Virgil relaxed a little when his ear was rubbed, but it was the thought he might be coming off as an overbearing a** that had him stop with pressing against him. More like other dogs didn’t play well with him. He wouldn’t mind it, honestly, if they didn’t treat him like they wanted him dead as soon as they got a whiff of him. He glanced up to Marcel with a slight tilt of his head, unable to tell if he was aware of the other man’s intentions or not since his expression was hard to read. Either way, it was cute in that ‘ignorance is bliss’ kind of way. The big wolf scoffed to himself when he heard Marcel suggesting that they might cross paths again. He certainly hoped not! Though seeing the look of disappointment that crossed the other guy’s face at being turned down almost made the whole annoyance of this encounter worthwhile. Just a little bit. One last glare was thrown toward the small family as he allowed himself to be lead away.
Once they were out of sight of the small family, he gently pulled free of his grasp and trotted off to a patch of grass before he dropped his upper body with his rump still in the air. He awkwardly twisted over to one side and proceeded to rub his shoulder against the grass though he soon gave in and completely dropped all of his bulk to the ground. Unceremoniously, he started to roll and rub as if every inch of him had an itch. All because he simply didn’t like the lingering scent of the boy on his fur, the feel of phantom tiny arms still around his neck. To him, children could be just as scary as any other supernatural creature out there and babies were far worse. He’d willingly fight every nightmarish thing out there in the world, but stick him in a room with a tiny human and he’d go hide in a corner. Laying on his back, Virgil blinked up at the sky above for a brief moment before he rolled back over onto his stomach and stood, sneezing a bit as he gave a hard shake of his body to get rid of debris clinging to his fur. His gaze settled on Marcel again as he returned to his side and let out a jokingly defeated sigh as if to say that he supposed pretending to be his pet wasn't entirely awful. It was better than any other alternative.

Virgil let out a loud huff of fake offense, his ears dropping back and down to better give off the illusion of being butthurt by his comment. He certainly was not being a drama queen! Perhaps he had gone just a little bit carried away with all of his rolling, but with his sensitive nose, it wasn’t exactly pleasant to have the smell of a stranger on him. It could screw with his mind at times, make him believe that someone was around when it was really just coming from him. Besides, rolling in the grass was simply fun to do. His head cocked all the way to one side in a show of adorable canine bewilderment as soon as Marcel started to speak in his native tongue, the following grin making him feel the slightest bit uneasy over what he could have just said to him. A wry eye was cast back over his body as he looked to make sure he wasn’t dirty while he hoped the man wouldn’t try to dump water on him or something. Wet fur was about as comfortable as wearing layers of soaking wet winter time clothing was. Grass and dirt was a far better smell than soggy wolf. Something that he would like to try and avoid at all costs since his scent remained the same no matter what form he was in. He’d argue, if he could, that taking care of a small problem was hardly being lazy though he wouldn’t make any show of complaining about it when Marcel took off. He watched him for a moment before he set into motion himself, deciding to simply follow behind him for a little while.
Every now and then, he would slow his pace to a walk while he concentrated on paying attention to their surroundings. Ears twitched and nose to the breeze, he searched for anything that could pose even the littlest of threats to them. Allowing himself to grow complacent earlier was how that dumb dog had managed to get the drop on him and Virgil wasn’t willing to let it happen a second time. Running into a bear would just be disastrous. He couldn’t detect anything more than harmless woodland creatures, however, and would easily catch back up to Marcel after each check to keep stride with him with an easy lope. When the trees started to thin out and give way to a meadow dotted with wildflowers, he had to fight to keep primal instinct from taking over. Moving through open spaces always made him feel vulnerable, especially when he was traveling as a wolf. Rather than hunkering down to sneak or running ahead, he settled on sticking closer to Marcel for that sense of protection. ’I’m gettin’ soft.’ The thought had him hanging his head a bit. He might not be a lone wolf anymore, but he didn’t think he was exactly think he was getting soft only after two days from sleeping indoors and letting some kid hug him.

