Laying in wait seems like a good idea. There's plenty of places to hide in the abandoned camp, and you settle yourself with your weapon amongst the trees. The Bat Queen will never see this coming! You smile to yourself, tightening your hold on your weapon. Not even the commander or lieutenant make sound now, the trees eerily silent save for the hot breath down your neck.
...Oh, horseapples.
"Well, well," a sultry voice purrs with amusement, "what have we here? Did you really think you could trick me? What an ignorant foal you are."
Before you can turn around, you feel a hot, stabbing pain in your neck. The world fades around you as the little bat screams in terror.
You wake up in bed in a cold sweat.
Game over!

You go to the middle of the camp, weapon in hand, and wait. Time stretches on infinitely before you, and even your bat friend seems nervous about this. It chitters in your ear, and just when you turn to comfort them, you hear a chuckle. Dark and low, it comes from the trees, which immediately gets your attention.
She's here. The Bat Queen.
"Well, well. Look what the rats dragged in," the queen laughs, emerging from the brush. Only she's not like any pony you've seen before- she's not like anything you've ever seen before. She's as hideous as she is beautiful, walking on two legs as she approaches the battleground. You can't look away from her, almost hypnotized by the sight. All you can do is clutch your weapon tighter to your chest, trying not to tremble too visibly.
"You're my opponent? You? Oh, taking over these little toys is going to be too easy." She's horrendous. Part of you loves her. Without realizing, there are tears in your eyes. The little bat brushes your neck, chittering what you can only think to be encouragement. She has you in some sort of thrall, terrified and in awe all at once.
"Well. Go on then, O Noble Prince. Take your first strike. It's all you're going to get on me."
You:
A. Wait and let her make the first attack
B. Move in to strike while you can

You stand back from the bat queen, not rising to her bait. For her obvious invitation, it has to be a trap. The two of you stand, silent, and she begins to pace a circular path around you. Not wanting to give her distance, you quickly move the other way. The two of you circle one another, silent and still as the night. Finally, she moves. Her wings unfurl, fast as lightning, and she's moving towards you with death in her eyes. As quickly as you can, you draw your weapon- for Tigeria and Sesshiyasha, that happens to be a sword. You whirl and try to drive the blade into the queen's heart, but it snaps on her skin-- some kind of horrendous armor, you realize too little too late. Dread and horror pool in your stomach, and the last thing you see are the queen's claws digging into your chest.
Game over! Thanks for playing!

Sensing your need for aid, the bat flings itself from your neck and into the queen's path. She stumbles, missing you and crashing to the ground. She isn't down long, however. The queen rises again, even more hateful and furious than she was.
"YOU?!" She screams hatefully, wings flaring. "You're a traitor to our kind! I killed you!"
You get the sneaking suspicion it's not you she's speaking to.
The bat screams angrily in response, and you see it: your opening. Taking up the whip, you give it a good crack, and it strikes true. The end of the chain pierce's the queen's heart, cutting out her furious cry. She stares down to the hole, then up to you, finally silent. Before she can say anything, she bursts into a puff of smoke.
It's over.
You let out a shaky breath, the chain falling from your grip. The little bat flutters in front of you, checking on you, then lowers itself to the ground. Paws don't connect with soil- hooves do. Standing before you is an orange pony with great, leathery wings, and they smile gently at you.
"Thank goodness that's over. Thank you so, so much for your help. I'd intended to see to her myself, but the cold got to me. I'd have been a goner without your help, especially cursed as I was," they explain, fluttering their wings. This... was certainly your bat. You nod mutely, and before you can speak, the commander is coming out of his tent. He draws to a dead stop, in front of the orange pony.
"Y-you majesty!" He speaks, and immediately bows to one knee. The bat laughs, shaking their head.
"No. Stand up, commander. We're here for peace, not titles. What do you say we end this war?"

The politics are lost on you, but you can tell you helped. Somehow. As more soldiers- bats and toys alike- pour in, it's you they bow to now. The savior of both kingdoms, it would seem. As the true bat royal (you learn that queen was, in fact, an usurper) takes their place on the throne, you are offered a place in this kingdom so long as you need it.
If anything, you just want to go home.
Taking a moment, the bat walks you back through the trees. Before you can duck away, they take your hoof, and offer a gentle kiss to it.
"We will always, always be in your debt. If you ever need anything..." they procure something from their cape- a nutcracker. More specifically, it's your nutcracker. Only it's... different, now. It looks rather like the bat, now that you think of it. You look up to see them smiling, and the bat laughs.
"You'll always know how to find us."
And with that, you wake up. You're back in Uncle Drosselmeyer's foyer, your nutcracker tucked gently under arm. What a strange dream you had. You stand up to stretch, and take your nutcracker, and...
...That's funny. You really don't remember it having bat ears.
But. It was all just a dream, in that strange other world.
...Wasn't it?
