to stay with the pack for the winter.
Boulder and Invisible Shade meet Permafrost and she asks them to join the pack.

Year 2 - Winter
A time of hunkering down and forming familial bonds
Permafrost becomes pregnant with Frost Shatter's pups. 3 Healthy pups are born.
Marble and Polar Sun also have 3 healthy winter pups.
Chaos, Clover, Tawny, Ice Wave, Old Snow, Darkness Comes Quickly, Sootsnout & Sootface arrive amidst the flurries and join the pack.
Sootsnout and Melting Point welcome 2 new littles.
Evening Storm and Fell Field has some late winter pups - 4 new additions join the pack.

Year 3 - Spring
As the snow melts, sprouts grow and new adventures start.

Pack Hierarchy

The Alpha wolf is the highest, most respected wolf in the pack. His word is law and if another member of the pack has an issue, a duel will be issued between the Alpha and the contender.

The Beta wolf is the second in command and defers only to the alpha. They are the right hand who deal with the more mundane tasks to help the pack run smoothly. They are generally the busiest wolf in the pack.

The members and companion animals of the pack are there for the camaraderie, the protection and the aid in gathering food that comes with being a part of the pack.

Hornfels Hollow does NOT have any omegas in the pack, nor condone any particularly harsh or unjust behaviour.
Frost Shatter and Polar Sun will not tolerate any abuse to any member under their protection.
To do so would result in banishment from the pack.


Position Duties
Alpha : In charge of the overall pack well being + protection.
Beta : In charge of daily tasks - arranges hunts | makes sure mothers have pup coverage | etc.
Member : To follow the directions of the Alpha + Beta. Required to help the pack in some way - whether hunting | scouting | etc.
Companion Animal : To follow the directions of the Alpha + Beta. Required to help the pack in some way if capable.

Want to Join the pack?

Hornfels Hollow is mainly family at this point - but they are welcoming /accepting to all new members.

If you want to join the pack and are a new member - please pm me or discord DM me ( Fitzy #8408 ). Let me know your wolf's personality so I know a bit about them / know if they are a good fit. We can also discuss how they joined the pack. Preferably we could do a joining the pack RP but that is not required if you are not into RPing - plotting is always a good avenue too. If there's any plots you have in mind let me know as well, I'm pretty flexible.

If your wolf is part of the family line - they are automatically accepted into the pack, however please message me and we can discuss.

RP Rules?

I do not require a minimum amount of participation when it comes to RPing. I will make sure the bi-monthly requirements for RP are met.

RP should only be up to current pack time -- they can be before or during the current pack time, just not later (a.k.a the future).
(e.g - if we are in Year 2 Winter, don't RP Year 3 Spring. You can however RP events before Year 2 Winter).

Labelling for RP:
SRP - Self RP is for one wolf - can be first person perspective
PRP - Private RP - RP for only those who have agreed to RP together
ORPP - Open RP Pack - Open RP for any packmember to join.
ORPE - Open RP Everyone - Open RP for anyone to join but must be set near / on packlands.
ERP - Event RP - Will be explained but this would be a major event in the pack timeline.