Virgil blinked at him when he mentioned that the field of flowers wasn’t a common sight. Maybe it wasn’t for someone who didn’t normally adventure out into the wilderness, but for him it was. So much so he hadn’t even really noticed the quaint beauty the meadow held until his companion had said something about it. His tail, which was held at an angle just above his spine, slowly wagged back and forth a few times as his ears were touched. He continued to walk beside him as he lead them deeper into the meadow, wondering what Marcel seemed to be so amused about. Hopefully, he didn’t think he had chosen the path just for the sights it had to offer. The flowers were pretty, sure, but he could think of a few better secrets the park held than this. Although, now that he thought about it, he might just be the only one that thought the forgotten and hidden locations were beautiful since most people thought abandoned places were creepy rather than beautiful. With his eyes closing at the scratching, a happy chuff was given in reply to his comment about the place being nice. He’d open them again, though, glancing around while the Hispanic decided to take a moment to relax. A wolven grin spread across his maw as he looked down to him. ’Now who’s th’ one bein’ lazy?’ He gently pressed his nose against his cheek before he moved away from him, sniffing all around while he walked a wide circle around his lover. His movements froze as a particular scent reached him, ears going stiff as he focused his attention toward a part of the distant forest they had just jogged through.
It would be a full minute before whatever it was he detected finally revealed itself, a small family group of deer cautiously making their way out into the open. A quick glance was thrown toward Marcel before he focused back on the group. The big wolf hunkered down until his back was barely hidden by the top of the tall grass just before he went slinking forward like a stalking tiger, making sure to stay downwind of the deer so they wouldn’t notice him. Virgil broke out into a run once he was within a few yards of the herd, instantly causing them panic and take off running themselves. They tried to make it back to the woods, but he managed to cut off their path. It carried on like that for nearly another minute or so, the big bully chasing after them for a bit before he’d race ahead to change their direction as if he were a sheepdog driving livestock instead of a wolf. He might have kept going if the buck hadn’t gotten tired of his s**t and decided to fight rather than flee, earning a yip from the male when it charged at him. Virgil bounded away several feet and turned to look, watching as the herd made their way out of the area. He went trotting back to Marcel with his tongue hanging out of a side of his mouth and flower petals clinging to his dark coat like multihued stars. Mirth could clearly be seen within his gaze as he dropped to the ground, taking a deep breath and letting it out with a satisfied sigh to calm his panting.

All those intimidating teeth would be put on display as his maw japed open with a yawn, his tongue curling toward the roof of his mouth. Snapping his jaws shut after, he blinked at Marcel before grinning. Damn straight he was the toughest wolf!’Well, I did promise t’keep ya safe.’ Yeah, that was how Virgil was going to rationalize it. He’d been protecting him from the vicious, bloodthirsty deer and not chasing them around like an overexcited puppy. A groan escaped from him the moment those hands started to work over his body, causing him to wiggle even closer to the Hispanic. Like hell was he ever going to complain about receiving affection even if did ruin his image of being the badass of the forest. Unable to actually laugh, he only snorted in amusement at the thought of such a hardened man baby talking to anything. Something he wouldn’t believe he was capable of doing until he heard it and, if he ever did, Marcel was right…He would never let him live it down! ’Oh, whoa. Wait.’ When his fingers first started touching his belly, Virgil didn’t know what to think or even do at first. Instinct warned that he should protect his vulnerable underside although he had to admit that it kind of felt nice.
It couldn’t be all that bad since he didn’t get up and run away from him, the brute continuing to lay there rather stiffly until Marcel’s fingers scratched over a spot just beneath his ribcage. His hind legs stretched out and toes spread as he screwed his eyes shut, unsure if he hated or loved the weird tingling sensation spreading along his body. Nope. Damn it, he couldn’t fight it. Whining, he rolled over onto his back to fully expose his stomach with his forepaws tucked against his chest as one hind leg started to kick uselessly at the air the more Marcel scratched and rubbed, and it wouldn’t take long for the second one to start moving as well. ’What in th’ ‘ell are ya doin’ to me?!’This had to be some kind of foul witchcraft to make him lose control of his body this way. Try as he might, he couldn’t make his damn legs stop. Virgil tried to squirm away but only succeeded in squirming onto the human’s lap. He opened his eyes when he felt the top of his head butting into his stomach. Being so big had its advantages, clearly, though this time he would use it in a less violent way. He carefully squirmed and wiggled as he used the Hispanic as a prop to push himself up into an awkward leaning position. Just so he could nuzzle the uninjured side of his neck while whimpering like an attention-starved dog. Virgil wasn’t even aware he was making such a noise or how his tail was thumping against the ground. He should just go toss his dignity in the trash.

Perhaps if he was used to having his stomach touched in any way he would have been able to contain himself, but this was a first time and he didn’t know how to deal. If Marcel ever doubted that the werewolf didn’t trust him, this could serve as proof that he'd given him every ounce of trust he had to give. There were plenty of other ways he had always believed he would rather do to make himself vulnerable than ever expose his tender underside. Yet, here he was and was enjoying the attention even if being in such a position was a little bit scary. He couldn’t pretend to be offended at the compliment that went against his intimidating stature this time around. The Hispanic could call him whatever he wanted to at that moment, and he would continue to stay there like a big kicking lump of fur as long he kept assaulting that sweet spot. His heart swelled even more when he heard his confession, amazed that he had managed to understand what he was trying to convey despite the obvious language barrier.
While Virgil was quite aware of how lucky he’d gotten to have found someone like him, it really hit him just then of how truly fortunate he actually was. So much so, the realization had him gasping ever so faintly as he’d just gotten hit in the face with a brick. Not only did the former soldier accept him for the supernatural beast he was, he also seemed to enjoy spending time with him in this form. He would’ve been fine with the former thing since acceptance was more than he could ever ask for, but knowing that he would still be loved on in either body made him giddy. Suddenly, love didn’t seem enough to quite describe the whole of what he felt for him, but he supposed it would have to do. He lightly licked the juncture where the corner of his jaw met his neck since he couldn’t properly kiss him as a wolf. His legs soon slowed their kicking to a stop as the rest of his body seemed to turn to jello. No doubt he would have fallen over if it wasn’t for him using Marcel for support. Virgil let out a low rumbling murr as he turned his head to tuck his snout underneath the man’s chin in another show of affection while he gently pushed at one of his hands with a forepaw.

A rather cute rump wiggle was given when Virgil felt his paw being grabbed. All that petting had turned him into quite the sappy pup and it was stupid how happy the simple gesture made him. At this time, he was thankful for the limited facial movement he had in his body or else he’d no doubt be grinning like a fool. The male pulled back his head so he could look him in the eye as he spoke and let out a soft whine. He didn’t think it was cheesy at all. It was a sweet thing to hear. Perhaps it was the canine in him that made him feel so freakishly loyal to him, but he didn’t see a reason so to why he shouldn’t be. If there was one person on the face of the earth that deserved such devotion, he was certain that it was Marcel. Sure, he did have a kill count though the werewolf simply believed that to be an ugly fact of war. It was either kill or be killed, and killing was unavoidable if one wanted to survive. A fact of war and life, or at least the latter had been truer back in the day. Virgil was so far gone down the rabbit hole at this point, little mattered to him anymore aside from the man beside him.
He stretched once he was laid down before he adjusted somewhat, resting one forepaw against the other’s side as he snuggled up to him. He debated about shifting but decided against it in the end. Virgil wasn’t exactly a modest beast and had been naked out in the wilderness before, but he figured there was no sense in taking a risk when he really didn’t need to. He could always talk to Marcel and properly love on him later when they were done with their time out in nature. His pale gaze focused up at the clear blue sky overhead until his lids slipped closed. The lycan wasn’t sure exactly how long they laid there together, but the heat from the sun and the comfort of being in the Hispanic’s arms were beginning to lull him to sleep. Carefully, he squirmed out of his embrace and stood. Moving really wasn’t something he wanted to do, but he also didn’t want to fall asleep for a multitude of reasons. That soft woofing sound was made as he looked down to Marcel before turning his head in the direction they had come from to silently ask if he wanted to head back. It wouldn’t bother him if Marcel wanted to rest more or do whatever else would please him. Well, as long as whatever it was kept him awake.

The tip of that pink tongue was stuck out at Marcel for his joke. Clearly, he did not know his fairy tales! Only the best ones had napping in a meadow of wildflowers with a loved one. Virgil shook himself to get rid of the remaining petals stuck to him before he trotted after him to catch up with him. His tail was swayed lazily a few times by way of reply. It might not have turned out to be the exerting run he had planned on, but they had still gotten a decent amount of exercise done. And, more importantly, he had gotten to spend outside away from any sign of civilization with the only person he loved so the werewolf wasn’t going to complain. He made sure to pay attention to their surroundings as they walked together, not letting the hand resting on his head distract him too much from listening and sniffing for any danger. He couldn’t detect anything aside from wildlife that had passed through the area not too long ago, but he didn’t need another reminder as to why it was bad to let his guard drop.
A look of slight annoyance was thrown Marcel’s way for the question since he knew the man knew that he couldn’t talk. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal if the answer was could be given with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. His ears flattened back a bit as he thought over it before he gave a small shake of his head, meaning that the movies weren’t all that accurate. It was the best answer he could give for now. He had met a grand total of two werewolves that could take a hybrid form between wolf and human, and they hadn’t look creatures from horror movies. More like living fursuits the furry community was so keen on wearing with a few obvious differences. He couldn’t say if it was an ability thing or a preference thing for them since he didn’t stick around his own kind for long and hadn’t thought to ask questions at the time. Virgil hadn’t given their forms much thought either outside of meeting them, but now that the subject had been brought up, he found himself pondering over it. Would it be possible to take such a form himself? He guessed there would be no harm in giving it a try sometime. When Marcel wasn’t around, of course. The last thing he wanted to do was cause him to freak out or worry if something went wrong. Once the bridge came into view, moved away from him as he picked up his pace into a trot. As he got closer to the bridge, he started to run and cut off the path into the forest. With little effort on his part, he jumped over the six-foot expanse of the creek to land gracefully on the other side of it just so show off that wolven agility of his. After the little display, he went prancing back to the human with his muzzle slight parted in a toothy grin.
